The last time I stood at your door uncle, you welcomed me with open arms. I know that I am no longer welcome here but I hope that I have at least earned your respect enough for you to be able to listen to what I have to say. Years ago, I lived poorly as did you. Our families worked hard to be able to provide for us. My mother, after having been left by my idiotic father, had to do work in the field to earn enough money to feed, clothe and shelter my siblings and I. She was affected by the loss of our father as much as we were, but hid it for the sake of her children.
Sometimes though, her walls of fortitude would be broken and I would hear her crying in the kitchen when she though we were all asleep. She had a piercing stare, I remember. One time, when I was about 8 years old we were out on the streets selling dried corn when a young man smiled at us. I looked back at him, intrigued, but my mother shot him a dirty look and pulled me away as she was unable to trust men after what our father had done to her. But she always trusted you Pedro. She trusted you enough to send me on a long journey to get to you.
The U.S became a place where I could live a life worth living. You, my uncle, took me under your wing and gave me a home and a job where I was able to live without the constant fear of not having enough. You opened my eyes to the possibilities of the world. And now, you look at me in shame. Sure, you have your reasons. Just as I was starting to make good money to send back to my family, I left your company to start my own. It started out rocky but soon we started making money I never thought was possible. I don’t know what went wrong. We obviously weren’t doing as well as I thought. So, I made the decision for the sake of my company to use the money I had ready to send to my family. It was in vain, the company still collapsed.
Now, looking back, I realise and

Open Mind, Open Life

...life, if they happy with their values and beliefs, and if they are happy with how they view the world. Becoming an open-minded person is a bit more difficult than you think and tough at times because as a toddler we are raised upon beliefs and values of our household and family so we tend to surround ourselves with people who share the same values and beliefs. The challenge of becoming open-minded is the fact that we faced with ideas that differ from our own, and since we have strong views on specific topics it’s hard for someone to stray from those opinions. I strongly agree that believing in your own opinions is a great thing and doesn't mean you have a closed mind but I've noticed that opening the door to your mind and letting new ideas and beliefs in has it benefits. During my seventeen years of living I've noticed seven benefits to becoming open minded which has carved the person that I am today. Number One is letting go of control. By letting go of control of your thoughts you allow yourself to experience ideas, thoughts, art, entertainment, and genres of music. For example, I used to think that hip hop was the greatest genre of music until my friend Peter told me to listen to an indie rock band from Australia called “Last Dinosaurs” and I had doubts and didn't give it much of a chance but I listened to the melody and instruments being played and it completely changed my view on music. Ever since I...

Touching Spirit Bear Character Analysis

...I’ve been called to decide the cast for the movie of Touching Spirit Bear. To do this I’ve watched multiple auditions and had to pick the best ones. Everyone who auditioned gave a great effort but I’ve finally decided who got the lead roles. For the character playing Cole Matthews I’ve chosen a teenager named Bran from the book House On The Gulf . I think Bran and Cole are very much alike. The two guys are sneaky and regretful of their mistakes. Both characters have made mistakes that had a huge impact on their life. But both characters eventually made things right again. For example Cole told Peter, “‘I’ll do anything to help you and make things right’” (Mikaelsen, 235). And since Bran illegally lived in another family’s house, he had to work out a deal and make things right so he wouldn’t end up in jail....

Nothing Really

...Everyone makes mistakes, whether big or small. That’s why no one’s perfect. We all learn from something – by observing, listening, asking. Sometimes, we learn from others’s mistakes. But other times, we find ourselves confronted with the consequences brought about by our own mistakes. Whether done intentionally or unintentionally, mistakes are mistakes. And as we are human beings, we have no power to press rewind and do things over. It’s done, it’s there, we have to deal with it – that’s life. I would like to thank you because : For the new experiences and adventures we gained from traveling For the stories we shared simply because we needed someone to talk to, For the mistakes we made that got us into trouble but made us closer, For the disagreements that helped us accept each other for who we really are, For the laughter and smiles we shared, For the times we helped each other out, For the nights we watched movies or series together, For the pictures we took together… The past will always be a part of our lives we can’t control. It’s done. Whatever happened, happened. Whoever came and stayed, stayed; and the others, well maybe they just weren’t meant to make it to the present. But who knows about the future, right? I’ve realized not too long ago that I’ve been trapping myself in the past, comparing whatever happens to what already happened. And by doing so, I’ve unconsciously been restricting myself of enjoying what I have now. The habit to compare the past...

Narrative of Learning

...On April 7th, 2012, I went to a Detroit Tigers baseball game at Comerica Park with my parents and my two younger brothers, ages 15 and 12. It was the second game of the season for the Tigers, who were playing against the Boston Red Sox, and we were sitting in upper-level seats along the right field foul line. In the fifth inning, Detroit’s third baseman, Miguel Cabrera hit a pitch deep into left-center field that, at first, was ruled an automatic double because it looked as though the ball had rolled under the fence. Cabrera, however, kept running as though it was a homerun until one of his teammates told him that is was only a double. Looking for an explanation, the Tigers’ manager, Jim Leyland, jogged over to the umpire that had made the ruling on the play. After a somewhat lengthy conversation with Leyland, the umpire, C.B. Bucknor, had a brief meeting with the other three umpires, and then they all proceeded to go into the replay room behind home plate in order to review the play. About two minutes later, the umpires emerged from the room and ruled that the play was a homerun, giving Cabrera his second of the game. This was a perfect example of how unpredictable the game of baseball can be. I learned about instant replay in Major League Baseball when it was first used, late in the 2008 season. There had been a lot of discussion about it on local and national baseball telecasts, due to its highly-anticipated arrival in the sport. The baseball community was undecided as a...

Point of View

...I'm sure throughout life's existence many people have made mistakes, it is inevitable to not ever do so. There's been many moments in life where I've stood before an obstacle and didn't get it right the first try. Sometimes you would have to think it through, or seek assistance from others, And sometimes the answers right in front of you, and you've been looking in all the wrong places. Depending on the options you've chosen, determines the outcome it'll bring. One thing you should never forget to do, is if you're aware that you cant handle the situation alone, seek help from another. A person that you feel comfortable in helping you with the situation. As many, I've made the mistake of not reminding myself of seeking the help i needed. so in other words, it was something i wish i had remembered more of , when i was younger. As a kid, the age of 14, in middle school, i thought like every other hot-headed student, with the thought of being the toughest, the strongest, fastest, and smartest. i saw everything as a competition, always thinking of how to be better then someone, leaving out the similarities in which we would've related too, and focusing on how to be different, but in a spiteful way. At the time , i wasn't aware of the many possibilities i would've had if I'd just put my big ego aside and work with others. Filled with foolish pride and immaturity, i put myself in the position of a foot soldier, in other words, a follower. It took many lessons to be...

Case 7-20

...Table of contents Executive summary 3 Introduction 4 Differences between projected and actual income statement 4 Consequences 4 Recommendations 5 Appendix 1 6 Executive summary It has come to my attention that a mistake was made in our projected income statement of this month considering our breakeven point. Therefore I’m made this report to underline the importance of a good projected income statement. I’ve stated the problem analyses and the consequences of this error. Also I’ve placed my recommendations in this report. As you can see in appendix 1, there’s a big difference in our projected income statement and our income statement based on our actual sales. The deviation of our sold products is different than stated in our projected income statement. Instead of the sales deviation of 48% Sinks, 20% Mirrors and 32% Vanities. Our actual sales deviation of this month is 32% Sinks, 40% Mirrors and 28% Vanities. Because there are differences in the contribution margins of the three products, this has lead to a lower total contribution margin than stated in the projected income statement. Nevertheless we’ve reached our sales of $500,000 we didn’t reach our projected operating income of $36,400. Unfortunately we’ve made a operating loss of $8,600. This is due to the fact that our projected income statement was not accurate enough regarding our total contribution margin. Instead of our projected contribution margin of 52% our real total contribution margin is...

Web Page

...include specific tutorials and examples on how you can create a web page step by step. The main one that I used was a site named, Page Tutor which goes over each step on how to create your own page. I enjoyed using this site as my main resource to creating my web page because it gave specific examples as well as pictures revealing how the page will look on the internet with using certain codes. The process with creating my web page was not too difficult. In previous semesters, I’ve taken courses related to Web Development and Flash. They were interesting classes and while working on this project it brought back some of the things I’ve learned from those classes. A few things I had forgotten but overall I had fun while working on this web page. The coding was not too hard to grasp but it reminded me how easily you can make a mistake. Some of the mistakes I stumbled upon were not closing brackets or misspelling some of the coding on my page. This can take some time to realize what mistakes you’ve made which I spent quite some time looking over. This was an exciting and interesting project to work on. Hopefully in the future, I will continue with Web Development since it’s a stimulating...

...The Big Interview Lesson 1 – Job Interview Fundamentals In this lesson, I learned about the many types of interviews and how to approach them all. I’ve done just about every interview listed. With the one-on-one, group, phone and video interviews, I did well on them. I also did well on the panel interview I had 2 years ago. I was afraid but I just treated it like it was a simple one-on-one but made sure I interacted with both interviewers. I have to remember that I’m in the drivers’ seat when it comes to interviewing. I will use this information obtain the goal of going in for the kill and take the job you so rightly deserve and qualify for. Lesson 2 – Job Interview Best Practices and Common Mistakes In Lesson 2, I’ve learned about the best practices, mistakes and what to wear on the interview. Being concise, confident, and interested are must haves on an interview. Staying on the message/topic whilst answering questions will also help you along in the interview process as well. Be prepared, be on time, and always be respectful because first impressions are everything in an interview. Avoid the 3 big mistakes that people are liable to make during an interview: don’t be late, be sure to do research on the company and position for which you have applied and lastly don’t avoid questions. I also learned about answering inappropriate/illegal questions. I never experienced that in an interview but now I know what to look out for and how to handle myself. I will be utilizing...

Personal Narrative: My Stereotypes

Risk Taking in Business

...been taught throughout our lives that those daredevils and rebellious teens were bad, but who’s to say they just weren’t risk takers. Risk taking is something you have to do in order to make a profitable and successful business, just look at some of the most successful businesses out there today they didn’t get there not taking risk. I’ve come to realize with all my research there are good and bad risk and understanding the thin line between the two could mean the difference between a smart business decision and unwise mistake. Taking risk is not something to do lightly it takes calculated reasoning and beneficial risks require careful planning. Bad risk tends to be a product of thoughtlessness. Fortunately, most CEOs and business owners wouldn't have arrived at their current position if they regularly made the latter type of decisions. (Hendricks, 2014) So I wonder what is a good risk? And I found it is the product of assessing needs, identifying areas that need improvement, formulating strategic plans and executing initiatives while anticipating mistakes. It seems all successful business owners must learn the art of taking calculated risks. I’ve come to realize the practice may not come naturally, but it's essential for progress and longevity. So how much risk would I’d be willing to take? Well, I think about the risk I am taking now by taking this class online instead of a classroom. I’m taking a risk that I will be able to manage my time...

Ucf Writing Center Reflection

...26th, 2015 I decided to bring an old paper from community college to the UCF Writing Center. I wanted to bring in an old paper in order to see how much I’ve improved since then, and how I can still improve my writing. The paper I brought was an extra credit assignment, which I honestly did not put much effort towards because it was for my math class. This allowed us to find many aspects of my writing that I could work on. Thanks to my consultation with my amazing consultant Julie, I learned that it’s not incredibly hard to write a good paper, even if I don’t enjoy the topic. I chose this service because it was a service I was already quite familiar with. At my old community college, Eastern Florida State College, the school had a very popular writing center that I was also required to attend by some of my professors. Although both writing centers were very similar, the UCF writing center left me with new tools in order to...

...EWRT 211 Reflective Essay November 25, 2013 Reflective Essay When the semester first began, I was unsure if EWRT 211 was going to be like any other English classes I've taken in the past. I could safely say that, this class was nothing like I've experienced before. For our first assignment, we were told to write a detailed analysis and our understanding of the authors message. I was introduced to citing quotes and writing page numbers and immediately started to make it a habit. The next new idea that was introduced to me was writing concert specific details. For example, in high school I gave very broad examples and rarely gave my nouns a name. I struggled to get used to this new writing style. After writing a couple essays in this class I've learned from my mistakes of not giving enough specific details. Ive tried to improve my writing with better structure and techniques. Therefore, I feel I am prepared for EWRT 1A because I have established to write a structured essay with a strong thesis with specific examples with a common theme. In the first in class essay the writing style had been extremely close too what I had been used too. It wasn't until my second in class essay,"New ways to Defuse Violence", that I learned the importance of structure of the essay. This essay required us to compare and contrast between two different articles and give a detailed analyze of them. This way of writing was foreign to me because no one had ever asked me to do this. Writing...
