...A MORAL RECOVERY PROGRAM: BUILDING A PEOPLE--BUILDING A NATION PATRICIA LICUANAN The events at EDSA in February 1986 not only ousted a dictator, but also demonstrated to the world and to ourselves our great strengths as a people. At EDSA we saw courage, determination and strength of purpose; we saw unity and concern for one another; we saw deep faith in God; and even in the grimmest moments, there was some laughter and humor. We were proud of ourselves at EDSA and we expected great changes after our moment of glory. Today, sometime after, we realize that most of our problems as a nation still remain. We may have ousted a dictator, but that was the easy part. The task of building a nation is so much more difficult. Now, with EDSA only an inspiring memory, we are faced with our weaknesses. Self-interest and disregard for the common good rears its ugly head. We are confronted with our lack of discipline and rigor, our colonial mentality, and our emphasis on porma (form). Despite our great display of people's power, now we are passive once more, expecting our leaders to take all responsibility for solving our many problems. The task of building our nation is an awesome one. There is need for economic recovery. There is need to re-establish democratic institutions and to achieve the goals of peace and genuine social justice. Along with these goals, there is a need as well to build ourselves as a people. There is need to change structures and to change people. Building...

...Corporate and Culture Moral at Work People naturally resist change of any kind, especially when that change affects the way they work. As a result of this resistance to change, any organizational culture change is likely to negatively affect employee morale. Employees will complain and resist this change, asking why it is necessary. In order for your culture change to be accepted by your employees, you must anticipate this reaction and prepare for it. Identifying Decreased Morale Decreased company morale is not always easy to identify. Complaints and grumblings are the most common symptoms of reduced morale, but they are just a few signs that things are not right in your company. Calling in sick, arriving late for work and leaving early are other indicators that morale is decreasing in your company. Mistakes and poor treatment of customers are two other signs that company morale is declining. Your managers and supervisors are on the front line of company morale and you should listen to them during your culture change. Culture Change and Morale Changing your company culture involves several steps and processes. Your first step is to identify what you stand for and state it as simply as possible. For years, General Electric stated, "We bring good things to life." Employees and customers understood what this meant and how to behave because of it. To make your culture change successfully, you must articulate clearly your company's philosophy. Once this is understood, your change...

..." TER 1 Wat Is Morality. I \\·e are discussing nd-sm~ll matter, but how we ought to live. SOCRATES, AS REPORTED BY PLATO IN THE REPUBliC (CA. 390 B.C.) 1.1. The Problem of Definition Moral philosophy is the attempt to achieve a systematic under standing of the nature of morality and what it requires of us in Socrates's words, of "how we ought to live,r and why. :It would be helpful, therefore, if we could begin with a simple, uncon !roversial defiuition of what lIJ,Qrality is. But that tums out to be impossible. There are many rival theories, each expounding a different conception of what it means to live morally, and any definition that goes beyoud Socrates's simple formulation is bound to offend one or another of them. This should make us cautious, but it need not paralyze us. In this chapter I will describe what I call the "minimum con ception" of morality. As the name suggests, the minimum con ception is a core that every moral theory should accept, at least as a starting point. We will begin by examining some recent moral controversies. The features of the minimum conception will emerge from our consideration of these examples. 1.2. ...1. The Food and Drug Administration uses a pre-manufacturing screening program for determining the marketability of a new child related product, whereas, the Puerto Rico Department of Consumers Affairs (DACO) relies on recall action for similar products. Can you think of any rationale other than historical accident for the difference in regulatory approaches between these two agencies, the federal and the local?

...official. It is what is expected of these officials to perform the highest level of integrity in their everyday work. Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. In the Code of Conduct: Article 2: it's states, " In the performance of their duty, law enforcement officials shall respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human rights of all persons." With that being said; I can't fathom why so many law enforcement officials get away with so much brutality daily. Everyone has morals and ethics, no matter if they are good or bad, you still have them. Law enforcement officials bit only are trained to do the right things, step by step in the line of duty, but whether theory choose to follow their training is entirely up to then. Ramarley Graham, an 18 year old from the Bronx, NY, was shot and killed by a police officer in 2012. Graham was in his grandmothers bathroom at her home, reportedly flushing marijuana down the toilet. Officer Richard Haste, chased Graham into the house even though the officer didn't have a warrant. Graham was unarmed when Haste shot and killed him. A grand jury charged the officer with manslaughter. However, a judge later the indictment out, which allowed Haste to get away with murder. Yes, murder! This officers ethics, morals and integrity were all wrong on every level of his actions in this case. Haste didn't think before he acted.

...Moral codes are reviewed from occasionally; however, they are of top priority for a number of causes in companies. Companies have to ensure they go after the top tier of moral principles in all of their actions. Moral principles are also significant with respect to business investigation. Throughout this paper, the discourse shall be lodged with regard to a case in which corrupt business analysis methods were executed by the company. My intent is to talk about this case and a range of main clauses concerning this particular case. Presently, in this peculiar case, some moral subjects are to be taken into reflection. In terms of immoral investigation performance, this particular company was certainly engrossed in immoral research performance. The company was a pharmaceutical corporation that worked together with a professor who beforehand supplied the required research linked to the medication of flu (Dominick & Wimmer, 2010). Throughout the course of their accord, he was inquired to remain the research information secret and not to unveil the same to any other party. The corporation which was working on his investigation work was planning to hold back the study work. Consequently, it was judged to be immoral on the side of the pharmaceutical corporation. The pharmaceutical corporation desired to make sure that it collected a high bulk of earnings, in spite of whether the investigation work was complete at the price of collective interests. The upset shareholding groups...

...not universal since they only represent the view point of a few, the minority, majority or imposition of a dictator (Baghramian, 2004). When conceptualized within the context of morality it impinges on the framework that truth is applicable only as it pertains to specific guidelines and adaptations. Hence, if morality then becomes as issue in determining truth; it is sieving intentions to decipher purity and whether they are based on justice or outcomes that are beneficial to all. Therefore, this section of my presentation will focus on Lenn Goodman’s (2010) ‘Some Moral Minima:’ A Perspective. Also, a discussion on whether the conceptual framework advanced by this author challenges relativism will be embraced as well as a personal analysis of the themes. Lenn Goodman- ‘Some Moral Minima:’ A Perspective Lenn Goodman (2010) as any social scientist has to justify the morals of society. To say otherwise is to be deemed anti- social and immoral from the point of view of the ruling politic. Hence, his views of ‘some things are wrong’ well deserve agreement, especially, when it appears to be hurting the individual making the judgment (Goodman,...

...We all know when we have a good supervisor, but it can be quite difficult to actually state what makes a good supervisor good. Does it have to do with their personality, their insight, intelligence, or their personal beliefs, morals and values? Is it a mix of all these things, and do certain characteristics apply more than others? The first thing we should appreciate is that there are a huge amount of traits that need to be considered. Over the duration of the paper I will be focusing on a few select traits which I believe to be the most important in regards to being a good supervisor. Firstly, a good supervisor must be a good coach. For a supervisor to be successful, it is imperative that they have the qualities that we attribute to any normal coach. This is because a coach knows how important it is to coach their team, or in this case, employees. Successful coaching means working together with your employees to create and modify action plans and objectives. Supervisors must know how to delegate tasks between individuals, and give all the support and guidance that may be needed. On the topic of individuals, a good supervisor must understand that everybody is different, and to be mindful of this fact when dealing with his or her team members. Secondly, a good supervisor must have a positive outlook and be a positive thinker. He or she will think how problems can be solved, while maintaining an air of friendliness, so that they remain approachable, and their employees aren’t...

...Philosophy 484 Professor Neiman 3/22/12 “Selling Starbucks in the Forbidden City” Ever since the Starbucks retail outlet has opened in the “Forbidden City” of Beijing, China, there has been a huge controversy over whether this store deserves to be in this sacred area of China’s history. I believe that Starbucks has a moral obligation to operate a retail store in the “Forbidden City.” The first objection from some Chinese citizens is that Starbucks is highly considered an American brand, and that American commerce is destroying Chinese culture that they claim goes back 5000 years. In some cases, people may believe that the Chinese have the cultural right to maintain their culture in places of great history, which would definitely apply to the Forbidden city Museum. This claim against Starbucks contradicts this statement somewhat since there are already thousands of stores in the museum. If the Chinese would have wanted to keep the Forbidden City sacred, you would think that they would have not allowed any stores in the area to keep it original so everyone could see the real history behind the place. Some may counter by saying that Chinese stores should only be allowed simply because it is already part of the Chinese Culture. In the case, it states that there are shops that sell American products, such as coke, cookies, and other merchandise. Wouldn’t this be considered American products and upset some Chinese citizens since it is considered American and not part...
