Post traumatic stress disorder or commonly known as PTSD is a psychiatric disorder which commonly falls in military psychology which comes under the subfields of psychology. Posttraumatic stress disorder occurs after you have been gone through a trauma. Trauma is a shock, it can be a horrible scary thing which you see or that happens to you. It can be Experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as military combat, natural disasters, terrorist incidents, paranormal visions, or physical or sexual assault in adult or childhood. These life changing situations may lead to this horrible psychiatric Disorder. The interesting fact here is most survivors of these traumas return to their normal lives with the time but some will carry the flashbacks, memories which cause side reactions and even their lives will be miserable with the time these are the people who develop PTSD.
Some traumatic events that can trigger PTSD

1) Traumatic experiences following military combat

2) violent personal assaults such as sexual assault, physical attacks

3) torture

4) terrorist attacks

5) severe road accidents

6) being diagnosed with a life-threatening illness such as cancer

7) observing the serious injury or unnatural death of another person due to violent assault, accident, war, or disaster

8) unexpectedly witnessing a dead body or body parts

9) exposure to natural disasters such as earth quakes, Tsunamis

Re-experiencing symptom It is the symptom that soldier is reliving the traumatic event which happened. They can relive the traumatic event in so many ways such that these memories can come back when not expected and also the shocking events can be aroused by a traumatic reminder such as combat soldier hears sound of a motar, artillery fire but actually when it is the sound of fire crackers. Another example is that when a soldier involves in sexual assault or rape if he sees a news report of a recent sexual assault soldier can be easily is a victim of PTSD. Sometimes these events can be so real that they actually sees they are happening again in the form of flashbacks which results growing of ultimate horror, fear and afraid among the soldier.
Avoidance and Numbing Symptoms
It is that the effort done by the soldiers in order to erase the memory of the traumatic event. Usually the victims who have the avoidance symptoms try hard to get away from the places like warzones, firing rangers etc...And also they try to avoid sights, sounds, smells, or people that are reminders of the traumatic event. For example a soldier who lives with this symptom may afraid in watching war movies and he or she may be scared to use a weapon which is their protector in wartime. As well they can be emotionally numb. They will not enjoy the life thinking that their life will be a short one and also they will not try to improve or build their career.
Arousal Symptom
It is simply that soldiers who are suffering from PTSD couldn’t sleep well, difficulty in concentration and also they may be constantly being on the lookout for signs of danger.

Estimates of PTSD from the Gulf War are as high as 10%. Estimates from the war in Afghanistan are between 6 and 11%. Current estimates of PTSD in military personnel who served in Iraq range from 12% to 20%.
