...The World Is Flat Flattener Information Technology Essay The World Is Flat is an international bestselling book by Thomas Friedman that analyzes globalization, primarily in the early 21st century. The title is a metaphor for viewing the world as a level playing field in terms of commerce, where all competitors have an equal opportunity. Globalization became more prominent during the last decades. Friedman argues that globalization made the world smaller and flatter, allowing all countries to take chance of the available opportunities equally. As Friedman describes in “The World is Flat” there are three eras of globalization and ten flatteners which made the world smaller, making it easier to communicate and share our knowledge. This paper deals with the flattener number 2 i.e.; “When the NetScape went Public” and associated developments after 2003 till date. Background Thomas Lauren Friedman is an American journalist, columnist and author and has won the Pulitzer Prize three times. In his famous book “The World is Flat” he identifies three eras of globalization. The first era, called "Globalization 1.0",between the years 1492, when Columbus set out to discover a new trade route to the New World, and 1800, made the world fall in size from large to medium. During this period, the strength of a country was based on the number of horsepower or the number of steam engines owned, compared with other countries. The second period - "Globalization 2.0", between the years 1800 and...

...Facebook, a hub of 100,000 business pages, rolled out video calling for messenger on 27 April 2015.With this added feature facebook aims to connect people all over the world face to face no matter what internet connection or cell phones they have. Skype, Google hangouts and many others offer the same feature of video calling but what facebook offers additional to its user’s is “video stabilization”. The product head of messenger Stan Chudnovsky says “the developers of facebook focused on making video calls work well even on relatively low-bandwidth cell networks. In a demonstration, the quality of call was even good inside the building where we had only two connectivity bars on LTE.” Video calling will definitely help facebook messenger gain considerable momentum because the product now has more than 600 million active monthly users and obviously the number is increasing day by day. Although facebook has no intention of earning from these calls but this added feature builds up its “facebook for work service” image. This user friendly feature is available cross-platform so that android users can chat up with their IOS friends. * HOW TO START A CALL? From the product usage point there is nothing much that needs to be explained. You simply tap the video icon and start a call. If your friend is not currently available for a video chat, the video button will turn gray indicating “{name} is currently unavailable”. * CAN I USE MESSENGER AND VIDEO CHAT AT THE SAME TIME? You...

...While still a little confused in what is being said, I feel like the power law may connect to Jefferson’s statement of not knowing because the power law in and of itself cannot be determined until plotted out. Unlike other graphs, the power law creates graphs that can have any number of outcomes with skewed results. The quote in the book, “Focus on what you understand and can explain; save what you don’t and can’t for your next book, after you’ve figured it out,” is actually a really good quote. Power law graphs, from what I understand anyway, take what is known about the internet and with the graph it’s able to figure out what it doesn’t know; just as Notes is Jefferson’s book on what he does know as well as what he doesn’t know. At least, that’s what I got from it. Question: Why does Internet Explorer run so much slower than Chrome or Firefox? What I think: Because it has to transfer more data to a server that is way too far out of date. What is Acid3? (Found this while looking up the answer) Apparently it tests just how fast and good a browser works. The better the web, the more colorful rectangles you get. I feel like I know what each of the protocols mentioned in chapter seven are, but I’m not exactly quite sure what they do. It’s like, I understand the general basis of the protocol, but I never bothered to understand what it is that they...

...Most professions have an ethical guideline that most will follow and adhere too, some have more responsibility than others, the medical industry for example has a very crucial ethical standing to go with the line of work, such as patient confidentiality (2009), but that isn’t to say that ethics in other lines of work aren’t as relevant as others. The line for what is ethically right and wrong in the design/development industry can be a little blurred at times (2007), for example graffiti could be looked at by some as offensive, whereas others may see it as creative freedom. This can cause problems for designers who have to take an extra responsibility to make sure their work is ethically correct. Back in 1995 when web browsers were fairly new there had not been much thought and consideration put in to ethics related to browsers (2011), this was partly due to there a relatively small amount of the population using the internet at the time, so not every issue had been discovered or addressed. As browsers progressed ethical problems arose such as online security and what details a browser should and shouldn’t save, issues which needed addressing immediately, such as cookie law, advertisements and data tracking. Chrome is a relatively new web browser, launched in 2008 by Google. Being a new browser means any ethical issues previously found in browsers, such as how information entered by a user can be stored and how it is allowed to be used, could instantly be implemented...

...10 Computer Threats You Didn't Know About 1. Fake Tech-Support Calls You might get an unsolicited phone call from a tech-support representative claiming to be from Microsoft or another big-name IT corporation. But the caller won't be who he claims to be. After warning you that "suspicious activity" has been detected on your computer, he'll offer to help once you give him the personal information he requires to get his job done. That job isn't fixing your computer. In fact, he's really just after your personal information. If you receive a call like this, hang up, call the company the bogus technician claimed to be from, and report the incident to a legitimate representative. If there really is a problem, they'll be able to tell you; if not, you just thwarted a data thief. 2. DNS Redirection Internet service providers (ISPs) such as Time Warner Cable and Optimum Online claim they're trying to help with DNS redirection, but the reality seems to come down to money. Domain Name System (DNS) redirection overrides your browser's normal behavior when you can't reach a webpage. Instead of displaying the normal 404 "File Not Found" error, the ISP sends you to a page of the ISP's choosing usually a page full of paid advertising and links. Innocent though that practice may be, computer viruses can do the same thing, redirecting your browser to a hostile page the first time you misspell a domain. With ISPs, you can opt out of their DNS redirection (you'll find links below all the ads);...

...The three browsers that I would be speaking of are Mozilla Firefox , Google Chrome and Opera. These three browsers are the main browsers on the market at the present point in time they are all used world wide and are used by millions each between themselves as individual browsers. They are all supportive of cross platform use Windows Os , Mac Os and Linux Os and can also be used on portable devices such as tablets and cell phones. Opera being the older of the three has been around for quite some time in fact since 1994 when it was started as a research project at Telenor a Norwegian telecommunications company. In 1995, the project branched out into a separate company named Opera Software ASA, and launched a version in 1996.Opera has made many upgrades since then, and introduced notable features such as Speed Dial. The Opera browser was named MultiTorg up until version 2.0 and was not available to the public. Opera was known for its multiple document interface (MDI) and 'hotlist' (sidebar), which made browsing several pages at once much easier as with the other 2 browsers Mozilla and Chrome In February 2013, Opera Software announced that their proclaimed rendering engine, Presto, would be phased out in favour of WebKit which is carried also by Mozilla and Chrome.[4] Opera 15 saw the browser being fully rewritten, with this and subsequent releases being based on Blink and Chromium Os. Even with as many features carried Opera browser is recommended for slower and earlier...

...up the browser all of the pertinent pages are immediately available for me to access. Overall, Chrome has been a great browser with only minor issues. At work I use Internet Explorer. I have found no issues with this browser and believe the only reason I don’t use it personally is for a change of scenery. Explorer seems to offer all of the same functions that Chrome has as well as the occasional crash. Because the Air Force remains loyal to Microsoft, the one plus to Explorer is that it is the only browser that will operate all of the online applications that the Air Force requires we use. Other than this minor detail, I have found no difference in the functionality. Another browser that I’ve been able to experiment with is Mozilla Firefox. This browser seems very similar to Explorer. The functionality is about the same but as stated before, it doesn’t allow complete uninhibited access to all of the Air Force applications that are necessary to function on a daily basis. I believe this is due to a security issue for some of the applications. Because this is a browser that is available on government...

...FAQs Answers to frequently asked questions – FAQs SIX COMMON CAUSES OF CONFUSION… PLEASE READ! 1. SCM Globe runs best under two browsers – Chrome and Safari. It will also run under Firefox, but sometimes it runs slowly under Firefox. And it DOES NOT run under Microsoft Internet Explorer. You can download a free copy of the Chrome or Firefox browsers by going to the websites of those browser makers. If Microsoft is your regular browser, Chrome and Firefox co-exist well with Microsoft. You can use Chrome or Firefox when working with SCM Globe. And you can return to the Microsoft browser for other tasks. One of those features is triggered when you download simulation results from SCM Globe to your PC. In the Firefox browser when you click on the “Export Results to Excel” button it will cause Firefox to open a dialog box. The dialog box will ask “What should Firefox do with this file?” There are two options: 1) Open with; or 2) Save File. Select “Save File”. The simulation data will then download as a data file to your PC in whatever folder you use for downloading from the Internet. The file will be something called an “octet-stream” instead of a .csv file. . Unlike a .csv file, you cannot open this file unless you open it from within your spreadsheet application. So open up your spreadsheet application (MS Excel, Apple Numbers, Google Sheets, etc.) and then open the simulation data file that you just downloaded. It will open correctly inside your spreadsheet application. ...
