Battle For My Body

...Assimilation in the Loss of Identity: Resisting migratory/alien borderlines Every day people battle themselves over the internal and external conflicts of their lives. In the case of Richard Rhodes, the author of, “Battle for My Body” it's both, an internal battle over his individuality, and battling his greatest enemy. Rhodes’s mother died when he was every young, and his father had to make hard choices for his four boys. He shipped the two eldest sons to family relatives while he kept the two youngest, including Rhodes, and they traveled from boarding home to boarding home. His father met a woman named Anne in a desperate attempt to create a stable household. From that day forth the war had started. His new stepmother beat,...

My Body My Temple

...Sonya Dakers Eng215 Strayer University Healths disparities in the African American community are nearly double that of any other ethnic group in South Carolina. The reasons may be lack of health care availability or maybe the lack of knowledge. Many African Americans have the mindset that what we do not know will not harm us, but what we do not know will kill us. It is important to realize that the need for prevention is great. Breast and Prostate Cancer screening programs, educational programs that show the effects of second hand smoke on our community and the importance of nutrition are desperately needed. This paper will argue the reasons why more African American faith based organizations should become involved in the health and well-being of their participants. The intended audience is Pastors, Bishops, Deacons, and congregations’ in general. Some believe that God made us in His image so we should not only focus on the spiritual aspect of worship but also on the physical aspects as well. A Pastor once said that an unhealthy member cannot focus on tithing or on God’s business because they are focusing on their own agenda. The African American faith based community must come together to eliminate health disparities not only to help their congregations to focus on the spiritual, but to become better people in an ever growing global economy. Recent studies show the effects of dieases on the general population...

My Body Is Ready

...A wall of text is something that is frowned upon in most, actually virtually all Internet societies, including forums, chat boards, and Uncyclopedia. You should not make walls of text because it can get you banned anywhere unless it is a place that encourages walls of text. I highly doubt any place does support something so irritating and annoying, but anything can exist, but not really because unless you are in heaven then that can happen. But no one actually knows that was just a hypothesis, a lame one that is. Actually not really lame. You can create a wall of text supporting site, but you would be hated if you do that, so do not. But you can if you like, but I discourage that. Now on to the actual information of walls of texts. The wall of text was invented when the Internet was invented, but actually it was slow at that time. So whenever it became fast. But there would need to be some free or not free community for people, and that community would be able to have walls of text. But that community probably wouldn't have actually invented the wall of text. So basically, no one except God and Al Gore knows when or where or how the wall of text existed/was invented. Noobs probably invented, but probably not. Who knows. Walls of texts are usually filled with a lot of useless information and junk. Information and junk can be the same, but only if the information is junk or the junk is information. But who cares. The information/junk inside a wall of text are usually related to...

Personal Narrative: My Body

...As I sat in the brightly lit kitchen doing my homework, I suddenly realized that someone was intently watching me through the nearby window. All I could see at first was the body. The body was muscular and tense. I couldn't tell what gender they were, maybe male. They were really tall though, maybe 6´11 or 7´. It was Caucasian and it had a very rough skin. The nose was big and bulbous, like it had been punched and the nose became swollen. Most of the sharp, gleaming teeth were missing, the ones that remained were battered and covered in a weird sludge. The ooze had started to drip through the huge cracks in between its teeth. It started to drip down the face and onto the clothing. I started to tense up, feeling something bad is going to happen....

The Plot

...[pic] Body, Mind and Death Michael Lacewing Setting the scene Many people think of the afterlife as an existence without their bodies – just their minds, somehow. But there has always been a strong traditional of bodily resurrection; and it is becoming increasingly popular in philosophy of religion. Theories of the resurrection of the body are theories about whether I survive the death of my body in any way. It is not enough that my body is resurrected – I need to be resurrected, to continue existing as my body. Theories of the resurrection of the body, then, usually presuppose two further philosophical theories: materialism and a particular theory of personal identity. Materialism Materialism is the theory that the only substance is matter. A substance is something that can exist independently of anything else. Materialism denies that we have souls that can exist independently of our bodies. And so, if there is life after death, we must exist as material objects, as bodies. Because matter is the only substance, everything that exists must exist as a material object. And all properties, e.g. having a mind, must be properties of something that is material. Two theories of personal identity Even if I can only exist if I have a body, this doesn’t mean that I can only exist in this body. Just as a piece of computer software can be copied from one computer to another, perhaps I can exist in different bodies. On this theory, what makes me me is not what body...

Mr.Satyvadi tried to move his right hand towards his service revolver by the sight of the 4 MLA’s. However, all my clients were completely unarmed and due to the earlier events the same day, which had also been brought to the notice of the speaker Mr.Goga Bhai and the other MLA’s were already under threat because of the gestures made by the defendant earlier that day. Later when they saw Mr. Satyavadi outside the visitors’ gallery they felt threatened by the threatening gesture of Mr.Satyavadi’s, as he moved his hand towards his service revolver .In an act of Private defense my clients caught hold of Mr. Satyavadi and beat him up, since there was no immediate help from any security personal’s would be possible within the given short time frame. Warrior

...Warrior The tears of my youth have stopped flowing from absorbing the injustice, inflicted by Godly persons of cruel and wicked devils, who have extracted me from the womb of my community, cutting off my mother tongue, forcible compliance to their way of life and killing my spirit, my people, my community and my nation. Severely depressed, I painfully walk with permanent scars that are deeply saturated within my soul and I can no longer speak from my heart as I continue my life’s journey looking, hoping and searching for the end of the trail, beaten, broken, burdened and buried in despair. Helpless and unable to cope with the weight of atrocities gushing from the subtle but deadly waves of genocide that will not subside from all levels of governments along with the courts of the dominion that are manipulating, diminishing and imposing changes that disrupts the well being of our communities. My physical, mental, emotional and spiritual being is extremely out of balance where healing can only come from within and I must rise above the injuries of yesterday otherwise I will be the vessel of tomorrow’s generations that may lead to the fatality of a people. I am a warrior gravely wounded from the incarceration of an Indian Residential School and the genocides, but it is time that my resilience will abrogate the usurping of my people’s rights, liberties and freedoms upon the lands and resources we own, enjoy, use and occupy. I must heal myself by picking up the multiple years of baggage...

None of These Diseases

...also in recent centuries. In May 1847 Vienna, Austria was the leading medical center of the world. One out of six pregnant women die of labor fever on the delivery table. No one knew the mode of transmission of this disease except a doctor by the name of Ignaz Semmelweis. In the 1800s, doctors and nurses did not wash their hands when transferring from the morgue to the delivery room. After submerging their hands in pus and blood during an autopsy, the nurses and doctors would go straight to the delivery rooms without washing their hands. If people just followed the Bible’s principals, the deaths of these women would have been avoided. Numbers 19:11 states, “He that toucheth the dead body of any man shall be unclean seven days.” The section of physical wholeness explains how people destroy their bodies by false understanding...

Tragedy at Lumba S Bend

...We only came to know of it when we are having our mess. Possibly it was either Demetrio’s gang or Pito’s gang that had perished, but as yet we could not be certain. After the mess we fell to work again, but many of those who were personally acquainted with men of Demetrio’s or Pito’s gang could not work very well. I myself was a great friend of Demetrio, and I could not keep my thoughts away from him. When my shift came, I crawled out of the hole and found that several of my friends had already volunteered to dig out the bodies. As soon as we entered the village, we were met by a number of excited women and children. They told us that only one of Demetrio’s men had escaped death, and even he was in a very serious condition. He had been taken to the hospital….So it was really true that Demetrio had died. We passed by the hut where we boarded, and I felt a pang. I could only stare vacantly at the old woman who was looking out of the window. She was our occasional washer woman, and now she had brought a clean suit to the hut so that by the time Demetrio’s body was found we could easily change his clothes. My companions saw her also, but not one of us broke the silence. Instead we hurried to the shop where the company kept it tools, and asked for implements. There were already a number of men excavating the mountain side, and they were working with furious haste. But as there was still a know what to do, for...

Dana Jennings's Essay 'Whose Body Is This?'

...discusses the significance and the stories behind all of the scars on his body and how he sees them as “personal runes and conversation starters” (143). While in contrast, Katherine Haines’s essay “Whose Body Is This?” talks about how society holds these unrealistic expectations for how women should be skinny and basically have the perfect body all the time. And surprisingly enough to her, women are actually trying to achieve and maintain these expectations. One of Dana Jennings’s main point that he continually reiterated throughout his entire essay was that our scars tell our stories. We shouldn’t be afraid or embarrassed of them, but rather embrace them because...

Healing

...Smith Module 1: Assignments Healing Hospital: A Daring Paradigm HLT- 302 Spirituality and Christian Values in Healing Care and Wellness Sunshine Weeks Eric Chapman, founding president and chief executive officer of the Baptist Healing Trust in Nashville, Tennessee, envisioned a healing hospital that would cover not only the physical aspects of healing but the emotional and spiritual components (ericchapman.com, n.d.).  My work will describe the healing hospital paradigm and how spirituality influences this paradigm. In addition, barriers to the Healing Hospital paradigm will be discussed along with Biblical scripture that supports compassion in the health care system. The healing hospital paradigm it focuses on the removal of stress and other health risks in the hospital environment for both patients and visitors. . The healing hospital paradigm it involves in healing the whole client (Young & Koopsen, 2006, p. 4) instead of just curing the disease. This emerges from the paradigm’s focuses on healing beyond the body physical: it aims to enhance the overall well being by addressing the patient’s and their families’ cognitive, emotional and spiritual concerns (Milstein, 2005). A healing hospital goes beyond windows, walls, and mortar. Its strong culture of love and caring is what sets it apart from traditional hospitals (Chapman, 2010, p.15)... The concept is to supporting a strong culture of caring for their patients and caregivers. Healing Hospitals...

Rose of Death

...Emily Grierson, The main character, is a strange lady. She is very withdrawn from society and definitely shows signs of mental illness even though the town seems to deny it. The fact that Miss Emily had a mental illness that was brought on by her seclusion from society and her neediness for a father figure may be why she never left the house and tried to keep her father’s body with her. I believe that Miss Emily may have murdered Homer because he was not the “marrying kind” and it was too much for her disordered mind to take. In this essay I will show the theme of the death and dust that hangs and surrounds Emily, Her character having a mental illness and The surrounding questions to Homer’s disappearance. Emily lets death hang over her. She pretends to deny death itself. She has a strange affiliation with the dead bodies of the men she loved. She shows this Necrophilia behavior when her father died, “She told them that her father was not dead. She did that for three days, with the ministers calling on her, and doctors, trying to persuade her to let them dispose of the body (289).” She gave up her father’s body after the community kept pestering her to let them dispose of it properly. She let them but didn’t want them to. The dust also hangs over in this short story. With it in Miss Emily’s house it’s like a protective seal from outside barriers and keeps things in a state of misuse and decay. When the alderman came to Emily’s house to discuss the tax payment he thought, “It...

The Release

...Release Every time I close my eyes I see those faces, their faces. Twisted with pain, eye’s begging, mouths open, yet no words coming out. Their expressions were pleading for mercy. Their eyes blacked and their faces darkened as their bodies went limp and fell to the floor. I watched my mother, father, and brother’s horrible murders. They were shown no mercy. When they finished with my brother they turned to me. I was prepared to die. Only death didn’t come. Instead, they tied me to a chair in the corner, deciding fifteen was too young to die. I sat there for thirty hours, staring at the lifeless bodies of my family, to horrified to scream for help, to scared to breathe, ready to wake up from this nightmare like reality. It was raining when the police escorted me out of my house, and into the police car. I couldn’t feel the rain hit me, I couldn’t feel anything. The raindrops hit the window, streaming down the window. I don’t know how long I sat there, time no-longer mattered. Nothing mattered anymore. I was alone. I watched police officers carry three body bags out of my house. The sight made me cringe. My face felt wet, I reached up and discovered I was crying. Before I knew it I was crying so hard I couldn’t stop, my body was heaving up and down so ferociously I thought it might actually kill me. Someone opened the car door, and I fell to the ground. I started gagging from crying so hard, my hair was getting wet and clinging to my face, but I hardly noticed. Mustering...

So Mush Water so Close to Home

...So Much Water So Close To Home I couldn’t find my book, so I read it on the internet All human beings have needs. The most basic ones are the natural, physical conditions required to stay alive. However there are other needs that are just as important to make the human mind work properly. Love and care are concepts deeply essential to the life of any person. If these psychological needs are not fulfilled throughout a persons lifetime it can result in different sorts of mental distortions. The short story “So Much Water So Close To Home” is written by the American minimalist Raymond Carver and was first published in 1974. The action takes place in the town of Pasco and by the Naches River in the western state of Washington. Clair and Stuart are living together in a steady seeming marriage. Their life together with their son Dean passes regularly until Stuart and his three friends during their yearly fishing trip to the Naches River find the dead body of a young girl in the river. The conflict that arises takes their relationship out on a side track and reveals that their mutual communication is not sufficient to cope with anything out of the ordinary. Stuart is introvert, does not want to talk about the dead girl and avoids Clair’s attempts to make contact: “He chews, arms on the table, and stares at something across the room. He looks at me and looks away.” (p. 1 lines 2-3). When the men found the girl floating in the river they did nothing for the first couple...
