...English 118 October 7, 2012 Abortion- Pro Choice Abortion has always been a controversial subject among our society. Whether we are involved directly or indirectly, whether we are for it or against it; it is nearly impossible to find someone who doesn’t have an opinion about abortion. Since 1973 abortion has been an important issue within the United States. 1973 marks the year that the famous Rowe versus Wade case was decided before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ruled that abortion be legal and available to all women. Legal abortions can be performed up to 24 weeks according to prochoice.org after twenty-four weeks most doctors or clinics will not perform the procedure unless keeping the baby presents a medical risk to the mother. I believe that every person is entitled to his or her own opinions, beliefs, thoughts, and rights. Denying women the right to choose abortion in the early stages of fetal development is denying her rights as a U.S. citizen and is also discrimination against her person. The moral question has always been whether or not it should be a woman’s decision to get an abortion. The other side of that question is whether the government should have control over a woman’s body and forbid her to get an abortion. Pro-life supporters believe that abortion is wrong because it involves the death of a human being on the other hand Pro-choice believes in woman’s right to choose. I am certain that abortion is a personal choice, and this freedom should be protected...

...ABORTION PRO CHOICE OR PRO LIFE April 11, 2013 PROFESSOR DANIEL HAYNES PHI 103 INFORMAL LOGIC Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy and expulsion of fetus from the uterus resulting in or cause by death of the embryo. The debate over the legal and ethical viability of abortion has been complicated by the lack of consensus in defining whether the developing embryo can be equated as human life. Many people are constantly debating whether or not abortion should be allowed or not. I believe in Pro Choice which believes that woman should have the right to decide if she wants to abort a baby or not. In this paper, I will look at abortions critically and express why abortion should be legal and be left us to a woman to decide. The goal is to point out reason why one might choose abortion. While one is Pro-Choice in the case of abortion, and feels that is should be legal and the choice of a woman. Upon reading the statement on what is pro-choice and how and when abortion is legalized. I will go over why I feel that abortions should be legal. Unwanted pregnancies can be very stressful for woman. Whether or not the woman has the right to have an abortion or not is a controversial subject. Prolife members believe that abortions are seriously wrong and killing a fetus is killing a person. However, woman should have the right to have an abortion for several reasons. Woman should have the right to make decision for their own bodies. Woman should be able to have an...

...Twenty-one percent of all U.S. pregnancies (excluding miscarriages) end in abortion. There are many people who are for abortion and many who are against it. Although some may believe that abortion is the solution for them, it shouldn’t even be considered a solution because it is essentially murder. There are only special cases in which abortion should be considered and that is if there is a health risk for the mother or the child. Just because technology made it accessible doesn’t mean it’s ethical. In fact it’s extremely unethical and should only be allowed in special cases. In my opinion, when anyone has sex they are consenting to all the risks that come with it, one of them being pregnancy. When a woman gets pregnant, whether it’s intentionally...

...between supporters (pro-choice) and opposers (pro-life) of legalized abortions is at its peak. Being a member of the pro-choice movement has led me to question why my opposing American Citizens call themselves “pro-lifers” instead of “anti-abortionists”. The ethical issue of the abortion controversy has spiked many questions involving pro-lifer’s opinions on “supporting life”, when they oppose Universal Healthcare, are all for the cruel and unusual inflictions of the Death Penalty, and support the mental and physical wrath of prisoner of war abuse. This has caused us to ask ourselves, at what point...

...One side of the argument is Pro-Choice, this is the side that is for abortion. This side believes each woman should have the choice to do what they want with their body, this thought process is what spurned the Roe vs. Wade case. Pro-Choice focuses strictly on the women who is pregnant. The idea that it is their body is a valid point, the idea that not all pregnancies are planned or even wanted is another point that the Pro-Choice movement will argue to defend their side of this abortion debate. Pro-Choice feels that the women’s civil rights are being violated by not having the choice to decide for themselves. Pro-Life side, one that feels that every life is a miracle and deserves the chance to live. This side stays on the course that all lives matter and deserve the chance to live. Pro-Life argues that taking the life of another is not accepted in any society, they argue the side effects of abortions, and they argue that adoption is an alternative to abortion as...

...Americans are divided in half when it comes to being pro-choice and pro-life in regards to abortion. In 2010 a national survey was conducted, forty five percent of Americans were pro-choice and forty seven percent was pro-life. Individuals who oppose abortion believe that human lives should be protected. Pro-choicer’s think differently and feel that the decision should be left to the mother about what she wants to do with her body. The Gallup Poll, which was also conducted in 2010 shows that thirty eight percent of Americans believed that abortion is acceptable and fifty percent stated it was morally wrong. A small portion of approximately nine percent of people said it depended on the situation, such as if one was rape. The topic of abortion in the U.S. has prompted many national...

...abortion, leading to intense debates among pro-life and pro-choice political leaders and activists both at state and federal governments levels and as well as religious organizations. The abortion debate is often considered a two-sided controversy; however, the issue involves questions about biology, morality and religion and legal rights. For example, people who consider themselves as pro-life activists argue that abortion destroys human life, which they believe begins at conception. As a result, the pro-life activists regarded abortion as immoral and should be illegal and abandoned. Some of the moderate pro-life advocates allow exceptions in the cases of rapes, incest, or if mother’s health is at risk. People who identify themselves as pro-choice activists contend that every woman has a right to make decision concerning her body and her future outweighs the right of the fetus. Some pro-choice supporters endorse restrictions on abortion, such as informed consent laws, which require that a woman receive state-authored literature on abortion before undergoing the procedure, and mandatory waiting periods. One of the most controversial restrictions on abortion requires minors to notify or obtain the consent of at least one parent before having an abortion. As the abortion debate continues, both groups (pro-life and pro-choice activists) staged very strong fundamental arguments given strong reasons and points supporting their stands and views. The pro-life activists most of who...

...body” (Margaret Sanger.) Pro-Choice and Pro-Life is a widely discussed topic in our society today, but there should not even be a discussion as an abortion should always be available for women who need it. There are many emotional, physical, health, and persona reasons for a woman to get an abortion; that society and the government ultimately should not have the say so on. The number one reason women have an abortion is due to lack of readiness financially. Now, you may be telling yourself that does not give a woman the right to “kill” her baby or maybe you are thinking that she should suffer the consequences of her action; but are you, as a pro-lifer, personally going to provide for that baby? Are you going...

...Pro Choice Abortion Essay Pro-Choice Abortion Essay In 1973, the Supreme Court’s decision made it possible for women to get safe, legal abortions from well-trained medical surgeons, and therefore led to dramatic decreases in pregnancy-related injury and death (“abortion”). Now there is a new proposal to close abortion clinics. This proposal takes away the privacy rights of American women that are guaranteed by our Constitution. By closing abortion clinics the government is not only taking away women’s rights, but is also punishing those whom want to exercise their right of a pro-choice woman. Abortion clinics allow thousands of women every year to have abortions. Having the abortion should be woman’s personal choice. By closing these clinics, there will be no providers to perform the operation, so the choice has already been made for them. Closing the clinics will increase the barriers of having an abortion. When there are too many obstacles, the right to make their own choice is taken away from them. In 1973 the American Supreme Court ruled that Americans’ right to privacy included: “the right of a woman to decide whether to have children, and the right of a woman and her doctor to make that decision without state interference” (“abortion”). The Constitution says we have a right to privacy, so taking away a woman’s chance to make decisions about her own body violates that right. The American Civil Liberties Union defends the Constitution and peoples’ rights. ACLU...

...controversial person this is about the only thing that I have ever had an opinion on. I am an anti- abortionist. I have grown up in the Catholic Church and that right there may say a lot to someone. Because of my religious beliefs I have always thought that abortion was the wrong choice because that is what I was taught through the religion I follow. The other side of this topic is the people who are pro- choice, which I always saw as wrong. With this being the topic of this paper I knew exactly who I was going to “take to lunch” and that is my best friend who I had just assumed had the same views as I did until we were faced with it in a real life situation. Catie is my best friend more like sister of 14 years she had moved away to attend college in California and it was our second semester of freshman year in college when I got a panicked call from my best friend telling me she was pregnant and she didn’t know what to do. This is why she is the person I have chosen to sit down with and have this conversation. Until now we have just avoided the conversation. My best friend Catie and I went to lunch, ok kind of, we got taco bell from the drive thru and drove around the beach back in our hometown Dunedin. Being as close as we are I came straight to her and said listen I need help with my speech paper and we are going to have to discuss our views on abortion. She was totally cool about it so since we are together 24/7 when we are both back home we just talked about it while we were out...

...wrong? Should a woman be allowed to have that abortion or should she strip a child from life or be forced to forfeit her right to make her own decision? Every year in the United States about 25% of all pregnancies result in an abortion, this adds up to over a million a year. Society is caught in the middle of this controversial topic because a portion of individuals believe that it should be a woman’s choice whether she has an abortion while others consider it to be murder. Abortion is a necessary medical procedure during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy, however, this procedure is sometimes abused and although it is needed, it is not always justified and therefore deserves to have stricter guidelines placed upon it. Many of us can safely say that the media shapes our approach on a daily basis. Since abortion is such a touchy subject and it is based on moral issues, our feelings are changing constantly. With the help of the media anti-abortion group is one step ahead by putting graphic displays on the television to help get their point across. For the pro-choice side the position morally is hard to display. The most important point that needs to be heard is that early abortion is a legal procedure. Abortion cannot be debated upon whether it is legal or not. There should be more scientific research done before people can make a decision on...

...Contents Introduction…………………………………………………………………………. 3 The dilemma………………………………………………………………………… 4 The Ideology………………………………………………………………………… 5 Conclusion…………………………………………………………………………... 8 Reference……………………………………………………………………………. 10 Introduction The issue on abortion has always been a world-renowned issue that is highly debated among the government, the liberals and the conservatives. The battle between choosing order or freedom has been a question that many cannot answer as the pros and cons in this issue are at an equal balance. An individual’s moral and religious view are questioned when it comes to this issue as well as a women’s right to choose. The two groups that come into play in this issue is those who supports the pro-life movement and those who supports the pro-choice movement. The pro-life movement is against abortion because they believe that the unborn child has to right to choose whether to be born and the mother does not have the right to terminate a life. The pro-choice movement supports abortion because they believe that a mother should be given the right to choose whether or not to bring a life into this world. Whatever the reason it may be for an individual to choose between being against and supporting abortion, the decision to ban abortion is in the hands of the government. Following the Roe vs Wade case in 1973, a decision was made and the Supreme Court ruled that women are given the right for an abortion and this includes the right to privacy during...

...necessitated death and murder? When does a woman's right over her internal reproductive organs become that of the government's? Is abortion wrong or is it right? Are rape, incest, and potential fatality to the mother exceptions when abortion is "okay"? Are there truly any at all? So many questions are raised by such a fervent debate, that we must look at both sides of the issue to better understand it in a general, but yet thorough approach. As expected, there are many people that are opposed to abortion. These people are better referred to as "pro-life advocates", or essentially, they advocate the life of the baby over the woman's right to choose. Groups such as Human Life International (HLI), The Christian Coalition, and many others support the right of human life. There are several reasons why people who are pro-life do not...

... Christians should stick up for what the Bible preaches and save the innocent babies; also, the need to stand up and help the babies survive. Christians are very outspoken about this social issue and want it resolved. Abortion is a major social issue today. Many people believe, though, that a woman should have the right to get rid of her baby if she is unable to provide for it. Also, they do not believe that once pregnant, that it is just cells and not an actual baby. These pro-choice people think that life does not begin until the baby is born and in the world. This issue is running rampant in America and all over the world. First, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, abortion is “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus” (merriam-webster.com).Termination is a key word in the definition as well as the word death. Termination essentially means to get rid of. Death cannot happen if there is no life as pro-choice advocates believe. Additionally, Abortion can be done through many ways. In one way, the fetus is actually sucked up through a vacuum type machine. Another way is through a saline that causes contractions in which it comes out through the uterus. So pretty much like giving birth, it’s just not completely ready for the world yet. The nurses that work with Planned Parenthood watch it come out but are brainwashed that it is just cells. But from the movie, a true story, mentioned...

...child is still in the mothers womb. This can be done by almost anyone from the mother herself to back alley abortions and even to abortions by clinics set up especially for this purpose. There are two sides to this abortion topic the PRO-LIFE which is those who are against abortion altogether and the PRO-CHOICE or those who believe it is the womans right to choose if she wants to have an abortion. These two groups offer different solutions to problem. The pro-life solution is to have the child and basically live with it. They believe abortion is not an answer. The pro-choice solution is abortion because of reasons they feel are appropriate. Although abortion is morally and ethically wrong should it be legal for victims of rape or incest who have no other alternative? There is no real answer to this controversy, there are two sides to it though which have been arguing for many years over the subject. The first is the pro-life group. This group does not believe in the abortion factor. To understand where the pro-life stands we must first understand its beliefs and reasons for its beliefs. Then we can discuss what their solution to the Pro-life believes that rape and incest are very emotional topics. "They often elicit throughout the population feelings of revulsion; people draw back from the issue of rape and incest. People don't know how to handle a person who is in that...
