...years of my life in running cross-country. The morning practices every weekday during the summer, the speed workouts on the track, the distance runs that never seem to end, all these have become part of my life. Without cross-country, I would have never been able to find out how much potential I have. Cross-country has allowed me to break down barriers and achieve goals I never dreamed possible. Because of cross-country, I have learned time management, leadership, and how to have a positive mentality. Cross-country has allowed me to meet people who I would have never even known. As an older member of the team, I am a role model for the younger members. As a result, I make sure to include younger girls on the team, whether it be by inviting them out to breakfast after a summer practice or including them in the conversation during warm-ups. I also give pep talks to my teammates before races to help calm their nerves. I have become a better leader due to my involvement in cross-country, which will benefit me as a nurse. Cross-country requires dedication in order to be successful. I have had to stay in on Friday nights instead of going to football games because the bus leaves at 4:30 the next morning for a meet. Because I had to wake up at 6:15 the next morning for practice, I could not stay out late on summer nights....

...My senior year of cross country, I was hit with the realization that this year would be my last chance to earn a spot on our varsity team. With a team reaching near one hundred runners, the competitive nature of the program is not like many others, there is always another person challenging you to take your spot. This development pushed me to train every day through the summer, regardless of the Texas heat, which often reached the mid-eighties or nineties in the mornings in order to reach my aspiration of participating in varsity athletics. Every morning, I struggled with rolling out of bed at the crack of dawn to exhaust my body in these extreme temperatures of summer to further tax my body through training. I constantly had to tell myself what was at stake, I had gone my entire high school cross country career without the experience of competing with the top runners, and this year was my final shot to exceed past boundaries in order to earn this chance. Surprise filled many of my teammates as I gained speed out of what appeared to be...

...! What determination means in my book is to always look for the better. Never give up and always strive for the best, no matter how hard the road might be. What determination means in the webster dictionary is a firm or fixed intention to achieve a desired end. Determination could also mean perseverance, strong willed, self motivated, relentless, willingness, ambition and strength. And I know I keep using ski racing as an example but it is an awesome example for determination. Not just ski racing but also any other sport out there. Any athlete can agree with me if they love playing sports and strive to be or get better on their part. I know that every sport I have participated in, I always had that inner drive or determination to push myself a little harder each day, practice, race, game, or meet. Iʼve played a lot of sports, such as field hockey, golf, lacrosse, gymnastics, crew racing, ski racing, cross country running, softball, and baseball and in each and every sport, I never gave up. Always wanted to show my coach what I was capable of, and if I didnʼt, I didnʼt feel satisfied. I remember when I was playing field hockey, and it was my sophomore year, I was starter on the Junior Varsity Team and I was put in as left wing, which is a forward. And all I remember was training really hard and showing up to every practice to show the coach I was worth being on Varsity as a sophomore but even though I didnʼt make the varsity team, I didnʼt let that stop me from trying any harder...

...the gun. This would be the most challenging and rewarding run of my life thus far. Squinting under the bright sunlight, I readied myself, preparing to give everything I had in what would be the culmination of my high school cross country career. Hearing my heartbeat in my ears, remaining steady with deep breaths, I tried to recall what had inspired me to end up here. Nearly three years earlier, I had a similar case of nervous energy, as I waited to begin a much different challenge. Deciding that I wanted to take part in my school's cross country team, I had never ran over a mile before by choice. After playing soccer my freshman year, my family and friends convinced me to run, to keep me conditioned for the next season. I didn't realize how much work would be necessary to earn a spot competing. At first, my goal was simply not to die, as that's what...

...When I decided to join the cross country team my freshman year, I never envisioned myself being a part of what would become known as “the best team in Hammonton history.” At the end of my freshman season, I finished the season as one of the worst runners on the team, with no expectations placed on me for the future. Now, at the end of my senior season, I can say that I, along with my fellow varsity teammates, lead Hammonton to its first Atlantic County Championship in school history. There was no one, not even myself, that could have predicted my improvement. And while much of my improvement can be attributed to my physical growth over the years, I would have never reached this level of success if I did not change my mentality. During my first three...

...It has been such an honor to attend and play sports at Madison High School (MHS) these past four years. There is a high standard of excellence at MHS and I love representing the school. When I moved here in 9th grade, there were so many people that reached out to me and included me in activities. I have always tried to do the same. When I walk down the hallways at school, I make an effort to say hi to others and smile to those around me. I am also part of the National Honor Society (NHS) Council this year. As a council member, I encourage students in the club to branch out at activities and meet new people rather than only being with their friends. In cross country and track, I make an effort at the beginning of practice to talk with teammates...

...I’ve always treated my life like a race. Setting goals in the race to make sure I hit the marks that I need to so I can run the best race I can. I’ve learned that if you don’t set goals you want to accomplish then you settle. I’m not one to settle, instead I want to strive to be the very best I can be. I have learned I have to give at least 100 percent to reach where I want to go. Setting mini goals along the way to reach the biggest goals I have in life. As I have reached the conclusion of my highschool goals I am starting to reflect on what I have accomplished and what I would like to see myself doing in the future. I went into highschool with one main goal- keep a high grade point average while participating in athletics and keeping...

...PURPOSE One sunny morning in 2005 while reading the newspaper, suddenly an article captured my attention. It was the Stanford Commencement Speech of Steve Job. The narration of Steve job’s life in three stories inspired me so much that I wanted to learn building user-friendly computers and work in the Silicon Valley. Eventually, when I was taught about computer operations in my school, I had an intuitive feeling that I wanted to be a computer scientist. Consequently, the hunch and evasiveness led me to study Computer Science and Engineering. In my junior year, I found out the field of the computer that interests me the most- computer security. While studying the Computer Networks course, I lost counts of hours studying different...

...I greatly respect and admire the National Honor Society and have always wanted to be a member ever since I saw my brother being inducted a few years ago. By being part of the National Junior Honor Society, I learned the different qualities needed for the next level. There are many qualities that will benefit the organization. I can contribute many things such as determination, hard work, and leadership. Throughout the past few years, I have played five different sports with back-to-back seasons. These include cross country, basketball, lacrosse, and most recently I started golf. I never played golf before this year but when I saw that we were getting a team, I wanted to give it a try. Only five people were on the team, and I had never even...

...of using it in a leadership setting as Goleman explains it. As Goleman states, the affiliative leader is one who is able to promote harmony within the team and also applies emotional connections. Affiliative leaders try to connect their teams by encouraging inclusion and resolving conflicts. One might find this leadership style easy to use, but the leader has to be be able to value the emotions of others and have a strong awareness of their emotional needs. In every team, a leader can always expect to have some conflict or tension, because as long as we remain people from different homes, with different backgrounds and upbringing. An affiliative leader can be very impactful when there is tension or conflict, when a team member feels as though their trust has been broken by another team mate or sometimes simply when the team is in critical need of some motivation to bring up morale and get thorough stressful...

...90501 Dear Hiring Manager: “Betsy.” This is the name my mom has given her 2010 Toyota Prius. She loves this car as do I because I get to drive my mom around in it when I visit her. The time spent together has generated memories that I will always carry with me. And, that’s why I want to work for Toyota. It’s a brand that brings people together with products that deliver lasting customer satisfaction. I am a MBA candidate at Thunderbird School of Global Management and I am interested in Toyota’s Strategic Resources Track internship that’s offered this summer. Toyota is defining the category and I want to bring my education and ten years of advertising experience to expand Toyota’s leadership position. I offer Toyota a passion for growing brands. In my advertising career I directed the success of regional and global brands and learned how to translate market data into strategies that delivered results. Additional skills relevant to this internship are listed below. Strategic Analysis I directed a team that positioned the fourth largest credit union in the U.S., BECU, as a financial leader in a highly competitive marketplace. Through analyzing our target audience and the financial category I identified insights that built a differentiated strategy. The advertising campaign that subsequently launched increased membership by 9% and reversed a downward trend in preference, consideration and awareness. Cross-Functional/Cultural Team Leadership I was responsible for managing all Publicis...

...The manager of the Filtration Unit, Peter Vyas, asks for $ 2 million to launch RIMOS, that from my point of view is the right thing to do. He should handle the expenditure request by stressing all the improvements that his team has been able to bring to the mini-oxidation system (in terms of design, functioning, sustainability and efficiency). Moreover he should underline the increased probability of success given by the first-mover advantage that is obtainable in the new specified market (U.S. regions with governmental restrictions for irrigation). Vyas knows that he’s facing a critical decision, but he’s confident that his project is going into the right direction and that is necessary to go forward for the survival of the division and to recover full trust. In order to obtain the additional $ 2 million funds, he needs to satisfy Cynthia Jackson’s request, adding specific data about costs, sales and targets, so that the business plan will be clearer. To convince the vice-president, Vyas should demonstrate how the additional investment could be useful to implement the project, for example: an increase of $ 2 million in advertising expenditures, will educate customers to the new technology and will help people understand how their lives will be simplified by RIMOS, with a consequent increase in demand. Cynthia Jackson, vice-president of ART’s Water Management Division, has to decide on the commercialization of the mini-oxidation system, compromising the survival of the Filtration...
