...The television (TV) is part and parcel of many households. Therefore, watching television is a culture of today’s modern society. It is a favourite past-time of many people, cutting across the culture, creed, gender and age. I must admit that I too enjoy “sitting glued” to the TV as mum often laments. Since I watch TV whole day long, I don’t blame mum. However, whenever I watch my favourite TV programme she doesn’t complain. In fact, she often sits together to watch it, the ‘National Geographic’. The National Geographic is a well-known documentary programme, focusing mainly on the ever-changing world, on Mother Earth and on nature and peoples and creatures that colour it with. Just the press of a switch and a button and ‘Hey Presto!’, the whole world is brought before me, for me to savour its beauty and wonders. Personally, I am often awed and amazed with them. I like this programme because it is very educational. It is a ‘window to the world’. By watching it, I can ‘travel’, ‘explore’ and ‘discover’ the four corners of the world. I have trekked up the highest peak and conquered Mt. Everest. I have dived down the deepest trenches. I have walked through the wilderness and be amongst the wild beasts, big and small. Thus, this programme has helped to expand my horizon and improve my knowledge and experience. I can proudly say I am no more a ‘frog in the well’. I also enjoy watching the National Geographic because it is entertaining, interesting and stimulating. I never imagined...

...industry are substitute services and customers. Youtube has become a problem to the television industry. Instead of going to a cinema or buying an original copy of a movie, most people all over the world switch to Youtube as an alternative as they do not need to fork out any money to watch videos on Youtube. Not only Youtube, the television industry also faces problems from other video streaming websites whereby TV shows and movies can be watched without any charges by Internet users. In terms of customers forces, problem that has merged towards the television industry is that customers find it easier and more convenient for them to watch their favourite shows online. Rather than having to follow the television programme schedule, customers can easily watch any shows via the Internet at anytime they wish. Another problem would be the loss of revenue of the television industry as people might cut their TV cable and turn to watching online because it is indeed lower to them in the sense of money. Obviously, most people do not want to pay an extra sum of money for TV programmes that they can watch for free. 2. Describe the impact of disruptive technology on the companies discuss in this case. In the case study, the two companies that were affected by the advancement of technology is the music company and the cable company. The music company face declining number of CD sales since the introduction of the Internet. This is because a lot of music can be downloaded for free from...

...Culinary tourism I’m going to talk about gastronomic tourism. In my presentation I’ll tell you what is gastronomic tourism, link between tourism and gastronomy, facts and stats, main destination and 5 major trends. Well, gastronomic tourism refers to trips made to destinations where the local food and beverages are the main motivating factors for travel. It is also known as “food tourism”, “tasting tourism” or “culinary tourism”. This means there is a particular audience of people who are willing to travel the world in order to sample and experience authentic international cuisines. Gastronomy plays a major role in the way tourists experience the destination, and indicate that some travellers would return to the same destination to savour its unique gastronomy. Move on to the facts and stats . * Culinary tourism tends to be largely a domestic tourism activity, with consumers travelling to places to eat and drink specific (usually local) product. * A domestic survey of leisure travellers in America found that 17% engaged in culinary related activities. * The growth in popularity of ethnic cuisines like Thai, Indian, North African, Mexican and Chinese throughout the industrialised countries is attributable to a significant degree to tourism where visitors sample local foods and develop a taste for them. * Food and drink festivals constitute the sole instance where the decision to travel is taken only on the grounds of the gastronomic experiences offered. ...

...Project Report on DTH Services in India Hyderabad Business School Team Members Name : Janardhan Samba Murthy Roll No: 2225112112 Email ID : janardhansambamurthyrock@gmail.com Name : R.Kavya Roll No: 2225112130 Email ID : Introduction: In earlier days there was only one TV channel in India. That is “Doordarshan” which was owned and operated by government of India. At the time of 90’s every home which had a TV set used to have its own antenna to capture the signals. The Cable Television Ordinance Law was passed in January 1995. This enabled cable operators to feed channels and later on private companies were allowed to air their own channels and this led to the explosive growth in number of TV channels and number of cable operators. The growth of TV channels & cable operators created a big industry and market opportunities. There were as many as 1, 00,000 cable operators across India until few years back. However the services provided by cable operators were poor. The strikes, increase in tariff plan, selective broadcast and poor services were major cause of dissatisfaction among the customers. This has created an opportunity for DTH. What is DTH? DTH stands for Direct-To-Home, it’s a system that allows you to have a personal dish antenna how cable operators do, except it’s much smaller in size, this antenna can be fixed on your terrace and receives transmissions directly from a satellite, hence it is called as a direct to home service. Direct to...

...market, so they can get the best results and profit. For instance it could be documentary on mafias, they could show it to a small target audience as they I have connections in terms of interests. When a media company is identifying an audience to find their target audience some of the factors they must consider are… Age – Gender – Religion – Race – Sexuality – Education – Occupation – Annual income – Disposable income – Current and desired lifestyle – Media interests – Buying habits – Loyalty to brands – Quantitative research: Quantitative research is a method used by producers to shape their targeted audience. This way it allows media producers to see the viewing figures on selected TV channels. In my opinion this way of doing it does not really help producers who are working on documentaries in finding out their target audience because it’’ just give you channels and programs get the most views and doesn’t give on the actual audience themselves in terms of interests. . Here is a link to a useful website that shows these viewing figures. http://www.barb.co.uk/ A way that I find this method useful to producers who are looking to create a documentary is that it shows the times...
