...secretary—an instance of Proverbs 29:10: "Bloodthirsty men seek to kill the upright." At the trial, the father of the slain boy, a minister, asked the judge to spare the life of the young cutthroat leader, and to be permitted to adopt him as his son, to replace the son that was murdered. As a result of this extra measure of forgiving love, the young Communist and all of his living relatives were converted to Christianity. What is the source of such heroic love? The answer is found in the very command to love with the extra measure, in the words "I say to you..." (Matt. 5:44). The secret of love and its glacier-melting warmth can be found only in the person of Jesus. He didn't say, "Without my ideals, you can do nothing," or "Without my precepts, you can do nothing." He said, “Without me you can do nothing." You can't live the Sermon on the Mount unless the Savior of the mount lives in you. "And this is how we know that he lives in us," says John. "We know it by the Spirit he gave us" (1 John 3: 24). Virtue, like a well-cut diamond, is multifaceted. Heroic virtue is any of those facets supercharged with love. "Over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity" (Col. 3:14). That's why it is in the treatment of the virtue of charity or love that Jesus spotlights the "principle of the extra measure." It required heroic love to go beyond obeying the legal demands of the occupying Roman soldiers who could require a Jew to carry their military gear, but...

Although my journey in learning how to read and write did not lead to liberation and freedom in a physical sense like Malcolm X’s, I still became more confident that I would succeed in my life. Through reading and writing, I am free to be creative, imaginative and speak my mind. Furthermore, being taught multiple languages growing up has helped me to reach some of the highest points of my life. My philosophy of education is that being literate and educated opens up more opportunities to succeed and this belief has stemmed from my personal experiences from learning different languages. ...CHAPTER 1 A. Introduction Based on the Colegio de Sta. Rosa Makati Student Handbook Special Edition S.Y. 2012-2013, co-curricular activities serve as enrichment to the academic curriculum. Extra-curricular activities are activities that are not academic related but still under the supervision of the school. According to Ms. Rita Ruivivar, the activity coordinator of CSR Makati, co-curricular activities are related to academics thus, it could be outside school but still academic related. Extra-curricular activities on the other hand, are activities that are not academic related, for example basketball and volleyball teams, cheer force and other more. Based on thefreedictionary.com, co-curricular activities are complementing but are not part of the regular curriculum while extra-curricular activities are educational activities that are not falling within the scope of the regular curriculum. There was a research article in Korea made by Wi-Young So (2012). His article was about the association between physical activity and academic performance of Korean adolescent students. Surveys were given to the students to observe if physical activities are correlated with the student’s academic performance. He found out that vigorous physical activity is positively correlated with the academic performance in the case of boys. However, strengthening exercises were not positively correlated with the academic performance of both boys and girls. He also discovered that adequate physical...

...income. However, rather than simply talking about his own solution as another theory, he tells the reader in so many words that they are wrong. In this paper, I will argue that Singer fails to establish that we are morally required to give to charity. In Peter Singer’s paper he makes the claim that we ought to give up any surplus money we might have and send it to places like Bengal to prevent people from suffering or dying. However, is this really something we are obligated to do? Peter Singer relies on two main principles that help him establish his conclusion. The first principle state that, “…suffering and death from lack of food, shelter, and medical care are bad” and that “if it is in our power to prevent something bad from happening, without thereby sacrificing anything of comparable more importance, we ought, morally, to do it” (605). The first principle is most likely unable to be refuted as almost everyone can agree that suffering and death has nothing to do with good. Now the second principle can be explained by the example Singer gives that if you were in a situation where you were walking past a pond and see a child drowning you ought to pull the child out resulting in wet or muddy clothes, which in no means outweighs the death of a child. In other words, preventing something bad will always compensate ruining a materialistic thing or spending money on something insignificant. Peter relying on these two principles helps Singer establish his conclusion at the end of his...

...sustainably in everyday life. I learned that everyone can contribute to the society’s sustainability by taking some small actions, like reusing water bottles, unplugging, and etc. These small sustainable activities we can do in daily life cause big effects to the society and they are critical. If everyone keeps doing these sustainable actions ever day, we could change the world a lot. In class, we learned that sustainability is to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. By taking this exercise, I think that sustainability is not only a responsibility of corporations but also a responsibility for everyone in the society. Everyone should contribute to sustainability by taking these small actions. 2. Discuss the administration of Small Steps? Where directions adequate from Ron, Liz or Net Impact National? Was the program easy to follow? What would you ask us to do differently next semester? How about incentives (extra credit, cash, great interview story, etc – discuss)? The administration of Small Steps is good and it was easy to follow the exercise. My contributions to sustainability by taking these small steps are shown clearly on the website. It is easy to see the impacts to the society caused by my small sustainable actions, like CO2 I reduced, money I raised and etc, and it can encourage us to do more sustainable actions. Also, I can see what sustainable actions taken by my friends, which is a...

...My senior year of cross country, I was hit with the realization that this year would be my last chance to earn a spot on our varsity team. With a team reaching near one hundred runners, the competitive nature of the program is not like many others, there is always another person challenging you to take your spot. This development pushed me to train every day through the summer, regardless of the Texas heat, which often reached the mid-eighties or nineties in the mornings in order to reach my aspiration of participating in varsity athletics. Every morning, I struggled with rolling out of bed at the crack of dawn to exhaust my body in these extreme temperatures of summer to further tax my body through training. I constantly had to tell myself what was at stake, I had gone my entire high school cross country career without the experience of competing with the top runners, and this year was my final shot to exceed past boundaries in order to earn this chance. Surprise filled many of my teammates as I gained speed out of what appeared to be...

...really great point to me in life that no matter what class you are in you have to think creative. In the entire course there was nothing but writing. I can honestly say English 102 has taught me to be a better researcher and a better writer. The writing for me was super hard in the beginning of the course. I have never seen myself as a writer I suffer from an extreme case of writer’s block which causes me to give up without giving a shot at the work. The extra help has made me feel as writing will never shy away from you in life so just write. The annotated references played a big role throughout the course this semester. The role annotated references had been the whole outline of this course without the annotated I had nothing to write about. First I struggled with the concept of the references I realized that there wasn’t a research paper without the references. The references were one of the most time consuming aspect of the paper. The research question had to have a connection towards the refernces The difficulty I encountered in English 102 came about from the grasping of the material, the details in the rubric, and the guide lines. The biggest thing I had a problem with was staying on topic, and giving too much of my personal opinion in my writing. The structure of the class is made to stay on top of your independence of the reading and writing. During the course of the class there were many small learning skills that were provided to gain extra help. The small learning...

...distance education in a convenient manner. I made a decision to enroll in an online program to achieve my Doctor of Business Administration degree to advance my career forward. I am fully aware that, pursuing my education in an open distance learning environment is not going to be easy. First and foremost, balancing my online learning endeavor together with maintaining my regular life commitments involving family matters, my job and social interactions is expected to be challenging. In order to overcome these challenges, I intend to create appropriate enabling environment for my online learning experience without too much disruptions affecting my way of life. To achieve my objectives, I may have to compromise on some of my social interactions, weekend retreats and hobbies. Establishing appropriate time and place for reading, comprehensions and conducting my regular assignments to stay on truck are critical success factors that enrich my new online learning experience. While I possess extensive experience using technology (computers and the Internet), acquiring reliable and sustainable communication bandwidth for Internet access is essential. This can be achieved by upgrading my current communication link to a reasonable but robust speed. Furthermore, working in a mobile environment will allow to use the Internet from anywhere at any time. ...reason that I decide not to drink is because my friend got really drunk, almost to the point of alcohol poisoning, and I told myself that I would never drink based on her actions. Another reason that I do not drink is because I saw this girl who was drinking and fell flat on her face, and I called the police because her friend was too scared to do it because they were underage and thought that they would get in trouble. I would rather do other things than to go out and drink all the time. Ways that I like to stay away from alcohol is by dancing with my friends, watching movies, hanging out with friends, going to the mall, traveling, eating, and sleeping. These are all things that I can do without having to result to drinking alcohol. Also, if I do most of these with my friends, then they will not be pressuring me into going out and drinking with them. We all can have a good time by doing some of the things listed above without the presence of alcohol involved in the equation. Ways to get involved here at the University of Iowa is to join student organizations that I am interested in, go watch sporting events, go to the floor events or even the events in Hillcrest, and meeting new people on the floor. By getting involved here at the University of Iowa, I can find something that I love and am truly passionate about and will not have to result to drinking alcohol. Also, by meeting new friends either on the floor or in some of my classes, we can go watch sporting events, watch...
