...My Incompetent Boss Over the years I have worked with many people. Most of these people were pleasant to work with, real team players. However some of the people I worked with made my blood boil, constantly making the job difficult. But there was one person I will never forget, Jeff Lander. Jeff Lander was the most incompetent person I have ever worked with. Jeff made me lose money, constantly complained and would try to get people he did not like fired. Jeff Lander made me lose money on a daily basis. To being with, I was a cleaner for Shawnee Villas resort in the Poconos, Jeff was my inspector. Because Jeff would not arrive on time, I was forced to wait for him. Jeff was responsible for telling me what houses I had to clean. I waited 10 minutes, 20 minutes and hour, still no Jeff. This was extremely frustrating since I got paid by the amount of villas I completed in eight hours. When Jeff finally arrived, he did not have the proper paper work. I asked what happened to it and he proceeded to tell me some long story about how his girl friend threw it out the window while they were arguing. I did not care, I just wanted to start working already. But I was forced to wait even longer while he went to the main office to get new paper work. Once we were finally ready to go, Jeff drove all of the cleaners to the villa’s, at least I thought he was. He wanted to making a quick stop to the deli and get coffee, the stop was not quick. As I walked in the store I heard Jeff demanding...

...components. Even though it is difficult to judge which quality is the most significance one to a great friendship, I would have to say that tolerance, loyalty, trust and acceptance are vital for that reason that there is an issue that occurred around me. Jeff is my best friend in China. He is also a Chinese. Jeff is his English name. One issue once happened in an unimaginable way. Jeff is a Muslim. Region is unusual in my city. People like trying new things such as making a Muslim friend; however, it is an unquestionable fact that people have to take risks while trying new things. Due to several religious reasons, Jeff and I have completely different views of the world, of men, of life-style, and of themselves, which had resulted in intolerance and a split between us in our high school life. So here, I want to say that high tolerance is a necessary contributing factor to a friendship. As we know, friends are always are the first to critique work and point out of flaws. Nowadays, we are living in a society with diversity. It is very critical to accept a friend for who they are, but not anything they do must be tolerated. Tolerance and acceptance look like a pair of twins, cleaving together and leaped forth into the world. Jeff and I are back together. Do you think that tolerance and acceptance are really enough to a good friendship? Definitely not; it is because tolerance and acceptance are the foundation of a friendship as they make the connection between two people, and the...

...June 25, 2012 was the day that changed my life forever. I was awakened around 1:00am by the most horrific noise coming from my husband, Jeff. He was having the most violent seizure I had ever witnessed. I started shaking him and screaming his name in hopes that he would snap out of it, but he remained unresponsive. My hands were shaking so much that I could barely dial 911 for help. It seemed like it took forever for the EMTs to arrive. They immediately began to try and stabilize him but all of their efforts fell short so their focus shifted to getting him to a hospital. It took about forty-five minutes to get him loaded onto a gurney for transport to Trident Regional Medical Center, the closest hospital. Jeff was still seizing when they left in the ambulance. I arrived at the hospital around 2:30am and was informed that the doctor(s) were trying to stabilize Jeff so they could run some tests and scans to try and figure out what was wrong. I decided to call Jeff’s brother, Greg, and let him know what was going on. Greg left work immediately and came to the hospital along with Malinda, their sister. We were summoned to a small, private room where we were greeted not by a doctor, but the hospital chaplain. As he began to talk, my heart sank. Why was he there and not a doctor? He was asking me question after question, but I could not answer him. I finally looked up at him and all I could say was that I wanted to talk to a doctor and that he could leave right then. By this point...

...FLST 3160 02 F2 2015 Topics in Film Studies Film Noir Colin Taylor Out of the Past Out of the Past is a 1947 film noir directed by French director Jacques Tourneur from the source novel, “Build My Gallows High” by Daniel Mainwaring and using a script by the author but with hefty additions from the author of The Maltese Falcon, James M Cain as well Frank Fenton, a B-movie writer who rumour has it was responsible for many of the films great one liners. As the AMC film site has it, “The downbeat screenplay was based on Geoffrey Homes' (a pseudonym - his real name was Daniel Mainwaring) 1946 novel Build My Gallows High, a book that consciously imitated Dashiell Hammett's The Maltese Falcon (1941). (An uncredited James M. Cain wrote some of the script.)” Tourneur was an established director whose oeuvre was predominantly what we should call B Movies but all of which had a striking visual style. His three most famous movies before Out of the Past, Cat People, I Walked with a Zombie and The Leopard Man are all about transformation, the night, perversion, the corrosive effects of evil, and the powerful link between violence and sex. Both he and Mainwaring were unapologetic left wingers (Mainwaring had to operate under a pseudonym during the McCarthy witch hunts) who saw evil in greed. Mainwaring’s most famous film script was the “reds under the bed” masterpiece The Invasion of the Body snatchers, another film about changes in people. Out of the Past is such a rich visual and...

...hour after I left work, when my phone rang. The call was from my boss Doug, saying that I needed to come to the office, I asked why and he said he’ll explain later. Why would he need a detective at the station this late I thought. As I drove I called my assistant Jeff. He didn’t pick up, that’s when I realized something was wrong. Jeff always picks up I thought. I decided I needed to get there as fast as I could and took the highway. When I arrived at the station it was the dead of night. Usually the station was closed at this time but today the lights were on and the parking lot was full. As I walked in I saw every one rushing around. They seemed to be looking for something. I tried to ask them what they were doing but no one answered. After five minutes of being oblivious to what was happening, my boss Doug pulled me aside and filled me in. “We got an emergency call from Jeff about an hour ago and he told us to come to the station” He exclaimed.“No!” he exclaimed as we looked for Jeff. Then we saw it, the body of Jeff, laying motionlessly behind the dumpster. I thought to myself Who could’ve done this. Why would someone do this. I went home frustrated and sad. Jeff was one of my dearest friends, I should’ve been there to help. The next day I arrived at work...

...Noel Kleinbardt Mrs. McFarlane World History Renaissance Man My current day renaissance man that I chose was Jeff Bridges. Jeff Bridges has done a lot of significant things thorough his lifetime. He is currently 65, and is an actor, singer, producer, and a composer. Now, what exactly is a Renaissance man? A Renaissance man is a well round person. Back in the actual Renaissance times around (1330-1550) standards for a Renaissance man were very high. Back then a Renaissance man was charming, educated, skilled with your sword, classic, well mannered, athletic, could play music, and could write poetry. Believe it or not but Jeff actually meets many of these qualities from back then. Jeff is a highly acclaimed actor and song composer. Some movies that Jeff has been in are: R.I.P.D., Iron Man, Tron Legacy, Ted, The Giver, and The Pilot, just to name a few. Some studio albums by Jeff are: “Be Here Soon”, which was released on January 1st, 2000. Another album of his is “Jeff Bridges”, which was released on August 16th, 2011. Raphael Sanzio was also a renaissance man during the actual renaissance from the 1300-1600. Raphael was an Italian. He died on April 6th, 1520 at the age of 37. Raphael was know greatly for his paintings. Most of Raphael’s work is know for his great clarity. He made things look so clear and crisp. Raphael was very productive, owned a big workshop. Raphael in my eyes was a renaissance man back in his time because he mastered an art. He was very good at painting...

...Jeff Dunham versus Eddie Murphy Robert Smith Com/155 February 17, 2013 Julie Davenport Jeff Dunham and Eddie Murphy are each entertaining in different ways, such as using characters or vulgar humor because they seek to fit different audiences. The most important reason they are both entertaining in different ways is because Jeff Dunham uses characters and Eddie Murphy uses vulgar humor. Eddie Murphy has been around the entertainment circuit for much more years longer than Jeff Dunham but both are tremendously funny in person. Jeff Dunham is entertaining in his own right by using fictional characters to get the audience laughing aloud. I am comparing two of the best comedians today. They are Jeff Dunham and Eddie Murphy. I think they are both hilarious. They have their own ways of entertaining their audiences. Jeff Dunham uses ventriloquist puppets which are called characters. Their names are Walter, Peanut, Achmed the dead terrorist, and Bubba J. They all are very funny because they have different accents and they have their own quirks. Walter is shown as a grumpy old man that complains about everything. Peanut is a purple monkey that makes fun of everything he comes across he also has an endless amount of energy. Achmed is always talking about blowing stuff up. Bubba J is a beer-drinking redneck that likes...

...electronically, books, now even furniture. I got my first real experience with amazon when I wanted to upgrade my cell phone, but even my cell phone carrier wanted a ridiculous amount for the phone I wanted. Even though I have been a customer for years the (SPRINT) wouldn’t budge on the price. So after a little shopping around, even looked at rival carriers with thoughts of possibly switching, I came across the same phone on amazon. I did a few price matching but the deal amazon had been unbeatable. Now the phone was 300 dollars out of pocket to upgrade with my cellular carrier, and maybe 250 to 275 with T-Mobile and Verizon. Amazon had the phone for 124 $ through Sprint, with a new two year contract, free shipping and took care of all the third party agreements. You call that a deal, well I sure did and have been a faithful customer ever since. Now I gave this little history of my own personal experience with Amazon to show that it’s not just ordinary decision I need to give a consult on for me to advise on investing due to their popularity and fame, but to show I have witnessed firsthand on the other side of the table how the company works and how as a customer I felt for the company. In order to give that kind of advice, I will dig deeper in how the business is and if it’s worth the money to invest. Seeing the video of the company’s CEO named Jeff Bezos, I learned how he started up the company and how he laid out his plan. Jeff Bezos has a career background in computers, he...

...the campus but still we encourage you to read books at our grand library.” I heard someone woohoo-ed. Orientations, I really hate attending one. They all talk and talk about their state-of-the-art facilities; a bunch of show-offs flashing their fake smiles. An honour to be their guidance? Not. We all know that most schools especially the ones that are owned by companies, including this one *coughs*, only want our money. They don’t care about how difficult exams are. They don’t care about how some professors are evil to the core. It’s just plain business. Believe me. After all, this is not my first school. “Again, thank you and welcome to International School of Arts. Feel free to visit our different school organizations to their booths.” she claps her hands and then points us to a huge door. I didn’t hear telling her name because I was too busy playing flappy bird at my phone, stupid bird. Sometimes I question myself if this flappy bird is a cartoon bird or a fly. Seriously, it looks like a fly with lips like Angelina Jolie’s. By looking at her short silver wavy hair and I assume she’s at her sixties, I bet she’s the president of this school. Everyone claps after the...

...“The Ultimate Rip-Off: A Taxing Tale” At the beginning of “The Ultimate Rip-Off: A Taxing Tale”; it discusses how Jeff Burke, a Special Agent for the IRS agent, used to love playing and pitching in softball when an unfortunate accident lead him to the doctors' office. Luckily, Jeff had not suffered any serious injuries, nothing an ice pack couldn’t fix. As a mental note Jeff was going to make purchasing jock support a priority. After leaving the doctors' office Jeff reflected on the fact that most doctors are active investors in securities, bonds, rental properties, and especially real estate. Jeff drifted off into daydream land and thought about the days when he would have been able to audit the doctors’ office. Today, however, an agent can look at only taxpayers’ files that they are auditing. The plot begins when Jeff received a call from Nick Anderson, an elite Special Agent and a longtime friend, who works for the Treasury Inspector General for the Tax Administration Division (TIGTA). Nick had suspicions that there was a crooked IRS agent in a critical position. Nick had started out his career as a strike-force Agent; their basic function was to uncover possible criminal activities. Their duties often consisted of undercover work. The book explains some terms used in the industry along with some statistics, and IRS history. For example, in 1998 Congress prohibited financial status or economic reality techniques to determine the existence of unreported income unless an agent...

...The type of leadership that is used effects the organization at one point or another, whether it is good or bad. In the process the morale is affected by whatever type of leadership is in play. Knowing that this could play out either way, it would beneficial to use an appropriate leadership style, because “morale can have a very significant impact on many variables.” (Rue & Byars, 2010) Some of those variables to consider would be turnover within the organization, attendance, and even poor mental health of the employees. I have only had less than a handful of different jobs to relate my experience of leadership to, but in most of those positions, I had more than one former leader and each possessed their own style. One example of the type of leadership I have experienced would be the autocratic leadership, which “centralizes power and enjoys giving orders.” (Rue & Byars, 2010) Marge was her name and autocratic leadership was her game, she abused her power and strongly seen her position as controlling everything, but handing the actual work down to us. This was not an effective style for her or the responsibilities we had. This got old quick and really discouraged our work team and it prevented any development to exceed her knowledge and abilities. Her way of handling her position was not appropriate, because she was only a shift manager, not even a full-fledged manager. Our responsibilities were just as much hers as they were ours, but she did hold more power, which should have...

...Fifth Avenue and 54th Street, the 6-foot-4-inch Jeff Einstein is a walking, talking redwood. The instant a potential customer breaches the invisible border of his department, he approaches to offer assistance. ''Too bad I'm not selling cars,'' he jokes with one pear-shaped man after setting him up with a pair of khakis -- 40-inch waist, cuffs, pleats -- in less than 15 seconds. There's something self-conscious about Jeff's act, as if he's trying to prove to himself that he's comfortable with his job. Or maybe it's that he's overcompensating for having been a bit slow to tell me about it a few weeks earlier. (''I'm working in retail now,'' he had said cryptically.) Either explanation makes sense. Jeff is not your typical Gap salesman. When his shift ends, we relocate to a nearby bar, and Jeff tells me the story of landing the job. The Gap was gearing up for the Christmas onslaught near the end of last year, and he was summoned for a group interview. ''There were about 20 people in the room,'' Jeff recalls, ''and each one of us had to introduce ourselves and talk about our most recent position. There was a cashier from McDonald's, a woman who had worked at Baby Gap, a ticket collector from Loews, a gift wrapper from Barnes & Noble. Then it came to me. I said I used to be an executive vice president and a director of interactive marketing for Rapp Digital, a digital media company with 300 employees and a P. and L. of $40 million.'' Jeff, who is 50, lost his job at Rapp Digital almost...
