Change is the process of making a difference; in business this is the process of making a difference in the future of an organization. An organization cannot move forward without a plan for growth and change, and a manager whom can facilitate the growth and change needed to accomplish this plan. Within any organization change is inevitable. By creating a mission and values intent on a changing, dynamic future, a manager is setting the organization up for success.
The two main forms of change within management are internal and external. Externally, there are many issues related to the environment, social standards and even the systematic debate about change itself. Internally, there are changes within management, budget, communication standards, group norms and social standards; any of these changes can affect the future of an organization.
Organizations need managers whom are willing to deal with these changes in a straightforward and meaningful way. Management is a process to create change, in turn managers can help mold an organization into a forward thinking, innovative company that can obtain, and hold, a competitive advantage. An agent of change for an organization can be anyone whom can help transform the organization into a more effective and efficient company.
A manager’s first role is to combat resistance to change. Resistance to change usually happens because of miscommunication, or lack of communication. A manager needs to first look at the true nature of the resistance and then to decipher the nature of the resistance. An employee’s preoccupation with the nature of the change and the manager’s preoccupation with the employee’s attitude with the change can create a void in progress. Resistance to change is not productive for the organization
