On June 1, 2015, Texas Governor, Greg Abbott signed the “Campus Carry” law which allows concealed handgun license owners to carry concealed weapons onto campuses and in general buildings of publicly governed institutions of higher education within Texas. Campus Carry went into effect on August 1, 2016, however as expected, anti-gun proponents did not support the law. In December 2015, pro-gun activists staged a mock mass shooting on the University of Texas campus, complete with fake cardboard guns and ketchup. Their message was that an armed campus is less vulnerable to would-be mass murderers.
