The Holland's Personality Traits exercise is used for one to understand and see where their interest and abilities lie. I took the personality test and the results that I received were that I am Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. The traits that were associated with each personality type were very accurate pertaining to me and how I handle work and life period. The Conventional strait like numbers and order. Social trait likes helping people. And the Enterprising trait is a leader and is good with leading others. These characteristics were very accurate and made me think about how much I incorporate them in my daily activities at work along with my personal life. I find exercises like this to be forthcoming and it make you think about the strengths that you have that go unrecognized. It also made me think about where my passion lies and what do I want to do in the future beyond my schooling.
I am passionate about people and have been in the service industry for over 10 years now so it was only feasible that I search the occupation of a Customer Service Supervisor which is my current title. The two occupations from the result from O*NET that stood out to me were: Bookkeeping, Accounting, and Auditing Clerk and Loan Officer. I currently have an Associate Degree in Accounting which is my passion so that's why I found it interesting that these two fields would fall under Customer Service. I believe that I would be phenomenal at each of these positions not only because of my educational background, but because of the qualities that I possess. Both of these positions require accuracy, self-motivation, leadership, and consistency. From the results that I got from the Holland's Personality trait exercise I have them all. I have a passion for numbers and I also have the educational credentials to go alongside with that. My passion for servicing people and helping in

Onet

...O*NET Review Personally, I found the O*Net to be a great tool. The online database served as a useful starting point for developing the job description because it is so rich in data that is well organized. Among other data, each occupation is provided with a list of tasks, knowledge, skills, abilities, work activities, work context, education, and work styles. However, although it is great that it provides a lot of data, too much data can also be overwhelming. Thus, the person creating a job description should take the data and analyze it in order to create a job description tailored to a specific company context because the data is too generic. Aside for being a tool for gathering data, what I liked the most about the O*NET is that the site could be utilized a career exploration tool. The site can be a career exploration and assessment tools that help individuals (workers and students) identify their work-related interests and abilities and what they consider important on the job, so that they can explore occupations that match their interests, abilities, and preferences. Also, it has a section that provides outlooks for the occupation so that people can monitor occupations and be able to see where there are career opportunities in the market. ...the company’ operations either directly or indirectly. In this article, Judy is having difficulty in filling 37 meter readers’ positions regardless the company is paying $30 per hour for the job. Granting it is a high salary for unskilled work, not all employees are willing to work in this position1. Based on a research done by Campbell, McAllister and Eley, employees’ job satisfaction is influenced by intrinsic motivation, such as pleasure, interest, challenge at work and etc. Although some may argue that extrinsic rewards are more important, it does not apply when employees’ salary rises above subsistence level; instead, the intrinsic rewards of work would be perceived to be more important than their income. According to the article and ONET OnLine, the tasks for meter readers are mainly to read and record the consumption of steam, gas, electricity or water from the meter, which the nature of the job itself is simple and repetitive. Hence, it is concluded that this job would lead to employee boredom due to the routine job task and eventually, leads to job dissatisfaction. As meter reader will be demotivated over time, the organisation will have to decrease turnover and increase job retention by recruiting the right employee for the job. Personally, I agree more with Judy’s decision in hiring meter reader with qualifications of high school diploma as the skill they required to have in this particular job is common level of sensemaking and to distinguish whether or not the meter...

College Is Still Worth the Expense

...College Is Still Worth the Expense: Summary By Kevin A. Lewis #204627 Within our society there is an ongoing debate over whether college or higher education is worth the constantly rising expense. This article gives the “open mind” the opportunity to discern whether the average debt of $20,000 for secondary schooling is worth the opportunity to obtain gainful employment with an average salary of $50,000. Sure “no debt is better than some debt” (Draeger, 2009), but with the state of our economy this level of debt mat be necessary in order for a person’s financial security and survival. Draeger compiled an abundant amount of information he researched from ONET (Occupational Information Network), a database developed for the U.S. Department of Labor, and the American Community Survey, conducted by the U.S Census Bureau, to solidify of how there is a strong correlation between “earning power and education level”. With the information and numbers Draeger furnishes about how education puts people into different “zones” or income classes, gives credibility to his assessment that “a moderate amount of debt still makes college worth it” (Draeger, 2009). Draeger compiled and presented the staggering differences education makes by explaining how the “zones” are separated. Zone 4 and 5 (individuals with at least a 4 year degree), being the highest zones, fetch the median income of $50,000 to $60,000, as to where zone 1(individuals with a high school diploma or less), have a...

Journey of My Writing

...The journey of my writing Writing is a beautiful thing. There are like rainbows rare majestic and transparent. Good writing is rare and majestic because the reader understands exactly the point of view that the writer is trying to convey. They are also transparent because the writers meaning can be hidden through symbolism, irony or even syntax. However good writing is a process just like anything else. It takes time to tone your skills and develop your writing. My writing is no exception. There are many things I need to develop. It has considerably grown from when I first started writing in 4th grade till now. My first writing was a fictional story we had to come up with. IU wrote about being trapped on an island that was surrounded by sharks. It sounds pretty easy however it was not. My story did not flow throughout for example as I crashed down and swam towards the island there were sharks. There is no transition from the crash to sharks. For a 4th grader trying to write a simple story was hard.I was a beginner in wrting. Many teachers were surprised at my writing skill. I was a bookworm and was well above my reading level. Being able to read high level was suppose to increase your writing skills or that’s what I believed. But that did not happen to me. The teachers and myself kept asking how can I be such a good reader but not a good writer. That question used to mistify me, I could not figure out the answer for that. I kept reading higher level books and still that...

Job Analysis

...To begin my analysis, I would spend some time determining what jobs I will be analyzing and for what purpose I would use what I learn. Part of this research would be to look up current job descriptions, any other references to the job in current corporate documents, and the job’s place in the organizational chart. After determining exactly which titles I would be looking at, I would then conduct a survey of a random sample of all employees in the job title or representative job titles. Preferably, this would be an online survey due to the ease of distribution to employees whether they are located in different areas or in some cases in different countries (Rama Rao, 2009). If it is possible, I would prefer to distribute this survey over the company’s intranet for the ease of use and ability to accomplish many related tasks (Kuzmits & Dos Santos, 2000). If the corporation lacked the ability to conduct such a survey by intranet, I would have the surveys distributed in the employee’s mail box, folder, or other communication area. In composing the survey, I would speak with immediate supervisors of the group to identify the major duties of each job (HR-Guide). Using this information, I would compose a questionnaire that asks employees about their jobs based on the duties identified by the supervisors and those identified by the O*NET system as standard to certain jobs (US Department of Labor). To try to get the broadest reach and the most number of responses, I would allow sufficient...

...Professional Development Today’s economy has made it very important for a person to further his or her education in order to compete in the job market. Counseling is a professional field of study that requires advanced education and training. Counseling graduates can meet the growing needs of society in many different areas of study. School counselors may work in post secondary schools, high schools, junior high, middle, and elementary schools. School counselors can collaborate with school professionals to make sure that the needs of these students are met. School counselors can also work in a college setting, which includes guidance and academic counselors. Counselors are there to offer guidance and academic assistance to college-aged students (O*NET, 2006). Rehabilitation counseling is an area of expertise for counselors who are interested in working with the disabled. Their area of concentration is to “counsel population with disabilities resulting from accidents, disease or illness, birth defects, or other causes” (Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2012).
