...RFID and Oracle Inventory System Management Riordan’s daily operations are inefficient and time consuming. Every stage of the supply chain is observed, tracked, recorded, and updated all visually and manually. The delivery of raw materials to the manufacturing warehouse requires a shipping supervisor to receive shipments from truck drivers with the shipping documents to show what has been ordered. This paperwork is than compared to a scheduled orders receiving report. This report is provided to the receiving are on a weekly basis. Once everything is confirmed by the supervisor, it is then handed to the inventory clerk to enter into the inventory system. The manufacturing of goods follows the same type of process. Raw materials that are used are recorded on an inventory form which is then turned into the inventory clerk at the end of the day. This process doesn’t allow up-to-date information on current warehouse stock levels. Then there is product shipping. Sales orders are taken through fax, phone, and sales employees. Sales orders are then copied and handed to the inventory clerk and entered into the customer shipping and billing system. With each shipping order sent, workers loading trucks then send those shipping documents to the clerk to update the inventory of sub-assemblies and final products in the system. These processes have a lot of physical handling of receiving, processing, and shipping goods. This can be very time consuming to manually track, record...

...IT Upgraded Its ERP Manufacturing and Finance Modules (PDF - 255 KB) Don’t fix it if it’s not broken - especially if you are talking about an extensive enterprise software foundation, right? Not necessarily. In the case of the Oracle software environment, Cisco® management teams decided that it was time to upgrade even though the Oracle 10.7 software was still getting the job done. IT, operations, and executive teams all concurred that this vital component of the company’s IT infrastructure needed to be modernized. While there would be clear benefits from an upgrade to Oracle 11i, the main decision drivers were the need to move away from an outdated platform that was becoming cost-prohibitive for supporting Cisco’s growth and evolving business requirements. In particular, any future development of enterprise solutions would be compromised if developed on a less-than-current Oracle platform. “Remaining competitive on a global scale often comes down to our ability to efficiently respond to changing operations, to work with new partners and suppliers, and to make sure that our employees have fast access to the latest productivity-enhancing technology and decision-making tools. Having an integrated, modern platform allows us to more rapidly respond to changing business requirements and to improve partner productivity and customer satisfaction,” says David Murray, director for release management, Oracle Projects, Cisco IT. “We knew that an upgrade to Oracle 11i would be a massive...

...Collaborative Writing Space for Project I THE OUTPUT PROCESS 1. The outputs of the order process are reports of credit holds, customer invoice when product is delivered and paid for, processing the product order, inventory check (product availability), shipping instructions, and reports of back orders. The Diagram: The diagram starts off with one of the business processes called sales. A customer faxes, mails or calls in an order to the company. The order is taken down by a representative who manually takes down mandatory information required for the order on an order pad, such as: customer name, customer identification number shipping/billing address, product number, product description, quantity, and shipping instructions. All customer information that is taken down is required to process the order. The representative accesses the firm’s order entry system and checks the inventory and location for each product that is ordered. The representative will access the company’s entry system and check the inventory for each product ordered. While taking down the information, the representative checks the availability of the product to the warehouse nearest to the customers shipping address. If the product is not available at the closest warehouse, a check is done for the next closest warehouse to find the product. While searching for availability, a credit check is performed before each order by the Accounting department. If the credit is approved, an invoice will be generated...

While most organizations choose the de-facto brand as their product, Cisco and its consulting partner, KPMG, went against this perception and selected Oracle who was a newcomer in ERP business. For Oracle this was a golden opportunity to enter a market dominated by SAP and get its ERP modules litmus tested by an industry leader. Cisco on the other hand agreed to help Oracle to market its latest releases to potential customers, in lieu of the successful implementation. Oracle even allowed changing some of its modules to fit Cisco’s purposes. The implementation team comprised the best people from Cisco, KMPG and Oracle. To have the customized ERP up and running in nine months the team blended the robustness of sequential life cycle model with the flexibility of the iterative prototyping.
