An Effective and Organized School Schedule
Introduction
With only 55 minutes per class period, teachers aren’t always able to meet their standards to teach the whole lesson in the time given. This causes students to have an increased amount of homework handed out due to the assignments that weren’t completed during class time. Granbury High School currently has an eight-period schedule meaning students have to attend all eight of their classes every day for the entire school year. Because of the amount of classes students have within their school day, they don’t have enough time to fully grasp and understand the concept a teacher is going over in class. Students should have an extended amount of class time to solve issues such as lack of learning …show more content…
Therefore, students can have an extended amount of time inside and out of class to gain a better understanding on materials and homework assigned from their teachers if our school enforces a block schedule. A block schedule is a flexible schedule in which the class times are longer than the traditional schedule. Usually, the school day consisting of a block schedule withholds classes around 90 minutes each, and the classes alternate every other day. For instance, a student may have english, choir, geography, and art on ‘A days’, but then they’d have to switch to basketball, algebra, and chemistry on ‘B …show more content…
A block schedule not only helps improve a student’s academic intelligence, but it also helps with the reduction of homework so that students are able to participate in their extra-curricular activities without the stressful amount of homework needed to be done and due by the next day. A social studies teacher named Peter Lien quotes that “the block system allows debate and group discussion. It also allows students to start working on assignments and homework and get individual help from teachers. (Teachers, Students Appreciate)” Not only will students get more class time and less homework to do after school, but teachers will also have a longer amount of class time to help answer questions, and go more in depth in the lesson. A man known by the name of Flocco studied the differences between traditional and block schedule. In result, he found “that students were taking more AP Exams at the end of the school year, more students took and retook the SAT, and academic time was saved from students missing due to extra-curricular activities. The study attributed these outcomes to less stress and ultimately resulting from implementing the block schedule. The life at school slowed down, and students were able to digest the material being taught (Flocco,

Aed 201

...AED 201 Managing a Daily Teaching Schedule Below are three tips that I have found that will help me keep my schedule the same and help manage my time within my classroom. 1. Create a consistent classroom routine/schedule that students may grow accustomed to. 2. Use small blocks of time wisely to make sure you can get all productivity done and also lighten the work load that one has for after school hours. 3. Assign manageable classroom task to students, teaching assistance, and or student teachers. As a potential educator these tips will really impact how my schedule will be in a positive manor. To me there never seems to be a lot or enough time in a school day to cover everything that a teacher wishes they could. Unexpected things happen all the time in school that can interrupt what was being taught and how much time should have been given to be taught. This is why it is very important that teachers have excellent time managing skills. With such skills teachers many provide the most productive and stress free environment that can for their students. Having a well-organized classroom and a consistent daily schedule will help limit unproductive time that should be spent searching materials. In my opinion an organized classroom is honestly a happy classroom. Delegating classroom tasks to students and teaching assistance will help reduce stress but also can help free up small blocks of time that teachers can squeeze in prepping, grading papers, and taking notes...

My Paper

...September 18, 2013 Working Through College There are several types of college students. Some students live on campus and take the required 12 hours of classes while taking out loans to pay for school. Other students take as many classes as they can fit in their schedule and take on jobs to pay the bills. These two groups of students can be classified by many different characteristics. But students who work their way through college become more diversified individuals. Working college students have a tendency to be extremely organized. They have to manage their time very carefully, or they will succumb to the stresses of a busy schedule. Instead of just going to class, these students also have to make time for their jobs. Most only work part-time jobs, up to 40 hours, but others are required to work full time jobs (40+ hours). They may use a handwritten agenda or a smartphone to keep track of all their obligations. For example, one student balances two part time jobs and 18 hours of classes. She uses an agenda to write down all of her work time and assignment due dates. This allows her to do the required class work in her free time from work. Without staying organized and knowing exactly what she needs to do, this student would not be able to pass classes. The results of not being organized affects both the grades and the work attitude. Student workers who are not doing well in classes are more likely to become stressed and temperamental at their jobs. These students are in charge...

Personal Responsibility

...Personal Responsibility Essay Laurie Smith GEN 200 January 4, 2012 Adrianna Szymkowski Personal Responsibility Essay I believe personal responsibility is an important part of success. Whether the success I am trying to achieve is educational, professional or personal. If I do not take reasonability for myself I will not be successful in anything I strive to do. It is my opinion that an important personal trait to have is organization. I believe with proper organization you can achieve personal responsibility which helps you achieve success. I define personal responsibility as having integrity, accepting consequences and the effects that an individual’s actions have on others. To me integrity has three characteristics: being honest, having values or morals, and being self-aware. I believe it is a conscious decision to admit ones mistakes by telling the truth whether or not someone is watching me. Values are used to create an individual’s moral compass telling me what is right or wrong. I feel that many values a person has is often constructed by a person’s culture as well as the individuals that raised them; I believe that a person always has the choice to reevaluate and change their morals as they choose. For a person to have self-awareness I consider if the individual is not only reliable and trustworthy but also possesses humility and are humble instead of a sense of indulgent pride. Another trait of personal responsibility is accepting consequences. I consider accepting...
