...Health Information Technology Career Overview I am here to tell you what I’ve learned in my first 4 weeks of being in Introduction to Health Science class at Kaplan University. The profession I chose is Health Information Technology. Health Information technology is very interesting. I have learned a lot about that I didn’t know even though I do this job on a daily basis. Health information technology (health IT) involves the exchange of health information in an electronic environment. Widespread use of health IT within the health care industry will improve the quality of health care, prevent medical errors, reduce health care costs, increase administrative efficiencies, decrease paperwork, and expand access to affordable health care. It is imperative that the privacy and security of electronic health information be ensured as this information is maintained and transmitted electronically. (US Department of Health and Human Services, n.d.) As a health information technician career opportunities exist in: doctor offices, medical facilities, hospitals, insurance offices, pharmaceutical companies and labs. (Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Technology, n.d.) Health information technicians have multiple duties/task that are done. The following are some of the duties that I’ve learn that health information technicians have to do: * Review patient records for timeliness, completeness, accuracy, and appropriateness of data. * Organize and maintain data...

...Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that medical coding and billing will remain among the top fastest growing occupations for many years to come. Fact is: over 500,000 practicing physicians and hospitals in the USA rely heavily on medical coders and billers for customer service, and more importantly: to get reimbursed for medical services provided to patients. (http://www.medicalcodingandbilling.com) Many Billing services currently operate to manage medical practice billing among other services offered, providing physicians with the benefit and convenience of outsourcing their billing duties to third parties in order to relieve medical professionals of the tedious and challenging work that entails medical billing and account collections. National statistics show that only about 70 percent of insurance claims, initially submitted on paper, are ever paid by insurance carriers. With the advancements of health information Systems and the increase requirement and demand for electronic submissions Claims have increased the reimbursement percentage tremendously. A survey by the American Hospital Association concluded that about 18% of medical billing and coding positions remain unfilled due to a lack of qualified candidates. Occupational trends and future outlook for Medical Billing and Coding Specialists remain at the most positive standpoint. Job Outlook and Employment for Medical Billers and Coders: Medical Billing and its related occupations continues to be the fastest growing opportunities...

...The Journey of Accounting The employment for accountants and auditors is expected to grow by twenty percent between 2008 and 2018, which is much faster than the average for all occupations (“U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics” 5). This shows that accounting is a profession that is very dependable to get a job in. Accounting has been around for ages as it can be traced back to Italy in the Renaissance Era. Accountant’s nature of work is to make sure that business firms run efficiently, public records are kept accurately, and taxes are paid properly and on time (1). Accounting refers to a set of business practices designed to keep careful track of accounts, funds, and transactions between a company and its various stakeholders. The system we use today to track money in business was invented in Italy during the Renaissance. An Italian merchant invented it so that he could easily summarize his results at the end of the day. The system had a simple system of checks and balances to make sure that everything he had recorded was done correctly. The Italian merchant called his system the double-entry accounting system, and it was very simple to understand (Hart 4-5). His name was Luca Pacioli, born in Sansepulcro, Tuscany. Pacioli is known as “The Father of Accounting”. Later on, as trade increased between Europe and the Middle East, business grew beyond what a single owner could even handle. This caused the need for written records so that the business owners could keep up...
