Paragraph 1
Thank you for considering me for the position of Sales Manager at Einstein Furniture and Design in Dallas. Interior design has always fascinated me and after working at a small furniture store in my hometown, I fell in love with how creative one can be in this field. Cindy Wilbanks, my ninety-year-old manager at the time, was a true inspiration. Her knowledge and experience in interior design paved the way for my continued interest in designing spaces and creating one of a kind experiences for customers. Ms. Wilbanks’ fifty years of experience and her unique wealth of knowledge encouraged me on a daily basis. She worked her way up over the years and never gave up on her dream of owning her own store. She indeed opened and ran a successful store of her own and landed herself at the top of the industry. She eventually sold her legacy store, becoming one of the wealthiest women in Texas. Thankfully, she decided to train individuals like myself and worked in the industry with an undeniable passion all of her life. I’m excited that I now have that same passion for my career and I look forward to visiting with you to discuss what I can bring to your team.

Paragraph 2
Like I told you before, there is a position open here at Schmaltz Bookkeeping Service. The position is as assistant to my boss, Glendora Brock. I know you feel like you don’t have the experience to be an assistant in the bookkeeping world, but I honestly feel like you would be perfect. I would like to recommend you if you would allow me to. Your experience in sales at Dillard’s and Macy’s is exactly what is needed – you are comfortable talking to anyone. I know you are good with numbers and working with money, you did this as a cashier at Short Stop.
Your boss even wanted to start giving you more responsibility! Glendora needs someone she can trust. Someone that can welcome clients, collect payments, and do general filing and office work. We can ride to work together, plus this position pays a salary of $3,000 per month and free child care onsite! You’ve never been able to find positions that pay that well and as a single mom nothing is better than having free child care, this has your name all over it. I know Glendora values my opinion and my recommendations, she will be thrilled to meet my cousin and even happier to have you join our team. Please let me know what your thoughts are and in the meantime I will get you an application to fill out.

...the heading and the text (you may want to check Spacing under Format, Paragraph in your word processor, and make sure that it is set to “0”). Instead, just double space as usual, indent a full ½ inch (use the tab key), and start typing. The introduction should receive no specific heading because readers assume that the first section functions as your paper’s introduction. If you use headings, follow the instructions below. NOTE THAT NOT ALL ASSIGNMENTS REQUIRE HEADINGS. Examine the CEO’s personal and organizational values. This text will be the beginning of the body of the essay. Even though this section has a new heading, make sure to connect this section to the previous one so readers can follow along with the ideas and research presented. The first sentence in each paragraph should transition from the previous paragraph and summarize the main point in the paragraph. Make sure each paragraph contains only one topic, and when you see yourself drifting to another idea, make sure you break into a new paragraph. Also, avoid long paragraphs (more than three-fourths of a page) to help hold readers’ attention—many shorter paragraphs are better than a few long ones. In short, think: new idea, new paragraph. Evaluate how the values of the CEO are likely to influence ethical behavior within the organization. Here is another Level 1 heading. Again, the topic sentence of this section should explain how this paragraph is related or a result of what you discussed in the...

...Assignment #1 Frequently Asked Questions Questions from this term From: Sent: Tuesday, January 26, 2010 11:28 AM To: Boyd, Colin Subject: Assignment #1 Hi, I was looking at assignment #1, in particular the SWOT analysis. Examples of it I found online were a combination of point form and paragraph. Is this alright if I formatted it like this? http://marketingteacher.com/SWOT/amazon_swot.htm Thanks in advance, Answer Hi : That web site seems more like paragraph form than point form. Point form should be avoided, if possible, because it is harder to read, and the writer usually has been a bit lazy. Being forced to write flowing paragraphs makes you think more about what you want to say. Colin ---------------------- Question From: Sent: Friday, January 22, 2010 3:16 PM To: colin.boyd@usask.ca Subject: COMM 101 assignment Professor Boyd, I am unclear about "an aspect of strategy" that is required for assignment #1 in COMM 101(02).  Would you be able to clarify this in more detail so that my partner and I can success with this assignment. ...painting is representative of the Southern Italian style. How does the artist’s use of color, light and shadow, and composition (relationship of figures and space) affect your interpretation of the narrative? How is the human body rendered, and in what sort of environment? What priorities does this artist have in visualizing the narrative for the audience? After describing the painting, consider the cultural differences represented by Southern and Northern painting. How might this theme look differently had it been painted by a Northern artist? How might a Northern artist have interpreted the same scene differently? How might you recognize the museum’s painting as an Italian painting, even if you didn’t know the name of the artist? As a 1-paragraph conclusion, consider the impact of the museum space in framing your experience and how that experience differs from looking at a work in reproduction. Here, you should think about the museum as an environment, and perhaps how the attitudes cultivated by the work’s display in a...

...Sahebi, Sherwin Conrad vs. Achebe 1. From the tone of Conrad’s view of Africa, he gives it a dark and mysterious view of the forests is never ending and nothing is silent. 2. The detail he gives shows how African life never rests among the winding paths that rivers lead you and how he is always on his feet ready for the worst to happen. He talks about the air being thick and dense with the tall tress surrounding the area where sunshine was blocked from the forest bring a view of darkness and fear. 3. Achebe views Africa as a marvelous place where he thrives and people are happy living according to their belief. 4. The details given from her shows the happiness of the clan dancing to the ekwe, and corrects to a celebration of a man taking the title of his clan. 5. The reaction Achebe has to Conrad’s choices are anti-parallel to each other. In Achebe’s paragraph’s, differences of tone, syntax, and detail are shown. Achebe’s tone is very unique in the way she writes her paragraphs. In the first and second paragraph, she talks about the clans performing peaceful dances. “Then from the distance came the faint beating of the ekwe…” a peaceful dance from a distant clan. “It is an ozo dance,” the man said from themselves. Achebe uses the Ibo language to show a difference of tone to indicate how the clans would talk among themselves. Conrad’s style of tone is much more different from Achebe. He uses more of a suspenseful tone than anything. Conrad says “we penetrated deeper and deeper...

Scrap of Time

...your sense of logic. While Fink could very well be stating facts, she draws the reader in with emotion. From the title of the story to the very last sentence. I, in the next few paragraphs will open your eyes and show you how Ida Fink is undoubtedly appealing to your sense of emotion and not just simply describing a day in the life a Jew in World War II. It’s not that simple. Can someone possibly write a story about the Holocaust and not have an inkling of emotion? The answer is no. The title “Scrap of Time” to me is an emotional title, meaning a seemingly small part of a big, drawn out time in her life. Yet she holds onto it. Keeping this scrap in the back of her mind as a reminder of what once was. An unwanted scrap of the character’s life, a life of segregation, humiliation, and anguish. The narrator recalls, “We had different measure of time, we different ones, always different, always with that mark of difference that moved some of us to pride, and others to humility. We, who because of our difference were condemned once again, as we had been before in history, we were condemned once again during this time measured not in months nor by the rising and setting of the sun, but by a word- “action,” a word signifying movement, a word you would use about a novel or a play.”(Fink 4) This paragraph to me exerts a feeling of disgust, humility, and sarcasm because of the comparison of a pleasant action to that of a deathly one. she’s slighting the Germans for describing a massacre...
