One of the biggest arguments there is in today’s world is about paychecks. Everyone wants to be paid more, but here is the most massive case is, should professional athletes be paid more than our military members?
The men and women are serving in the military number in the hundreds of thousands; it would be nearly impossible to pay them all more than the highest paid athletes. Service members are government employees, whereas athletes are in the employees of an individual, corporatized franchises who can afford to pay them however much they'd like. Simply put, it is not a matter of should we pay the military better than athletes, but can we? Not everyone can be a professional athlete; A person has to have talent with the ability and hard

...Why the military is the perfect career choice. Eng112 Professor Why the military is the perfect career choice With the current economic situation, the need for a dependable and respectable job has never been more critical than it is now. Not many jobs have the capabilities to provide employees substantial pay with benefits to match; nonetheless, even a stable position anymore because of the economic crisis the world is currently in. The U. S. military is able to provide many benefits that these other jobs cannot even begin to guarantee. Military service not only comes with a sense of pride that stems from serving your country, but also financial stability, as well as educational and medical benefits that far surpass most civilian jobs out there. While having any good job can bring about a sense of self-respect and pride, there is no greater feeling than knowing that the job you get up every morning to do is saving and protecting countless lives of those that share the country you live in. Whether you are serving a tour in Iraq in support of the war, or just stationed at a shore installation in the states, you can know that you are doing your part for the country you live in and feel honor in doing so. It is a great feeling to know that even President Barack Obama refers to the U.S Military as “the strongest and most capable in the world” (President Obama and his Office of Management and Budget, 2009). Being a service member means getting to experience a sense of satisfaction...

Nfl Athletes Research Paper

...Should people playing a sport for an hour get paid millions of dollars? NFL players are paid $1.9 million, while military is only paid $80,000 a year. NFL players get paid more than the military; in fact NFL players get paid an astounding amount to simply protect a ball. I believe military should be paid more than NFL players because they protect people and a whole country by putting their lives on the line. To begin with, NFL players are paid millions of dollars because they’re expected to compete, win and be outstanding public figures to people. Also, NFL players get paid with ticket and sales from the merchandise purchases that football fans make. As you can see NFL players make more than the military. Admittedly, NFL players get...

Summary: Should NFL Players Be Paid

...A person makes 4,277.24 untill they get a position. In E-1 they make 18,802.8, and a E-2 makes 21,078. E-3 makes 23,558.4, E-4 makes 25,840.8, and E-5 makes 28,576.8. These are the positions that get high money but the nfl still makes way more money. The navy makes 2,972.24 a month, and then 35,666.80 a year. The football players should not get paid to go to practice, they should be only paid to play in the game. They get paid 6,900 per week to go to practice if every player didn't get paid to practice then that money could go to the military. The military paychecks need to go up by a couple thousand dollars a month. If they cut prices on the ticket to go to the games the military paychecks would go up by a couple hundred dollars. The Military makes enough money, that they can pay for what their family needs. The military earn what they make. The nfl earns what they make with the time the put into practicing and playing in the games. The money that they earn is more than enough but like is said they earn...

Price of Freedom

...spend months away from their families, leaving spouses responsible for maintaining households. Some military members do this for less than $20,000 per year (Department of Defense, 2013). For a family of 3, this is below the federal poverty line (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, 2014). Many of these families must resort to food stamps or government assistance in order to keep food on the table. Spouses must also struggle with inconsistency as military members are often ordered to move to different parts of the world, which affects their ability to hold steady work. Military service members deserve more pay than what they currently receive because many of their families struggle financially. Underpaying military members is nothing new to the United States. In the civil war, Union privates made $13 per month, while Confederate soldiers made just $11 per month (National Park Services, 2014). Because of the war, there was inevitable inflation. The cost of food skyrocketed during this time. One example would be bacon. In 1860, people could buy a pound of bacon for $1.25. Three years later, the same pound of bacon would’ve been priced at $10 per pound (Oliver, 2014). This created financial hardship for the families at home, which should never be expected from somebody who is willing to lay down their life for their country. There are some people who disagree that military members should be paid more. For example, the top enlisted member of the United States Marine Corps...

Armed Forces Taxes

...would not be able to pay for the insurance or funeral. The income that the Armed Forces makes is not enough to pay for a funeral or insurance, or even enough to survive on if they did not have a job. The paychecks that retired military officers from the navy are not enough to support a family of two or even three. Many of these retired personnel find jobs after they leave the military but most of the time they cannot get a good enough paying job to support them for another 40 or 50 years. Many of the military are right out of high school or college, which causes their potential income to decrease when they get older. What would a family do if the parent died in combat and the personal income of that soldier was having income tax taken out? The family would probably not be able to pay for the funeral on their own, which would put them in debt and worse off. If the personal income of a soldier were to be exempted from income tax then the family would be able to pay for the funeral without needing to be in debt for borrowing or loaning money from a bank. Looking at the danger that the military personnel are put in on a daily basis it should be noted that they risk their lives for their country and for the belief of freedom. Knowing a retired military personnel and being in...

Forced Military Service

...enlist in the military for a mandatory three years. There are many reasons why kids may not be able to go to college, but that should not give them an excuse to live their lives paycheck to paycheck without planning for their future. I believe the military is the perfect solution for this behavior. Money is always an issue with kids graduating high school and many can’t afford a four year university. Maybe the graduating student did not have the discipline or motivation to apply his/her self while the chance was there and now they are having a tough time getting accepted to a school. There is also the fact that many high school graduates have not decided what they want to do with their lives. In the following paper I will explain how the military can fix any of these problems. It is not cheap to go to a well known four year university, and even if one gets a loan, he/she would be paying it off for a long while after graduation. This could be a big reason some students graduating from high school do not attend college. Joining any military service would be an easy way to get anyone financially stable. After three years in, and most likely at least one deployment, one could have enough money for a vehicle and a place to live after getting out of the service. Also, if the student that could not afford to attend college after high school still wanted to further his/her education, there is plenty of money given to anyone trying to attend school after their military service. So after...

Each time I’ve attended this class I thought I knew it all, but now I realize there’s more to be taught. We all have different ideas. I feel that we each possess a certain skill that will benefit each and every one. I don’t really possess much of an academic history, except for what I’ve learned while being in the military. When I joined the service, I became an Electrician. It opened my eyes in the job industry. I realized there was more to life than working paycheck to paycheck. New Capitalism Analysis

...The Culture of the New Capitalism What is a structured society? Do we live in a structured society, some would say yes and others no? I would say no even though the economy has had a boost in the past we have also seen it crash. Examples that come to mind would be the great depression or even more currently the 2008 recession. Our government is just not stable its debt is much higher than what can be paid off. The current situation is more like robbing Peter to pay Paul but Paul is not getting paid. We are digging a hole that we can’t come out of, prices are rising and salaries are staying the same. Times are changing but nothing is changing with it people are living paycheck to paycheck. With the rise in healthcare and even basic needs it’s...

Glory

...This film was adapted from the letters from Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, the military officer in charge of the Fifty-fourth regiment. His letters showed the strength, courage, and motivation from the men in the Fifty-fourth company. This division was the first all black regiment in Massachusetts during the Civil War. This group consisted of African Americans willing to fight and die for the Union. At first the United States government was undecided about the use of black soldiers in the army and used them in demeaning tasks. Shaw was able to extort higher military officers to persuade them to use his regiment in combat at James Island, South Carolina, and Fort Wagner. His goal was to prove black men are as qualified as a white man on the battlefield. The film presented heroic transformations from men who had nothing to everything to gain. Glory proved an army of colored soldiers could be relied upon to fight with the same persistency and spirit as white soldiers. The remarkable scene of prayer between the soldiers showed there fight was bigger then fighting in war. There fight had to do with men of all colors being treated as equals. In addition, two memorable scenes were when Shaw declined his paycheck and demanded proper clothing for his division. He understood that the war had more to do with acceptence then winning or loosing a battle. The inspiration of Shaws loyalty to his men demonstrated he is a man of character in war and on the battlefield. This inspirational film established...

Alternative

...Alternative Financial Services The world of finance is a growing industry, which helps provide the needs for individuals and businesses alike. Within the field of finance, there are many different sectors such as commercial banking, insurance, investment banking, and most importantly, Alternative Financial Services. The term Alternative Financial Services is described on the Federal Deposit Corporations website as follows: Alternative Financial Services (AFS) is a term often used to describe the array of financial services offered by providers that operate outside of federally insured banks and thrifts (hereafter referred to as "banks"). Check-cashing outlets, money transmitters, car title lenders, payday loan stores, pawnshops, and rent-to-own stores are all considered AFS providers. To sum things up, Alternative Financial Services are basically ways to receive money without using a more traditional way, such as getting a loan from a commercial bank. The different [I would delete “different” – seems repetitive with “incredibly diverse”] types of Alternative Financial Services are incredibly diverse, often described as a melting pot of providers. These different services include car title lenders, pawnshops, rent-to-own stores, and last but not least, payday loan stores. Alternative Financial Services have become increasingly popular since the Great Recession, mainly due to the strict credit regulations among commercial banks. Due to its deep roots in Chattanooga...
