For the Perfect Shot Everyone has a hobby or something that interests them, from sports to art and everything in between. For people like me, the thing that may strike interest comes in the form of archery. To become a great archer it takes many skills such as patience, focus, and determination; those three things also have great importance in everyday life skills as well. Aside from patience, focus and determination, if a person wants to become a great archer they need to have a lot more skills than just those three. Learning how to shoot a bow takes a lot of time to acquire necessary skills, such as which type of bow to choose, the parts of that specific bow, and how to properly shoot the bow.
In a study published by Nature, the first bow and arrows existed over 71,000 years ago …show more content…
One could describe a longbow as a simple, straight piece of carved wood with a string (Johnson, Bows). Different from a recurve bow and compound bow, longbows do not have any extra accessories, like a sight or arrow rest. When it originated in Europe, the longbow consisted of different local woods, including yew (Johnson, Bows). However, once archery became popular in America, “Osage orange became a popular wood for bow makers,” known as bowyers (Johnson, Bows). Today, most bows consist of hickory, lemonwood, and bamboo in longbow construction (Johnson, Bows). For longbows the bowyers have to carefully carve the bow’s limbs so that when the archer draws back the bow it stays even. With this type of bow a strip of leather usually wraps around the bow as the grip (Johnson, Bows). This type of bow does not have an arrow rest, so the arrow will either rest on the back of the archer’s hand or a narrow shelf cut into the bow above the grip (Johnson, Bows). If a person wants a traditional feel and style of an all-wood bow, then a longbow would suit them

...Kevin Lin Mr. Ross 4th Period Chamber Honors Credit Research Paper Brahms and Paganini Research Paper Paganini was born in Genoa, at the time a geographic principality within the kingdom of Italy. Although Paganini is well known for his virtuosic caprices on the violin, paganini also played the guitar as a major cornerstone of his musical achievement, as well as the mandolin, which he learned from his father. Although one would expect Paganini to have a musical upbringing, his father was actually a trader who, due to the lack of success in his trading career, supplemented the family’s income with mandolin playing on the streets of Genoa. Thus, Paganini’s early life found him searching for violin lessons from local violin teachers since his...

Camp Bow Wow

...Camp Bow Wow Corporate Budgeting: Final Project My companies name is Camp Bow Wow, which is an overnight boarding facility for mainly dogs but other animals are welcome. The company was started in 2009 when the owner (Kasandra, myself) decided to become the owner of a dog named Buddy. All was well until Kasandra had a vacation planned and could not find any boarding facilities to meet the standards she was looking for. She had also recently inherited a large some of money in the amount of about 200,000 from the passing of her grandparents who also shared the love of animals with her. Kasandra used that money to find a place she could live and turn into a boarding facility and luckily she was able to find the perfect house with lots of land in the middle of town, so she got to work and the company shared its grand opening with the community in spring of 2011. The company has successfully been around for almost 3 years now offering products such as boarding, bathing, nail trims, and other products to ensure your animal is safe and happy. The location is right in the middle of the town of Appomattox so it’s perfect for people who are traveling in either direction and is known for their non-traditional animal boarding facilities, while targeting mainly dog breeds the facility is open to animals of several kinds. The reason we say its non-traditional is because the animals are not just kept in kennels all day and walked a few times unless requested by the owner, but actually...

Global Business Etiquette

...Going My Way Could Mean the Highway Zachary I. Knutson Business Practices in the Global Market - #2125 Prof. Creed Final Paper 04/29/2015 As shared in the Introduction section of the textbook “Kiss, Bow, or Shake Hands” by Terri Morrison and Wayne Conaway, one of the most important lessons to learn in doing business internationally is that “communication always takes place between individuals, not cultures.” (Morrison pg. ix) We live in an age today where information and knowledge that is almost instantaneous is gradually blending the lines between countries doing business and the individual cultures that those businesses cater to. Today, more foreigners are entering U.S. schools for education and that will only continue to blur the lines between understanding specific business dealings – and understanding how those business dealings will work in a foreign country. If the playing field of business is becoming more and more aligned – where do the missteps happen in regards to doing international business? And if the communication goes successfully between the individuals creating the deal – shouldn’t that be the ‘green light’ for success? My argument is No. Because once the communication is successful in establishing the opportunity to do business internationally – it will then not be in the correct handshakes or presentation of business cards that success will be found – now it’s time to communicate with the culture. Here is where international business could go...

Oedipus

...Brock Bilger ENGL 102 Research Paper October 14, 2011 Outline: I. The introduction and brief statement about the drama II. Discuses the theme of the paper and how it relates to the drama III. The Tragic hero definition and how that applies to the play IV. The big revaltion in the play that Oedipus sees V. Talk about Apollos power and the meaning of that and conclude to paper with that. The first criterion of a Greek tragedy is that the protagonist be a good person; doubly blessed with a good heart and noble intention. Sophocles reveals immediately at the start of the play that Oedipus is such a man. As is common in the Greek tragedy Oedipus is also an aristocrat. Born of the King and Queen of Thebes he is of true nobility. Oedipus on the other-hand believes his parents are the King and Queen of Corinth. Oedipus was abandoned as a baby and adopted by them. Because that information is known to the audience and not to Oedipus prior to the start of the play, it is a perfect example of tragic irony because when he declares that he will find the murderer he is the man that he pursues. Here he is told by Tiresias,” I say you are the murderer you hunt” (1235). The theme of Oedipus the King is not clear-cut. The theme in this tragic play seems to be you can‘t escape your fate. Contentment leads to ignorance as Oedipus lends fate a hand in his bitter end. This trait is touched-on in these lines spoken by Creon. “Look at you, sullen in yielding, brutal in...

Gassenheimer Bleu Ribbon Chocolates is a small regional manufacturer of high-quality chocolate that sells its products via trade accounts, corporate-owned stores, and online/mail. Historically, the company has not engaged in strategic planning, as demand was greater than manufacturing capabilities. The trend toward healthier foods and the poor economy, however, has hurt sales. The owners must determine their new strategic direction. Should they change the product line, in-source manufacturing, reduce the number of companyowned stores, increase sales to retail outlets, lay off workers, or hope the health craze ends soon and the economy turns around? Bleu Ribbon Chocolates, a small manufacturer well-known in the Midwest for producing and retailing high-quality chocolates, was at a crossroads. Historically, Bleu Ribbon Chocolates has not engaged in strategic planning. Management saw no need; everything had been going fine. In the past, demand always had been greater than what the company could produce, and geographic expansion was not a goal. Unfortunately, by 2010, the external environment had changed significantly, and the current owners of Bleu Ribbon Chocolates found they needed to determine a new strategic direction. Today, more consumers prefer healthy food products. In fact, organic products comprise 8 percent of the confectionary...

Newton's Heretical Beliefs

...deist: he indeed believed in a god . It was only reasonable to in this entire perfect splendor. While writing the Principia: "Such a wonderful uniformity in the planetary system must be allowed the effect of choice". Newton insisted that divine intervention was required for the Universe to function, although Snobelen believe that he warned against using this ideology to view the Universe as a mere machine. He said, "Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain who set the planets in motion. God governs all things and knows all that is or can be done." Newton was indeed a pious man. On a slight tangent: in his Principia Newton says that a “Hypotheses, whether metaphysical or physical, whether of occult qualities or mechanical, have no place in experimental philosophy. As expected out of a scientist, the man relies on data to draw conclusions and theorems. But when data cannot be obtained or identified, Newton calls upon a higher power: God himself: “Eternal and Infinite, Omnipotent and Omniscient; . . . he governs all things, and knows all things that are or can be done. . . . We know him only by his most wise and excellent contrivances of things, and final causes; we admire him for his perfections; but we reverence and adore him on account of his dominion.” Sometimes, and this is still true to this day, science cannot not solve certain things. Newton knew this, and knew when to bow his head and accept that things, at least during his time, cannot be explained...
