...This class has helped me learned many things about what to expect in college. The first thing I learned in class was the location of the Writing Center. When I moved to college, I did not have a clue where any of the buildings were located. However, I soon learned where the Writing Center is located because we had a class there. It is important for me to know where the Writing Center is located because it is likely I will need to go there while I am in college. Another thing I learned in class was how to form an appropriate email. In class we had an etiquette email assignment. I always knew how to write an email, but I never knew how I should address a professor in college. I learned that for this class I could say “Dear Kate”, but if I emailed...

...I can’t believe it’s the end of the semester already, 2016 is going by fast! I had to take this course because it was one of the courses I had to take for my degree. As I sit back and reflect on this course, I am smiling because this course makes me feel confident that I have chosen the correct career path for myself. There were many valuable concepts I learned in this class that will be beneficial to me in the future. First, the feedback you gave me on the essays we completed in this class will help me become a better writer in the future. It’s important to write well if you want to be a writer in the future. Your feedback was clear and helped me see what I was doing wrong. I love that you were strict on grading the essays. Second, I enjoyed...

...Growing up I always excelled in english and writing papers was a breeze for me. I would always get an easy A without much effort, but this course provided me with a real challenge. I found that the grading was much more critical and the content expected was at a much higher level than ever before. However, all of the challenges I faced in this class proved to beneficial to me as I did end up getting a better grade with each paper. This class brought me many great experiences and taught me countless lessons, some that will last a lifetime. One of most valuable lessons this class taught me was how to manage my time more effectively. I suffer from a bad case of procrastination, but the amount of time allotted for each of these essays didn’t give me time to do much procrastinating. I became much better at just writing instead of sitting and thinking what I should say. Then after I wrote my essay I went back and edited the content of my paper to bring it up to college level writing. I also found paper rater to be a big help with this because it helped to transform my high school level writing into something much more mature through the vocab tool it provides. All of these factors helped me to overcome my second nature of putting things off and I even have started...

...There aren't many skills in this course I could bring into this class but the ones I could bring are my independent skills, my hard-working, and my enjoyment of writing. I’ve always worked hard during this course, always trying my best and not giving up. I've fairly enjoyed this class because I get to express my own opinions and thoughts and there's no such thing called the wrong answer. Independent work is what suits me the best when it comes to writing, I liked always being in charge of my own work and being able to know what mistakes I made as an individual.I personally know I'm not the best writer in the whole world but I also know I'm not the worst ,.. well hopefully... The stuff I need to work on in this class is my public speaking skills,...

...this year I thought I was prepared for the freshman classes that I had heard about. Walking into Newton North on the first day of school I thought that everyone would stay in their own friend groups, my best friend would stay my best friend, and nothing would change. I was wrong. Throughout this year I think I changed a lot and strayed from who I thought I was going to be. I was confident in the beginning of the year, but not just with myself but with my friend group and my classes. Though my confidence with my new friend group has stayed the same I've began to question myself and who I was and am. I compare myself to others and I tried to be like everyone else. I also realized how hard I had to push myself to keep the...

...This class wasn’t exactly what I expected, I was not ready and misjudged myself. The way I write isn’t any different, in my opinion, besides the fact I think more about what I’m writing if it's good, and having someone proofread it. This class showed me that I am not a writer, and don’t want to be one. I did not grow as much as expected as a writer, I thought I was going to get better with comma splices, but no improvement. I could improve more on my sentence structure, paragraph transitions, word choice, and my ideas could be more organized. I don’t know how I will compensate for this in the future, I honestly don’t. I guess when I have someone check it, to go over it with me on what I’m struggling with. From what I did learn, it would...

...expectations were that I would only have to write my college essays. Even more, I came into the class expecting to make my college essay the best it could be and that was it. I didn’t expect to have write any other essays, but in the end it worked out for the better. Throughout the semester, I was able to develop and nurture my writing skills. Not only was I writing to get into college, but also to prepare for college. However, my overall approach to writing has changed for the better since first beginning Writing Seminar. At first, I based my writing on the basic 5 paragraph technique, but as I progressed through the year, I realized that writing doesn’t really have a specific technique, but instead revolves around the idea of being able to flow. After basing my writing on flow instead of...

...honest, I do not enjoy writing. I find it tiring, frustrating and immensely difficult. I struggle with fully conveying what I am trying to say, and find all the little rules infuriating. I get why this class is important though. As someone who struggles with writing, it is important that I develop the skills to properly make an argument, research, or form a proper paragraph. And I legitimately think this class has taught me a number of valuable lessons when it comes to writing. The first thing is clarity. Before this class, I had the bad habit of artificially extending my essays by using fancy-sounding convoluted language. This worked in high school, I was able to get away with this method in order to artificially extend the length of my paper and make myself seem more intelligent than I actually was. When I started this class, I quickly learned that doing that was a bad idea. Over the course of the quarter, I have tried to be much more concise and to the point with my writing. This can be seen especially well in my research essay, where I try to avoid unnecessarily repeating myself and get right to the point after bringing in data. While I still do fluff out my...

...Although I am not a very big fan of writing and reading, I learned a lot of things in literacy class. I learned how to write journals, opinion essays, read a news report and also worked with some difficult vocabulary. I found the news report writing very hard to write because I have always struggled with writing news reports. Along the way I learned how to do it so it became easier and easier. In the starting of the class I was not a big fan of reading books while I went along I started reading more books and I actually liked it a lot. Opinion essay was never a huge problem for me to write but it could always use improvement and in the class it did get improved. My goals at the starting of this class were that I improve my reading and writing...

...The last time I took a series of test was last semester, they were my final exams. The way that I decided on how much time to spend studying for each subject was based on the grades that I had received in the class and how I did on test. If I had a class that I was strongly passing with an A, then that class went at the bottom of my studying list on account of I was already doing good and I would need to focus my time elsewhere on another subject. Same concept I used for if I had a low grade in the class such as a C, I know that I would need more time to look over the material so I would study that subject first. As I learned in my Econ 1102 class Economics is the study of choices. For instance in the future when I am faced with a decision...

...Second Semester Final Exam: Portfolio A: Narrative/Descriptive Writing Parasailing (Vignette) Narrative and descriptive writing is the writing style I enjoy the most. The vignette I wrote about is a story that happened to me when I was younger and this kind of writing allows me to relive this memory on paper. I find this kind of writing easier to write and easy to relate to because it’s all about me. It is harder for me to write and relate to a book that we read in class since it isn’t about my personal life. This kind of writing style helps me reflect on the something I learned because I have seen how much I have grown this school year based off of what I wrote about and my writing style. This kind of writing style allows me to describe...

...McMahonUNIV104-1402B-18: Academic and Career SuccessJune 22, 2014 | When I first enrolled into this course, I felt all different kinds of emotions and wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from UNIV104. I would have thoughts in my head leading up to this class spinning in my head every night before the first day. Some thoughts like, “Maybe this will be my best class!” and “This class will be easy because I love writing!” were good thoughts that helped me boost my confidence about my college course. Other thoughts loomed in my head as well such as, “Do I really belong in this class?”, and “I’m probably going to fail this class with just one assignment!” Such thoughts as these brought my spirits and gave me a pessimistic outlook on this class. But now that I am done with this class, I find myself to be more at ease with myself and have a newfound confidence in the way that write. Writing has been an important form of expression for me. I find myself to be very soft spoken and speaking verbally is usually difficult for me because I can’t always seem to find the right words to say. This has led me to be very shy in class. With writing, I feel that I am more expressive and have more control over what I want to say. Writing is therapeutic for me, whatever I cannot say directly I can just pour out my heart and soul. I have been keeping a journal for the past eight years and it has done wonders for me. I find myself not only a better person for it but it also serves as...
