How we apply and process information is all different; and because we are all unique, so is our way of learning. We are all not alike. We see the world as it make sense to us individually. We all will approach the same situation or task through different learning techniques. Our personal learning style determines our preferred way of learning, based on our personalities, attitudes, and behaviors. There are many different types of learning styles, such as: Bodily-Kinesthetic, where we usually use our bodies or physical movements and sense of touch to learn; Verbal-Linguistic, usually when we learn by relating words and language both written and spoken; Visual-Spatial, which relies on visualization, such as colorful designs, patterns, shapes, and pictures; Logical-Mathematical, this skill usually is learned by problem-solving or meeting a new challenge; Musical Intelligence, using our recognition of tone and sounds. Such sounds can include human voice, or musical instruments; Intrapersonal, relying on person to person encounter; Interpersonal, such as our feelings and self reflection; and Naturalistic, where nature helps relax and free our minds to comprehend the learning materials. No one learning style is better than the other. Some of us have a mixture of personal learning styles. Information and technology changes every day so by knowing our learning style, we will be able to apply ourselves to the changes in life. Your learning style is essentially your working style. (Keys to College Studying, 2002, Page 39) If we know our personal learning style, we can maximize our learning. Other positives to knowing our personal learning style can include understanding our instructor better, managing our studies, and even planning career realistically. There are tests and quizzes we can take to help us determine which learning style is our personal learning style(s).

...PERSONAL LEARNING STYLE AND THEORY PAPER Personal Learning Style and Theory Paper Charolette Giddings University of Phoenix PSYCH 538 Lifespan Development and Learning July 13, 2009 Personal Learning Style and Theory Paper One of the most interesting things a person can ever do is sit and figure out what they love out of life. It could be reading, dancing, studying, making crafts, playing sports and so forth. Whatever it is, it describes that person. As for myself, I am a round-about person that enjoys the smaller things in life. The following paragraphs will explain my individual learning styles, my strength, opportunity for growth, and an improvement strategy that will raise my areas of weakness. A learning[->0] style is a student's consistent way of responding to and using ways in their life to help with the context of learning. “A learning style is said to be the composite of characteristic cognitive, affective, and physiological factors that serve as relatively stable indicators of how a learner perceives, interacts with, and responds to the learning environment” (Webster, 2006). I believe that learning styles are those in educational conditions under which a student is most likely to learn. Thus, learning styles are not really concerned with "what" learners learn, but rather "how" they prefer to learn. There are 7 different learning styles that are described throughout this particular assessment: Visual, Social, Physical...

Personal Thinking Styles

...Personal Thinking Styles Based on the information presented in the survey, it is clear to see that my personal thinking style is highest for my affiliative style and approach. This is primarily because I like to ensure that I have support whenever I make my way in a test whether it is on an academic level or on a personal basis. My ability to forge these relationships with my cohorts is something that I value very much as I’m a strong believer that you learn more from the environments around you as opposed to a single textbook or other method of self-improvement or educational medium. My second highest percentile is from my ability to be encouraging on a humanistic level. I believe that the fact that I’m a mother comes into play here, and I often try to see every person a child of God and due to this, I make it a conscious effort in my everyday life to make sure that everyone is pleased and can work on the same level to get a task completed as expected. Unquestionably, my limiting style that is working against me and reduces my overall effectiveness stems from my yearning to be a perfectionist and to complete a task to the highest standard. Through implying such a method, I feel that I have subconsciously worked to limit my professional effectiveness in organizations and have not be able to develop as quickly as I’d like as I am constantly held back by tasks which need to be completed and sent out in a quick and specific time frame rather than something that is slow and tenuous...

Personal Leadership Style

...PERSONAL LEADERSHIP STYLE 2 Who am I now as a leader? The conclusion that I have come to is that I have many leadership styles. I love this quote, “The best leaders are clear. They continually light the way, and in the process, let each person know that what they do makes a difference.” (Source Unknown, www.quotelady.com/subjects/leadership.html). I have embraced this quote as the way I would like others to view me as a leader. One of the strongest points I have is my heart for serving others. Robert Greenleaf, in his essay, The Servant Leader (1970), says, "It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead. The difference manifests itself in the care taken by the servant--first to make sure that other people's highest priority needs are being served." Servant leadership means sincerely caring about the welfare and development of the people that follow them. I would not be in the Human Service profession if I was not a Servant Leader. This is one of God’s gifts that He has bestowed upon me. I try to make it always about the other person and try to help them reach their goals and be successful. People who are successful as leaders know where they are going and they have a clearly defined objective that they have a passion to achieve. I feel that God has given me the objective and I will and am doing everything in my power to achieve the end goal. Leadership is not something you can demand,...

Personal Leadership Style

...Personal Leadership Style Rita Tyeptanar Rasmussen College Author Note This paper is being submitted on July 26, 2015, for Professor De La Cruz H300/HSA3110 Section 01 Introduction to Healthcare Administration course. Have you ever been to a job interview and been asked “What is your leadership style” and “What is your strength or weaknesses with your leadership style, and how would you improve your weaknesses”? Well in this paper I am going to go over what I feel is my leadership style, what my strength and weaknesses are and how I would improve my weaknesses. This is all very good information to know very well as you enter into a new career because when you are asked this you will be able to answer the interviewer strongly and confident without any hesitation, which in turn could make you win the job over. When doing my research on leadership styles I have found that I am actually a combination of two leadership styles, affiliative leader and democratic leader. An Affiliative leader is someone who works to create emotional bonds that bring a feeling of belonging to the organization. This type of leader has the frame of mind that people come first. I have always been the type of person that really cares about other people, and their needs and wants over my own and I feel that would reflect the type of leader that I would become. I also feel though that I would be a democratic leader as well because if I need to I am able to pull everyone together and get their...

Personal Leadership Style

...Personal Leadership Style (AS IS) Introduction Everyone wants to be a good leader in life. This paper reflects my personal thoughts on my leadership. Completing the questions under the nine components of Campbell’s leadership descriptor has helped me to understand what a good leader is. I will talk about how my experiences in different societal settings has helped in shaping my views on what a good leader is and how a good leader needs to understand the diverse nature of individuals in the world. According to King, Altman & Lee (2011), knowledge on leadership helps an individual find his/her way out of drift, or even avoid it altogether. Understanding my leadership profile has helped me work from a place of strength as well as understand gaps in my set of skills (King, Altman & Lee 2011). It was not until I Completed the leadership profile section in chapter five of the “discovering the leader in you” workbook that I was able to improve my self-awareness, understand my strengths and areas that I needed to work on. Living and working in Nigeria where there is a lot of power distance and required acts of respect to elders (bosses, older people in ages and ranks), I learned to only deal with people with a high level of respect and fear. Respect in the sense that, you could not look at your elders or bosses in the eye, must always refer to them as “ma” or “sir”, cannot speak to them except you are asked to speak. Then, I came to the USA and it was an almost opposite experience...

Personal Style Inventory

...Ryan Conrad Personal Style Inventory Signature Code: ESFP My first letter in the signature was an E for Extrovert. I know that being an extrovert has been a great asset to me at my work at Target. On a normal 8 hour shift I come into contact with well over a hundred guests and will most likely interact with at least 30-40 asking where something is or if we have a particular product. As it is the Christmas season now I need to be extremely helpful with guest as well as be outgoing enough to ask a puzzled looking guest if I can “help them find anything today?” As well as the many guests I help, I have many coworkers; we have many new hired on because of the holidays, and many I don’t know their names. In order to work most efficiently and effectively, I need to introduce myself constantly so there is no confusion with “hey you’s.” Being an extrovert definitely helps with this kind of working environment. Of course, with how many guests and coworkers I come into contact there are plenty who are introverts and slow the process. Although being extroverted has helped me greatly in my retail job, it hasn’t helped me so much in day-to-day talking with people and a lot of sales associates. I know I tend to ramble a lot and when I’m making a purchase I tend to think aloud and give out more information then I really intend or need too. I recently purchased a laptop computer at best buy and the sales associate there had asked me what I would most likely be using it for, and instead...

My Personal Learning Style

...My Personal Learning Assessment Virginia Tucker AET: 525 February 26th, 2012 Deborah Hatfield My Personal Learning Assessment Many factors can affect a student’s ability to perform successfully in the classroom. One of these factors is his or her personal learning style. According to Howard Gardner, there are seven distinct learning styles (Gardner, 1985). The first of these styles is known as the “Verbal-Linguistic” Learner. A student with this type of learning style prefers to learn by using words and being vocal in class. He or she will use stories and enjoy question and answer sessions in class settings (Gardner, 1985). As with any learning style, there are problems that may arise with this particular learning style. Some examples include: 1. Difficulty with online classroom learning environments- These students strive on one-on-one interaction with both the instructor and other students. Not having this could greatly affect their learning ability. 2. Not working well with shy individuals in a team setting- “Verbal-Linguistic” learners need social interaction to fully learn a subject being presented to them in a class. These students may burden and or overshadow quieter students who prefer to work in a quieter environment. The second learning style is an “auditory” learner. An “auditory” learner relies on his or her hearing to succeed in the classroom. These students are very particular about their choice of words when speaking inside the classroom...

Personal Style of Music Paper

...Reagan Rooney English 101 09/16/2015 It has been a few years since I have listened to music just for the pure pleasure of listening to music. As I’ve been racking my brain day in and day out for the past two weeks, I figured out that I did actually used to enjoy listening to music for the following reasons: the lyrics, the vocals and the happy memories that would come rushing back when I would hear a certain song. There were many songs that I would listen to over and over again because of the lyrics in the song and the message that the song portrayed to me. Christina Aguilera’s song titled “Beautiful”, to me, really portrays an uplifting and powerful message: You are beautiful no matter what they say Words can't bring you down....oh no You are beautiful in every single way Yes, words can't bring you down, oh, no So don't you bring me down today... I think that is a really important message for everyone to know. People in this world can be really cruel and hurtful, especially to younger people who may not fit the “perfect body” profile. Another song I love simply because of the lyrics is Mariah Carey’s “One Sweet Day”. I believe the song’s lyrics can be really helpful to someone during a time of loss: And I know you're shining down on me from heaven Like so many friends we've lost along the way And I know eventually we'll be together One sweet day Another song that I really love just for the lyrics and the simple message that the song portrays is a song...
