...You Decide Scenario: Week 3 Detecting and preventing insider threats is its own discipline, with its own dynamics. If you put these countermeasures in place, you can reduce the threat dramatically. First, you can use an IP packet-filtering router. This type of router permits or denies the packet to either enter or leave the network through the interface on the basis of the protocol, IP address, and the port number. The protocol may be TCP, UDP, HTTP, SMTP, or FTP. The IP address under consideration would be both the source and the destination addresses of the nodes. The port numbers would correspond to the well-know port numbers (Vacca, 2009). Packet filtering lets you control data transfer based on the address the data is, the address the data is going to, and the session and application protocols being used to transfer data. The main advantage of packet filtering is leverage. It allows you to provide, in a single place, particular protections for an entire network. Consider the Telnet service. If you disallow Telnet by turning off the Telnet server on all your hosts, you still have to worry about someone in your organization installing a new machine (or reinstalling an old one) with the Telnet server turned on. On the other hand if Telnet is not allowed by your filtering router, such a new machine would be protected right from the start, regardless of whether or not its Telnet server was actually running. Another advantage of a packet filtering router is that...

...Martina Korpue Introduction to Ethics Professor Fumerton November 30, 2012 “Ethical judgments are social instruments” In his essay “The Emotive Meaning of Ethical Terms”, Charles Leslie Stevenson (C.L. Stevenson), a professor of philosophy who taught at the University of Michigan, theorizes that the function of ethical statements is not to describe, but is rather to prescribe. He claims that language carries a type of meaning which he calls ‘emotive meaning’, rather than descriptive meaning and uses many examples of the term ‘good’ to establish his belief. He aims at showing that the notion of ‘good’ is equivalent to taking favor of something (“X is good”= “I like X”). Stevenson’s in-depth analysis of the concept of ‘good’ ultimately shows his readers the reality that the disagreement over whether something is good or not is just simply a disagreement in attitude. The first method used in determining the emotive meaning of ethical statements is to first address ethical questions in answering the question ‘Is X good?’ by what Stevenson calls ‘substitution’. He explains that in order to help understand this concept, the question must be substituted by a question that is free from ambiguity and confusion (Stevenson 370). It would not make sense to substitute this question with one that is irrelevant or with one that is the same as the question being assessed. He uses an example of substitution with the statement ‘Is X pink with yellow trimmings?’ This statement clearly has...

...Shalonda Mitchell Professor: Dr. Paul Hackman ENG 215 Research and Writing January 15, 2013 My first experience with persuasive writing was in the fifth grade. I had to write a persuasive letter to the school principal, in an attempt to convince her that I should be chosen to represent Westside Elementary School’s fifth grade class at the annual Math Bee. Of the four fifth grade classes; myself and two other fifth grade students were chosen due to our high scores on the statewide math test. I saw this as an opportunity to finally represent my class because I have always loved to write; as well as, I really enjoyed math at that level. In my letter I chose to remind my principal how well prepared for class I am every day. Each day I showed up with all the items listed on my learning log. At the beginning of every school year each student was given a laminated learning log for their grade level. We were instructed to attach the learning logs to the front of our notebooks, as a reminder of what we should have when we arrive for school in the morning. Each day I came prepared with everything listed on the learning log. I also reminded my principal how polite and respectful I was to both she and my fellow classmates. I enjoyed school and I knew the importance of good behavior and respect. My parents would often remind me that what I did outside of the home reflects who they are and if I behaved poorly or in a disrespectful manner there would be consequences. Finally...

People should be assured that this program is going to be beneficial to their children. In order to make people assured about this program logics are kept. We can keep various logics that could support the message. ...Persuasive Messages COMM/470 Persuasive Messages The growth of e-commerce (EC) has changed the way we communicate and the way the world works. Online retailing – e-tailing – is one such EC derivative that has seen tremendous growth as increasing numbers of consumers migrate to the internet to do their shopping. E-tailing presents unique challenges and opportunities for sellers as they vie for consumer dollars in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Among these challenges is the need to effectively and persuasively communicate with consumers to induce desired behavior. Here, we examine three communication behaviors inherent in e-tailing, explain how each enables e-commerce, and analyze each using the communications process. Finally, we will develop a sample persuasive message. E-tailing Behaviors It is critical for any business – e-tailer or otherwise – to attract new customers, induce the purchase, and encourage repeat business. It is within this framework that we discuss the following e-tailing behaviors. E-tailers have a variety of strategies to attract prospective customers. Among them is internet advertising. Forms of internet advertising include featured link status on web search results pages, paying the search host, such as Google, for each click their link receives. Other forms include pop-up ads, banner ads, interstitials, and email marketing (Turban et al, 2008). In each case, the sender’s (e-tailer) purpose is to drive traffic...

...Sample Persuasive Message University of Phoenix COMM470 Persuasive Message The product I selected to illustrate regarding persuasive messages and e-commerce is a well known cleaning product named the “Swivel Sweeper”. The Swivel Sweeper is mostly sold through the internet and television infomercials that state facts and claims about the sweeper product. ...the capital resources for an existent product. I am writing to my boss through email because that is how everyone is communicating presently and both of us will be able to keep a copy of my proposal. The channel of communication I would use would be to send an email to my boss. This would allow me to highlight the product as well as detail the benefits of using this product over existing products. I would also list the benefits it offers to the company including the price point, which would allow us to pass the savings on to our customers. I have a new product that I cannot wait for you to see. It is the new prototype for everything that involves music from now until decades upon decades of time. This new item is called an iPod. You can store over thousands of hours of music in this device. There are capital resources I need to complete this to sell on the market. We need Micron, Samsung, Toshiba and Asahi Glass to make the screen for the iPod touch. I will contact the electronic department to get the memory, battery, and all the other needed things to complete it. ...letter which summarizes your presentation. Would this be a persuasive letter? Why? One of the best ways to follow up a sales call or meeting is to write your prospect the next day and thank him or her for their time. This is one of the simplest and most effective ways to stand out from your competition and reconfirm your interest in the relationship you’re building. The purpose of this letter in my opinion is to thank your prospective client for the meeting and to reinforce the potential relationship with you a valuable partner. The follow up letter is only to reinforce the relationship and the spirit of cooperation, I do not believe the letter should be an attempt to close with your prospect. Speak in terms of possibilities of a successful partnership and plans for a follow up meetings where you pour on the charm and persuasiveness to close the sale. 2. ...Persuasive Communication Amy McBroom February 9,2015 Business 211 Brigitte Culberson-Austin Communication is the process of exchanging information between an individual. In a business setting there is a proper form of communication called persuasive communication. Persuasive communication is the process of transmitting information to another person, next making sure the individual understands and agrees to the information. For this method of communication to be effective, one may disguise the information to make it more believable. Persuasive communication is most effective used in these types of scenarios such as manager to manager, manager to employee, or department-to-department. There are four methods of communication with different levels of persuasiveness. First, face-to-face communication is between two people at the same location. During a face-to-face conversation, the sender and receiver can read each other’s body language. The sender should be confident in relaying the message; this will show the importance of the message. Active listening also plays a role in face-to-face conversations. The sender can listen to feedback from the receiver of the message. This form of communication is proven to be the most effective because the sender and receiver can use body language and the voice to interpret the message. Second, a phone call is between two people located at different locations. During the phone call the...

Started by a motivated entrepreneur and his partner, your company now has just over 200 employees and is still growing. The owner wishes to support some kind of philanthropic program and asks you to conduct research and report back via email with your brief recommendation of TWO (2) POSSIBLE philanthropic programs/charities to support. He wants to present these two possibilities to the leadership team, and he wants WELL-ANALYZED options that the team can discuss. ASSIGNMENT—READ CAREFULLY, this has changed from the previous semester’s assignment: I. Your assignment is to investigate possible philanthropic organizations and projects that you think your company should support. II. Choose TWO (2) of these and analyze how they might suit your company’s mission and values—and how they might motivate employees to get involved. Your owner wishes to make his corporate philanthropy much more meaningful than just giving money. III. WRITE a persuasive, concise, and businesslike e-mail to the owner, making a strong and convincing case for your two (2) choices. Make sure you support your recommendations with specific evidence as to why these are strong, viable, and positive choices for your company (e.g., how financially efficient they are—how much of every dollar goes to their programs; how these fit the type of work and/or...

...business communication. I will discuss: what role business communication plays in my day-to-day activities at work and how it helps me manage my daily work activities; what trends I have seen in my current and previous work and what message types have resulted from these trends. Being in outside sales, efficient business communication is impairative. Because most of my communication is done view cell phone using email, text, fax and voicemail; when I do get a chance to meet with my assistant in the office, we need to get the most amount of work accomplished in a short amount of time. We also communicate after hours by email with daily sales reports, suspended billing (missing paperwork for billing) and unconfirmed deliveries (unable to set up patient for various reasons). I try to be efficient with my time. When sitting in an office waiting to meet with a Doctor, I text my assistant to get updates, email and fax orders to her for processing and monitor my calendar for follow up tasks. If management needs to communicate with us, they usually email our corporate email for follow up after hours, or if it’s urgent they will text. All of these would be considered messages that inform and consist of memos, status reports, and updated information. I also conduct a lot of external communication: messages that persuade, sales calls, follow up calls, used to garner a meeting and thank you letters. This is my primary business communication for sales purposes. Sales calls and follow...
