Dog Owners Should Be Held Responsible For Their Dogs Violent Actions In nearly all instances of serious and fatal dog attacks, the owners, and in some cases, authorities blame the attack on the environment or the actions of the victim. (“Pitbull Owners- Dangerous Dogs”) In the article “Pitbull Owners- Dangerous Dogs” it talks about the environment and the victim being one of the key factors in a dog attack, yet they do not talk about how the owner is involved in the attack. Although dogs have their own set of animal instincts and are sometimes considered wild animals, the owner(s) of a violent dog should be held legally responsible for their dog’s violent actions.
The history of pit bulls is a very two sided topic. Some say in the past pit …show more content…
If a person decides to take up the responsibility of owning a dog, they should know what precautions to take and when to take them. In an article about a man being attacked by the family pitbull his girlfriend states that they knew the dog had some violent tendencies yet never took care of them (“DogsBite Blog”). The family should have taken care of their pit bull properly and trained their dog to be more obedient. The family could have avoided this attack if they would have taken the proper precautions in owning their dog. The owner of the dog should have an overall idealization of their dog's personality if they are to own the dog. In an article it states “Some states states impose what is known as “Strict Liability” (“Dog Bites and Animal Attack Overview”) This means even if the owner did not know their animal was dangerous they are still held responsible for the dogs actions. It also means that whether or not the owner did anything to stop the attack from happening they are still held responsible for the dogs …show more content…
For example if the owner adequately warned other people that the animal was dangerous and took measures to keep the animal away from people, a person who ignored the owners warnings and was injured by the animal might not successfully sue the owner” (“Dog Bites and Animal Attack Overview”)
If the owner is aware of the dog's tendencies and continues on to warn others about the dog and the person does not listen then in some cases the owner will not be held responsible for the dogs actions. If the owner is continuously trying to warn others and taking action to prevent the other person from get harmed then the person could be held responsible. Even though dogs can act on their instincts and the owner can try to hide the dog's breed name if they are violent or the owner tried to warn others about the dog, the owner should still be held responsible for their dog’s

Informative Essay: The Truth About Pitbulls

...Pit bulls being ‘vicious’ but are they really? Between good temperament, performing community acts of animal kindness, and opinions of people working in or adopting from shelters, pit bulls are very kind dogs. Pitbulls are just as or more well tempered than other dog breeds. One such temperament test, performed by the American Temperament Test Society, showed that pit bulls scored an overall 82% on the test which was better than 77% of all the breeds tested. In addition, a pit who is aggressive toward animals is extremely unlikely to attack humans next. Even if they do, it is likely from stress, pain, fear, being mentally or physically ill, or the human that was attacked was hurting someone else....

Animal Cruelty

...and caused uproar amongst millions of animal lovers. While this press undoubtedly raised awareness of the perils of animal cruelty, there are still hundreds and hundreds of cases that go unnoticed every day. For how loving and caring animals are to human beings, it is about time that we stand up to those who mistreat them and give animals the support they need and deserve. There have obviously been several animal activist groups over the years such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) but there is still so much we can do to raise awareness of this issue and make a difference. There are varying degrees of animal cruelty, however, one no better than the other. It is important to recognize each one and the motives behind the owner’s abuse because there needs to be different ways to handle these crimes. There is blatant abuse, such as in the Michael Vick case, where owners put animals in an atmosphere that is detrimental to their health and well-being. As for Vick, he bred and trained dogs to become vicious fighters as a part of his operation called “Bad Newz Kennels” (Schorn 1). CBS Sports Anchor James Brown asked Vick in an interview what had motivated him to continue to run this operation despite him knowing the risks and consequences of doing so (1). Vick cited that despite knowing everything he was doing was wrong, it was the competition and adrenaline that kept him in the business (1). The second form of animal cruelty can be best described as overall...

Memoir on Cali

...Dogfighting is a sadistic contest in which two dogs who are specifically bred, conditioned, and trained to fight are placed in a small pit (a small arena made out of plywood walls) to fight each other for the spectator’s entertainment and gambling. “Man’s best friend” may fight to the death in dog fights, often with tens of thousands of dollars at stake. Dogfighters sometimes kill the losing dogs, and even the winning dogs may die from their wounds. Life as a dog used for fighting is a nightmare. Dogfighting is a huge problem and it needs to stop. Sometimes as an individual you don’t think there is much you can do, but there is. Humane Society of the United States (2011) says dogs that are used as fighting dogs live chained up or are put into a tiny cage, do not get the veterinary care that they need. They die in the ring or they are unceremoniously shot for losing and some are used as “bait” for other dogs. Pit bulls and dogs that look like pit bulls get a bad rap because of their reputation as fighting dogs. Dogs that are used in dog fights often die of blood loss, shock, dehydration, exhaustion, or infection hours or even days after a dog fight. Injuries that are inflicted and sustained by dogs participating in dog fights are frequently severe, even fatal. The American pit bull terrier-type are used in a majority of dog fights. Pit bulls have been specifically bred and are trained for fighting as puppies. With their extremely powerful jaws, they are capable of inflicting...

...tied down to be used as bait and viciously mauled by a pitbull. This careless act by humans left Oogy fighting for his life. Unfortunately, this is only one of the many cases worldwide where animal cruelty has materialized. Providing basic necessities of life, shelter, food, water and medical care are the requirements for the survival of any living thing. Are animal’s not living things? Hundreds of animals are deprived of these basic needs every day. The Animal Legal Defense Fund in the USA reports that over 30% of cases they tracked (in the last 10 years) involve animal neglect. In order for an animal to be neglected, insufficient care has to happen over time. Neglect can occur in numerous forms, such as lack of food and water, not grooming resulting in raveled hair and sores on the skin, inadequate physical activity and many others. Equivalently, when owners break their commitment for their pet, this is abandonment and it is illegal. Nationwide in America, 6-8 million dogs end up in shelters now more than ever. These innocent, loving companions are rejected into the streets to fend on their own because of the no pet policy and house foreclosures. People for the Ethical and Treatment of Animals (aka as PETA) report that “over 100 million animals every year suffer and die” in cruel laboratories. Before new products such as make-up, food, prescription drugs or household cleaners, can be introduced to consumers animals are used as testers. Mice, rats, rabbits, dogs and...

Pitbull Discrimination

...Pit Bulls Dogs have been man’s best friend for hundreds of years. Pit bulls were considered “America’s Dog” for many years until people started to inherently misjudge them. Many of their characteristics that people are afraid of are made up and extremely incorrect, some are even impossible for any dog to possess. They are discriminated against without any basis other than skewed opinionated news stories and biased articles. Pit bulls are even an abundantly common household family pet, bought even for children. They are usually only aggressive when they have been raised by bad owners who abuse them, and they have even been proven to be less aggressive than many other dog breeds. Pit bulls are treated differently than other breeds; however, no dog should be discriminated against. There is a wonderful story of a heroic pitbull saving the life its loving owner. Lilly was a female pitbull who was owned by an elderly woman, whose name was Christine, to help her with her drinking problem. One day, Lilly and Christine were walking home from a friends’ house when Christine suddenly collapsed while crossing a set of railroad tracks. A train was coming towards her when the engineer finally saw her lying on the tracks. He frantically tried to slow the train but was unable to stop it completely and would have seriously injured killed her at the...
