Describe a pace or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there and why is it meaningful to you? Kids now days might deem a place without internet, games consoles and cable as a nightmare, hell, a place of agony, I deem it as a place of serenity, comfort and wholeness. I call that place Las Cruses, New Mexico. Immediately after crossing into New Mexico County I feel welcomed, as if it’s been waiting for me to come back since I left. There is a New Mexico welcome center awaiting me just two miles away from entering the county, outside the actual building there is a sculpture of a road runner standing 35 ft. tall made of shoes. All kinds of shoes sneakers, heels, flats all kinds of sizes, yes it stinks a bit but it holds a small part of a lot of New Mexico residents including me, if you look closely you’ll see a little white shoe that belonged to a little bubbly Alma. If it wasn’t the welcoming essence of the city it was the hundreds of types of cacti that inundated the rural part of town that awed me or maybe it was the miles of pecan trees that surrounded the suburban part of town I felt as if I was one with nature, as if I couldn’t get closer. Every adobe style house had its own personality they were all classic colorful and sheik and not one failed to have an Aztec sun outside of it. Even when the sun went down I had something to look forward to, I could spend the whole night looking up at the clear, clean sky that accommodated billions of stars I felt as I was able to climb onto a ladder and grab a star. I spent most of my time outside were there infinite possibilities of amusement; there was nothing to do inside. Poop, pee and spit are what the animals on my aunt’s farm produced on a daily basis but I didn’t care I still played and fed them. When I wasn’t dirtying my hands with hay I was dirtying my knees helping my dad outside in his garden, radishes, carrots and cilantro were served on a daily basis, surely I had my own garden were I had many sun flowers and altheas . Here in California I have dozens of beaches to indulge in, in Las Cruses I had White Sands Park a white gypsum and calcium sulfate beauty it was what looked like miles of white dessert. My brother was my partner in crime together we let the rabbit run about my dad’s garden and indulge in all his vegetables and let the dog of his leash and gnaw on my mom’s wooden patio set, our punishment usually was we have to stay inside and watch public television cartoons. Halloween in the year two thousand one in Las Cruses was epic, while other girls were buying their extravagant witch costumes that came with twenty dollar plastic brooms and the tallest pointiest hats I’ve ever seen I was stuck, being the youngest of 6 kids my parents couldn’t possibly afford to buy me one of those costumes but I remember my older siblings bragging about their plans to go watch the Mummy 2 so I asked my dad to take me to the dollar store and we bought 8 packets of gauze bandages and the next day i gladly and numbly accepted my award at school. Las Cruses in its beauties and hardships is the place where I’d always love to be. In the summer it means barbeques out in the dessert lasting all night, it means going to the dunes and showing them who is boss. Fall brings trees that please my every sense. Snow storms, hot chocolate and piles of wood for the fire place accompany winter. Spring is unlimited pecan pies and chili peppers. Being able to go to my grandmas’ room and listen to “Sabado Gigante” with her was one of the most meaningful things. I might use the internet on a daily basis; spend some Sundays playing video games with my brother and I love my reality TV but I feel more at peace with the world when I’m in Las Cruses. I’m not worrying about what kind of deals or offers I’m getting by email or how long it’s going to take me to prestige again. Just give me a desert, and I’ll be blithely happy.

Otherwise known as "Fraternity files". these essay banks were practices in which students shared term papers and submitted work that had been done by other students.[2] These essay banks inspired the commercialization of ghostwritten essay-writing practices. As early as the 1950s, advertisements were circulating college campus that described services that included ghostwritten work for dissertations, theses, and term papers.[2] In conjunction with this practice, the changing attitudes of students in the 1960s and 1970s started to stray away from diligent and engaged course work because they saw an emphasis on the benefits of community involvement. A new focus on activities outside of the classroom took away from...

Your e-structor has also embedded comments [in bold and in brackets] throughout your essay. Thank you for choosing Smarthinking's OWL; best wishes with revising your paper! *Strengths of the essay: Thanh , thank you for submitting your assignment for review. I am Ann B., your writing tutor. First, I want to point out a strength I noted when I read your paper. This sentence in the introduction presents a question and then answers it: College athletes are supposed to be the best of the best on that level, so why do college athletes not get paid? The question sets up the argument nicely for the reader! Now let’s move on to some areas that need revision. Content Development: A direct quotation like this one is not a good topic or first sentence: McCourt states “The athletes are ones who put in hours of practice and training” ( Evan Rosenfeld and Scarlett McCourt). Your audience may not understand why this quoted passage is important. The topic sentence should present a main point about athletes being paid in your own words. The first point is the hectic schedule. Can you write a topic sentence that introduces this point? I note that the second body paragraph does have a topic sentence introducing a point from the thesis in your own words: Another reason to why college athletes should get paid is they need...

William F. Shugart's Why Not A Football Degree?

...Many individuals believe that proposal essays are written to convince readers that certain problems exist. Others feel that they are written to allow the reader to view a particular problem in an alternative way. However, proposals are created to address problems and try to provide solutions, while creating emotional responses within the reader. In Why Not a Football Degree?, written by William F. Shugart II, there are many solutions to the specific problem, such as, specific degree programs, lengthening deadlines, and offering other ways to earn payment. Shugart inserts the idea that many violations occur with the rules established by the NCAA, which is also known as The National Collegiate Athlete Association. In order to help reduce the...

If you ever ask a highschool student whether they would want to go one more year very few would say yes. I would, not because I like school, not because I enjoy spending six hours cooped up inside, but because I could use one more year to just be sure I am completely prepared for college. Along with this I feel that because we are required to take tenth grade graduation test and most of our tenth grade year is spent preparing for this test. Highschool students today are highly prepared for the world, but that one extra year in high school could possibly be spent taking time on preparatory courses in college type setting. Students get thrown into the college setting which is a major shock to them due to the major differences. Maybe doing this our freshmen's first quarter wouldn't be as much of a change. Because we have to take the graduation test in tenth grade we don't learn anything that year. We need another year due to that, so we should go one more year to make sure we are ready. Personal Responsibilty

...Personal Responsibility Essay One’s chances of succeeding in college are highly dependent on their ability to demonstrate their personal responsibility. By doing so, one will be set for success not only in college, but also in life. Personal responsibility is also seen by many as a way to determine one’s character. Instead of giving up on one’s desires in life through the use of poor personal responsibility, they should push themselves to their greatest potential. There are many definitions of what personal responsibility is, depending on who one asks, but the common factor that they have is simply to know what choice is the best one to choose from, whether it be in their role as a leader or life in general. As Michael Korda has been quoted saying in “Leading Thought: Building a Community”(1996-2002), “Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibility....In the final analysis, the one quality that all successful people have is the ability to take on responsibility.” While searching for information this student came across a perfect explanation of what the definition of personal responsibility is to the majority of people. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY ESSAY 3 According to Ron Haskins in “The Sequence of Personal Responsibility”(2009), “Personal responsibility is the willingness to both accept the importance of standards that society establishes for individual behavior and to make strenuous personal efforts to live by those...

Compare/Contrast English 2

...Roberts narrative essay "How to Say Nothing in 500 Words" and Maya Angelou's descriptive essay "Sister Flowers", Roberts essay holds superior because he uses 2nd point of person, relate-able topics, and problem solving strategies in his essay. By using descriptive language, an author has the power to tantalize their readers simply by word usage. Descriptive language "refers to words that are vivid, expressive, and highly specific to the topic" (Connell & Sole, 2013). For example, in the essay "How To Say Nothing in 500 Words", the author sets the mood by stating, "It's Friday afternoon, and you have almost survived another week of class" (Roberts, 2013). All college students, the author's intended audience, can relate to anticipating the weekend, and a break from the stresses of college coursework. In speaking directly to the reader, second-person point of view, the author, Paul McHenry Roberts, establishes an intimate connection. Roberts uses humor within the body of the essay as well, furthering the connection between himself and his audience. Roberts states, "All subjects, except sex, are dull until someone makes them interesting." (Roberts). He further goes on about how to set up a unique paper. Roberts lists examples of different topics throughout this essay. He creates an informative essay about writing on much-debated topics by thinking outside the box. As Roberts illustrates by stating" Picture poor old Alfy coming home from football practice every evening, bruised...

Persuasive Essay

...Sushmita Das December 11, 2015 Period: 6 AP English 3 Persuasive Essay #10 College is that step into adulthood. You live on your own, make decisions by yourself, and etc. Many college students have the burden of student loans. On top of that they want to work hard for good grades. Making one mistake in college can honestly affect you for the rest of your life. Classes and teachers are way tougher than they are in high school. So do you think it is really necessary to have them do extra community service? College students should not be required to do community service. First, college students shouldn’t be allowed to do community service because of keeping up with a good academic record. Grades are an important factor in college. You honestly can’t afford to slack off. Statistics states,” 75% of college students suffer from major anxiety”. Focusing is a major priority for all your classes if you want to strive for good grades. You need to work consistently on reports or essays and study so that the material is a known thing to you. As a matter of fact, college students shouldn't be allowed to do community service because of limit of time with students who do sports. Most people don’t go to college just for education but to pursuit of a sport with a scholarship. A NYU student stated, “I have a scholarship for crew and practices are at least 5 hours, I have barely have no time for school work let alone do anything else”. “I also have to maintain...

Personal Responsibility

...Personal Responsibility Essay Cory Gowin Gen/200 June 2, 2014 Prof. Albert Hernandez Every person in this world has some personal responsibility. Personal responsibility is your ability to achieve something or get something done that is due in a timely manner. Personal responsibility goes hand in hand with college success. Also, you must have a plan to practice personal responsibility in order to be successful in college. The topics we are going to talk about in this essay are just a few that are critical in life and the professional field. Personal responsibility has to do with one’s ability to achieve a specific task or goal in a timely manner. I personally believe if you want to be successful in life then you must have personal responsibility. According to Tusculum College, “Personal Responsibility is one of the most important lessons that can be learned at college” (Estes, 2011). Personal responsibility includes getting up in the morning for work, making it to work on time, having proper hygiene, and many other things of that nature. Being a team leader takes more personal responsibility, because you are not only responsible for yourself, but you are also responsible for your teammates. If one of your teammates does not do their job, you must stand up and see why they did not do it or if the deadline is soon, maybe go ahead and do it yourself or with the help from other teammates, so the grade for everyone does not make a downwards spiral. If you lack personal responsibility...

Why I Read Better In High School

...Being able to read has always been easier for me than learning to write. As an elementary student, it was easier for me to comprehend a paragraph than it was to write on a specific topic. As I moved through high school and am now college, I still have trouble writing essays, because I’m still struggling with conveying ideas. Writing a thesis is very difficult because every time after I try to think about a topic, my mind goes blank. I am pretty good at reading but not writing because I have trouble constructing the sentences with correct grammar. In high school, I could read better than I write. The reason why I read better in high school is because we read our story in class together. For example, we read “Romeo and Juliet” together in...
