Money is important, but easy to lose and spend. People face debt all the time because they don’t know when to stop spending or, they have to borrow to pay bills because they aren’t capable of keeping track of their money.. Responsibility is very important while managing your money.
That sounds like me, I had problems controlling my spending cause I saw things that I wanted and bought them immediately without giving it much thought. I had no responsibility with my money blowing it on whatever I saw and a bunch of it was useless junk. I was in a place where I didn’t have the money to pay my phone and car payment because I didn’t take responsibility for what I was doing. I blamed other things that weren’t relevant to my money spending. I didn’t

...about The Eurozone that is facing some problems. It is amazing that strong countries are facing problems due to the financial crisis. The crisis has taken longer than experts predicted and the problems are all over the world. In this articles that I found interesting, it explain in graphics four topics about the Eurozone crisis. The four topics are: Deficit, GDP, Unemployment and Debt. Talking about Deficit, the EU rules say that countries using the euro are not allowed to have an annual deficit of more than 3% of GDP. The problem with this is that several countries have failed to keep that rule in recent years. The GDP chart show what the financial crisis has cause to the Eurozone countries. The GDP contracted during the crisis. Unemployment has been growing in the European countries. That is simple logic. Companies do not have money, they start firing employees and the unemployment rate goes up. Having a high debt to GDP Ratio is not that bad. If the country that lend money to you trust that you have the ability to pay back, the interest rate is not going to increase. If the interest rate goes up, the countries start getting more problems to pay the debt. In conclusion, I say that any country has to be aware of financial crisis. Even the stronger Eurozone countries are facing these problems. I think if the people in charge of the rules and of the big decisions care about the people and are honest enough, we will not have too many problems. Financial crisis are always...

Euro Crisis

...money than they thought. This had two effects, it caused interest rates to rise a lot, so that banker couldn’t lend out money and governments took on lots of debt bailing out banks. Some countries in Eurozone such as Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece all had very high national debts, either from overspending pre-crash, or bailing out their collapsing banks. High debts plus recession which is decreasing government tax revenue plus high interest rates equals threat of bankruptcy. So, all the above issues are specific to Europe, and we are discussing about the Eurozone economic crisis. Basically, all countries adjust their economies with monetary policy. With a unified currency, less productive countries e.g. southern Europe couldn't do this, so became less competitive and borrowed. They also able to borrow at cheap interest rates because of the currency union. This was part of why debts got so high in the southern of Europe. At the same time, Eurozone not only facing all those problem but also another problem. Normally a country almost no default because it can just print money to pay all the debts off immediately; but this also means devaluation or inflation, which reduces the size of debt. Until here, the problem is they can’t control to print money, because there is a unified currency. So they're stuck with high debts they can't relieve with national monetary policy. For the overall result, Greece is the only particularly culpable country, in the sense...

Euro Crisis

...EUROPEAN DEBT CRISIS – ORIGIN, CONSEQUENCES AND POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS F RA N TI Š E K N E M E T H Abstract What is the European debt crisis? As the head of the Bank of England referred to it in October 2011, it is “the most serious financial crisis at least since the 1930s, if not ever.”1 In fact, the European debt crisis is the shorthand term for the region’s struggle to pay the debts it has built up in recent decades. Five of the region’s countries – Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Italy, and Spain – have, to varying degrees, failed to generate enough economic growth to make their ability to pay back bondholders the guarantee it’s intended to be. Although these five were seen as being the countries in immediate danger of a possible default, the crisis has far-reaching consequences that extend beyond their borders to the world as a whole. Introduction The global economy has experienced slow growth since the U.S. financial crisis of 2008-2009, which has exposed the unsustainable fiscal policies of countries in Europe and around the globe. Greece, which spent heartily for years and failed to undertake fiscal reforms, was one of the first to feel the pinch of weaker growth. When growth slows, so do tax revenues – making high budget deficits unsustainable. Greece's economy has struggled since the country joined the euro in 2001. In 2004, it admitted its budget deficit was higher than allowed under rules of entry. By 2008 the government had narrowly passed a belt-tightening budget...

Marvel

... 1. Why did Marvel file for Chapter 11? Were the proble ms caused by bad luck, bad strategy, or bad execution? We think that Marvel filed for Chapter 11 mainly due to its bad business strategy. Three of its six business lines, Trading cards, Stickers and Comic Books started facing the decline in sales after year 1993. There were two main reasons for this decline: First, these businesses increasingly had to compete with alternative forms of child entertainment (mainly video games). Second, the decline in sales was driven by disappointed collectors who had viewed comic books as a form of investment and stopped buying them as company stopped increasing the prices. We believe that the company should have foreseen these events while performing a market research and forming a long-term business and financial strategy. The three unpromising business lines accounted to 61% of total revenues of a company in year 1995. At the same time, the company's financial strategy was based on highly optimistic business expectations and was not suitable for unfavorable turn of demand for entertainment products towards video games. Due to its high leverage (52%), the company was not able to serve all the debt in case of sharply declining revenues. It is obvious that the company did not anticipate the change in customers' preferences and was wrong in prediction of market trends, focusing on cards, stickers and publishing business lines and leveraging itself. Moreover, in 1995 Marvin...

The four principal divisions of the company are energy, healthcare, industry and infrastructure and cities. In this fundamental analysis I will first outline the major financial key figures for creditors and liability claimholders. In terms of the SWOT analysis I will analyze the industry and global environment Siemens is operating in. The final point will be a link between the major financial key figures and the SWOT. Based on the outcome, I will give a further outlook and advices for the creditors as focused stakeholders in this report.   I want to start with the current Profitability and Risk situation of Siemens. This represents the most important information’s for the creditors and liability claimholders. Financial Key-Figures: Profitability analysis Profitability measure the company's ability to generate profitable sales from its resources (assets). Over the last 5 years the revenue of Siemens stagnated and from the year 2010 to 2014 the company increased its revenues from 67,8 billion euro to 71,9 billion euro, which is an increase of only 6%. Whereby over the last 2 years the revenue decreased about 7% from 77,3 billion euro to 71,9 billion euro. Siemens gross profit margin deteriorated from 2012 to 2013 but increased from 2013 to 2014 by 5,5%, which indicates that the cost of goods sold decreased more than the revenue. From the year 2010 to 2014 the company was able to...

The Purpose Of Government Entitlement Programs

...There are many domestic issues facing the US today. One of the largest being the nation's national debt. This is because a growing share of the US budget is devoted towards entitlement programs. Programs like government entitlements are detrimental to the country's national debt and Congress has little margin for closing the budget deficit as expenditures for entitlement programs grow. They are also extensive and highly expensive. The challenge is in reforming entitlement programs, primarily Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, so that they can be both helpful towards the nation's citizens while in turn being optimal for the country's budget. The purpose of these programs is to care for the elderly in retirement, people with disabilities,...

Fiscal Problems

...America are struggling financially to work on their local problems. All these problems started during the financial recession where local governments could not raise enough funds to run their local governments. This has affected local leaders because they cannot fulfill their promises to the people who voted for them.one of such cities is Newark (New Jersey) where they still face problems of unemployment, health care cost and decrease in retirement benefits. The article shows how different cities are facing big debts because they borrowed a lot of money to take care of short term problems. These immediate problems included balancing city budget in order to take care of things like retirement benefit and the rising health care. Many leaders are forced to borrow money from financial institutions which force them to pay big interest later, these are such big decisions to make. Although cities face a lot of challenges, leaders are able to borrow money to take care of immediate problems to fix budget issues but the money borrowed comes with a big price of putting cities in long time debts which affect the development of various projects.Unemploymet is the biggest problem because people are forced to ask for help from their local governments through food and housing because many people cannot afford food and pay rent, this has led to overspending hence putting cities in more debts. According to the article, these long time debts are caused by leaders who don’t have financial knowledge...

Does Europe Need a Lender of Last Resort?

...where last resort measures need to be considered seriously. Unfortunately, Mrs Merkel may be wrong. Are we there yet? There are a number of compelling reasons to back this. With Italy and Spain (and eventually France and Belgium) in peril, even a tripling or a quadrupling of the ESFS fund would not be sufficient. And by providing such funds the debt crisis would surely arrive in Germany, too. So far, imposed austerity measures have induced recessions in the debtor countries, Euro zone economic growth is flat and even in Germany zero growth was reported in the last quarter. All this makes it more difficult to grow out of the debts. Financial markets and especially interbank markets are increasingly showing signs of resembling the conditions preceding the global financial crisis conditions – strongly suggesting that another banking crisis is just around the corner. But this time it will hit the Euro zone countries when their public debt levels are much higher. This will leave much less room for rescuing operations. Not the sole culprit Germany sees excessive sovereign debts in some countries as the root of the problem. If this problem is addressed properly and solved then the crises should disappear. But a...

...Answer: a) Write-off of investment in WCG During the Tech Bubble, the whole telecom market that WCG was involved in suffered a lot of problems due mainly to a large oversupply, as indicated by an estimated 2% to 5% of the fiber- optic lines which were only carrying traffic. There venue of WCG eventually plummeted, wherein prices of the lines decreased by more than 90% from 1998 and 2002.When WorldCom filed for bankruptcy protection in July 2002, it became apparent that the telecommunications sector was experiencing a lot of problems. WCG itself also began to experience a lot of financial stress, and in hopes of supporting it, Williams converted notes to shares, providing “credit support” of $1.4 billion of WCG’s debt (which Williams listed as an off -balance sheet item).Despite attempts to lessen WCG’s debt burden through raising new funds, WCG still had problems paying off its debts. While it managed to at least pay the required interest payments, it was not able to meet certain “covenants” and a breach was created with its secured creditors. This has caused WCG’s debt rating to fall due to “weakness in financial performance, lack of forward visibility, and exposure to customers whose risks are increasing.” In the end, Williams took a one-time accounting charge of $1.3 billion of guarantees and payment obligations. The problems with WCG ended up affecting Williams as well, causing Williams’ net income after extraordinary items to plummet, making it less desirable for...

The adjusting entries in question consist of accounts receivable bad debt, product returns, and product warranties. The accounts receivable bad debt is the first accounting adjustment they have different opinion. Karl would to prefer to bring the bad debt up to 3% of sale this year from 2.75% last year because he thinks an economic slowdown is coming. Besides, Karl believes in conservative accounting, so he thinks that the accountants should use the least favorable amount. However, John thinks the bad debt should be keep as same as 2.5%. John said that he does not see the need to bump up the bad debt percentages, and he mentioned they can adjust it in future as needed. The second adjusting entry they hold the opinion differ from each other is product returns. Karl wants to keep the 1% on product returns, but John thinks the product returns should be decrease to 0.5%. The reason Karl mentions is that the Turbo product line was generational change in their technology and when the products have problems, they may suffer some returns. ...for their retirement because of the failing economy and the rise of government debt. The failing Social Security program has been in the news for years. It has become a growing issue and a major concern to most Americans. With all the issues facing the government and its economy, the Social Security program needs to be overhauled. Still, people should also take matters in their own hands and make investments in a retirement plan. The results of this would place many retired Americans into poverty and losing everything they have worked for. The structure of Social Security is expected to fail in years to come. With people living longer and family’s being smaller, less revenue is being poured into the Social Security system keeping it up and running as an active source of retirement income.
