...A Death That Revealed the World’s Concealed View on Homosexuality The Laramie Project is a play written by Moises Kaufman and the members of Tectonic Theater Project. The play is based on the interviews of the citizens of Laramie about what’s happening in Laramie and their responses to the murder of Matthew. In addition to the various themes suggested by the play, the author wanted to present the varying perspectives toward homosexuality in the Laramie community at the time of Matthew’s death. The author also wanted to explore how these perspectives may have changed as the result of Matthew’s death. Even though the citizens of Laramie persisted that hate is not a value they practice, they still showed contrasting and puzzled views towards homosexuality. Some of the citizens of Laramie, together with Reverend Fred Phelps and his people, displayed extreme hatred towards homosexuals. Reverend Phelps and his people gave an emphasis that Matthew Shepard deserved to die, for he was a sinner and a disgrace to God. They displayed placards with the picture of Matthew burning in the eternal flames of hell. Reverend Phelps says, “If God doesn’t hate fags, why does he put’ em in hell?” (79). Reverend Phelps wanted to tell every member and supporter of the LGBT community that God hates them. The undeniable proof of God’s hate to them was how he didn’t welcome Matthew into heaven and sent him to hell instead. Doug Laws, together with other citizens, showed dislike toward homosexuality...

...the Interactive Portal Project while working at ABC Corp. The project’s goal was to increase community engagement with the corporation through the provision of services through the use of the extra bandwidth available to the community via the Federal Broadband Network (FBN). Services were to be delivered through a planning website that would allow the department to provide pre-lodgement meetings via web conferencing and a community engagement website that would allow residents to access community forums or consultation workshops by live streaming these sessions. The project was part of the Federal Government’s rollout of the FBN and as such, funding to complete the project was provided in part by the Federal Government. Funding from the Federal Government was provided with the objective of increasing community engagement with the corporation, therefore imposing this change upon the corporation. The business change related to this proviso was that implementation of these websites would improve the delivery of services to the community, which the ABC Corp Corporate Plan states is one of the organisation’s goals (n.d, p 43). However, although the goal is aligned to one of ABC Corp objectives, delivering services through the internet has not been one of the business objectives (ABC Corp Corporate Plan, n.d, p 43). Therefore, the imposed goal could not be fully aligned to the actual business strategy and required an alternative goal to align the project to the organisation’s...

...A Review of Project Performance Measurement Introduction The management of engineering projects in any type of industry is becoming a challenge to professional engineers and technical managers as competitions for business opportunities arise in an increasingly competitive market place for effective project management and control systems in compliance with clients’ contractual requirements. Never before have the pressures on project managers been as great as they are today to successfully satisfy the criteria of time, cost and quality in the completion of the projects for which they are responsible. Delayed Projects cost 1, 64,000 direct jobs and Rs. 2.5 lakh crore investment says ASSOCHAM. India lost the job opportunities of employing more than 1,64,000 people with eighteen major projects in sectors like steel, power, auto getting stuck due to procedures relating to land acquiring and forest & environment clearances, an Assocham Eco Pulse (AEP) Study has stated. According to AEP study “Delayed Projects and lost job opportunities”, the 18 strangled projects of India Inc. to the tune of Rs. 2,44,815.5 crore remained on papers, in the form of MoUs and agreements over the past three-four years, however the smooth implementation could have created job opportunities for at least 1, 64, 000 people directly and 2,70,000 people indirectly. ...some good project management based software that we can use to organize and stay on track. There are many options out there but I was looking for something… well… free! I stumbled upon a freeware gem called Project Pier. Surprisingly, it was very easy to setup and the GUI was simple to pick up. It comes out of the package ready to help manage multiple projects all at once. You can set milestones, set tasks, create reports, create and track tickets, write and manage wiki pages, and it comes with all the standard administration/configuration. Adding users and managing them is a breeze. It also has many configurable items such as email notifications. You can create a milestone goal for your company or project to achieve and then create a task list where you assign different tasks to different users. Each user gets notified of there tasks and given the deadlines. As tasks are completed, you can actively see the % of completion of each milestone or task. Its a true treasure to be able to see the progress your company makes day to day. The ticketing system is very straight forward. You can open tickets in categories like bug reports, enhancement requests, or defect. Each ticket gets assigned severity levels and can email notify specific individuals who will then update and close the ticket when the issue or enhancement request has been attended to. Project Pier requires Apache with PHP and MySQL database. If you need assistance with the install of Project Pier, then...

...Module 6 Questions 1. Discuss what needs to be done as part of closing a project. Why are these activities important? The process of closing the project includes collecting and making final payments, recognizing and evaluating staff, conducting a post-project evaluation, documenting lessons learned, and organizing and archiving project documents. These activities are important to make sure that the customer is satisfied, to gather information about how to improve for future projects, to determine whether additional opportunities are available with the customer, and to obtain permission to use the customer as a reference (Gido & Clement, 2014). 2. Discuss the internal post project evaluation process and the two types of meetings involved. The internal post-project evaluation process includes meetings with individual team members and a group meeting with the project team to gather feedback for improved future performance. The individual meetings allow the project manager to gather information and share performance appraisals describing how each team member's skills advanced while working on the project. The post-project team meeting is a time for the project manager to lead a discussion about how the team performed on the project in terms of technical competence, budget, schedule, project planning and control, risk management, customer and team relationships, communication, problem identification and resolution, lessons learned, and recommendations (Gido &...

...Week 5 Review Questions March 2, 2013 1. The project manager’s primary attention must be on activities that are on the project’s critical path because if there is any delay at all, it would cause the project to be delivered late. 2. For any activities on the critical path, there is zero amount of slack. For activities not on the critical path, the slack is calculated by subtracting the ES (earliest start) from the LS (latest start) or by subtracting the EF (earliest finish) from the LF (latest finish). 3. To determine the ES for a item with 2 predecessors, the project manager should look at each predecessor to see if either one of them or both of them are on the critical path. The ES is the later of the 2 predecessor’s LF. The LF for an activity with 2 successors is determined by looking at each successor’s LS and determining which one has an earlier LS. 4. All the activities on the project’s non-critical path will not have the same slack because each of them can have different predecessors and different successors and different timeframes. 5. A. 4 B. 2 & 3 C. 5 6. Dummy tasks are used in situations where 2 activities have the same starting and ending nodes to make sure to be able to distinguish between the activities and not have the 2 activities be considered the same activity. 7. Because task d is only 6 days and task c is over double than task d so we can safely assume that a merge problem won’t occur because in all likelihood, task d...

What types of constraints are common to most projects? Time and budget constraints are common to most projects for clients, and the amount of resources available and the decision maker’s risk tolerance are constraints from an internal point of view. 5. Which deliverable authorizes the project team to move from Selecting and Initiating to Planning? The approval of a charter 6. At what stage of a project life cycle are the majority of the “hands-on” tasks completed? At the execution stage 7. During which state of the project life cycle are loose ends tied up? ...Riverside Casino and Golf Resort / Stacy Benson Topic Title Performance Reviews NO. This title won’t work. What about performance reviews? If you were doing a simple research paper you could write about performance reviews based on research alone. In this Sr Paper you must determine the state of the art based on your Literature Review. Then you will give the background of the problem and discuss it. This must all lead to two Courses of Action (COAs; solutions) that are tied to your title and problem. You need a “product” such as a process, a plan, a strategy, a program – something that can be recommended and implemented. Problem Statement (if not finalized post a draft – focus on the "pain.") The problem is that after initial training employees are not being reviewed for current performance. Suggest that after this initial statement you add something more about the problem. Brief Topic Overview The casino is experiencing a high turnover rate of employees because after their initial training they are put on the floor without any further review. In the handbook employees are supposed to have a review after 90 days but they are not being implemented. This leaves the casino with under qualified employees that eventually terminate their employment due to not feeling able to meet the high demands. ...The goals of a literature review are to provide the reader with a critical analysis of scientific literature about a specific topic or question. Writing a summary about other works can demonstrate the depth of familiarity of a chosen topic. In order to further one's understanding, or research, studying the works of others is important because multiple disciplines may have competing explanations for a given subject. Literature review is also structured in a particular style that creates a uniform way for writers to articulate their ideas in a fashion the reader is familiar with. Craig Anderson uses the APA guidelines to create a clear structure for his review studying the effects of heat and violence. The structure of a literature review typically follows a certain format and order. In Anderson's, review Heat and Violence, he starts this process with a title that describes what the article is about. Following the title of the paper is an abstract, or overview, of what the entire article is about. Because there are a number of...
