...It is hard to remember books I read while growing up because I was a reluctant reader. I remember two books. Cherry Ames Senior Nurse because it was my first oral book report. The Mayor of Casterbridge because I skimmed the pages before class just so I could make a passing grade on the quiz. If you are a parent of a reluctant reader, don’t force them to read. Encourage them and provide quality books so when the urge or necessity to read happens, you are not scratching your head trying to decide which book is best. Just. Be. Patient. Twelve books were required for my 11th grade year; quickly, I learned to love reading. One book flung me into the life of a girl who found herself in the middle of self-imposed craziness. Anytime I could pick...

...The 12 Books of History: Test 2 Essay Question The twelve books of history start with Joshua and end with Esther. These Twelve books start with the Israelites entering the promise land and end with them again entering the promise land. They enter the land eventually take control of the land and divide it among the twelve tribes. They don’t do what is right in the eyes of God and eventually are run out of their land. They are then allowed to return in groups. I found a lot of interesting stories in my reading during this time. The first book of history is Joshua and I would like to talk about Rahab the prostitute. Before the Israelites entered the Promised Land Joshua sent two spies into the land especially Jericho to look things over and then to report back the findings. They went to Rahab’s house. The king found out they were there and sent word to bring them to him .Instead of bringing them she hid them on the roof and told the king they already left. Because of her kindness the men agreed to spare her and her family and they keep their promise when they came in and took over the land. The second book of history is Judges. After the Israelites entered the land they didn’t clear the whole land like they were told by God. As the people keep sinning they would kind of hit rock bottom and...

...ago I wrote a report titled “How to Hack the Stock Market”. The report is just 62 pages long but it explains a specific stock market loophole I use to make roughly $10,000 a month. After first writing the report I sold it to experienced traders from an online investing community. Within weeks some of the traders were exploiting the loophole and making thousands of dollars. Because of that success I decided to create this website and sell the report online. I apologize for the short quiz I just had you fill out... I only want to teach this strategy to those who will actually put it to use. If someone couldn’t answer those simple questions, they will not have the drive or motivation to make this work. I could write a killer ad for my report. I could fill it with testimonials from successful students and even show you proof of my earnings. But I’m not going to do that – I hate those late night infomercials more than anyone else I know. Instead, I’m just going to let you read Chapter 1 of my report. (I’ve reproduced it below). But first, I need to tell you something. Some of my friends and clients laugh at the title of the report. I mean, I admit "How to Hack the Stock Market" is a little kitsch. But I called it that because... My report won't teach you about "life". I'm not gonna bore you with mindless drivel about personal finance and achieving your dreams. If you want that stuff buy 'Rich Dad Poor Dad'. Or any of the other "get rich quick" books on Amazon. ...

...The Power of the Word 1 of 4 https://www.lds.org/general-conference/print/1986/04/the-power-of-the-... April 1986 General Conference Ezra Taft Benson President of the Church This address, prepared for delivery at the Friday, 4 April 1986, Priesthood Leadership Meeting, was delivered in part by President Benson. The complete text is printed here at his request. My dear brethren, what a thrilling sight it is to look out over this body of priesthood leadership and to know how many thousands of Saints you serve and how much dedication and faithfulness you collectively represent! There is no other body anywhere in the world today that meets for the same righteous purpose as does this group, nor is there any other group— political, religious or military—that holds the power that you do here tonight. We live in a day of great challenge. We live in that time of which the Lord spoke when he said, “Peace shall be taken from the earth, and the devil shall have power over his own dominion.” (D&C 1:35.) We live in that day which John the Revelator foresaw when “the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” (Rev. 12:17.) The dragon is Satan; the woman represents the Church of Jesus Christ. Satan is waging war against the members of the Church who have testimonies and are trying to keep the commandments. And while many of our members are remaining...

...Surrounding Jimmy Cross with symbols, O’Brien practically leads his readers to this conclusion. In the initial description of Cross, O’Brien tells readers that Cross carries a compass, maps, code books, binoculars, and a .45 caliber pistol (O’Brien 5). Expert readers immediately understand that the compass and map symbolizes a leader since these are items only leaders carry. Significantly, however, O’Brien also mentions Martha, and the items he carries that are from Martha: ‘love’ letters, the stone, and two photographs. At the time of Ted Lavender death, it was Martha, Cross thought about, and not his troops. Immediately following Lavender’s death, Cross leads his men into the village of Than Khe and burns everything. Later that night, Cross also burns his letters from Martha (O’Brien 15-16). This might not strike a person as important, but as Foster says, “Actions can also by symbolic” (Foster 112). Burning an object means rebirth, analogous to a phoenix being reborn in fire. It also represents the letting go of an object/person akin to the Norse tradition of sending their dead to sea, and burning the boat. As a result of Lavender’s death, Cross leads his men to burn the village to appease his guilt of...

The Olympic Games in 2012 has attracted 100,000 foreign visitors to London, but tourists who would normally have gone to the city to see Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and the Tate Modern has chosen other cities to holiday in. ...a clear purpose and strategy for your life, but ultimately this means nothing if you are not investing the resources you have in a way that is consistent with your strategy. In the end, a strategy is nothing but good intentions unless it's effectively implemented.” –Clayton M. Christensen (1) Something that really struck me in Christensen’s book was when he talked about how he developed the strategy for his own life. At the time, Christensen was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, and his academic program was very demanding. Yet, Christensen “decided to spend an hour every night reading, thinking, and praying about why God put [him] on this earth.” This daily commitment was challenging to keep because it took him away from his studies, but reflecting upon that commitment and experience, he said: “Had I instead spent that hour each day learning the latest techniques for mastering the problems of autocorrelation in regression analysis, I would have badly misspent my life. I apply the tools of econometrics a few times a year, but I apply my knowledge of the purpose of my life every day. It’s the single most useful thing I’ve ever learned. I promise my students that if they take the time to figure out their life purpose, they’ll look back on it as the most important thing they discovered at HBS. If they don’t figure it out, they will just sail off without a rudder and get buffeted in the very rough seas of life.” (2) In order to answer the question “How will I measure my life?” I have to...

...Ass The Assignation of JFK and the Conspiracy Theory Jayme Jackson DeVry University Contemporary History HIST410 Professor Lisa Jones December 14, 2013 The Assignation of JFK and the Conspiracy Theory November 22, 1963 was an unforgettable day in American history. On this day the thirty-fifth President of the United States, John F. Kennedy (JFK), was assassinated in Dallas, Texas while he rode in an open limousine with Texas Governor John Conally (Wicker, 1963). He received fatal head wounds caused by one of the bullets from the shooting. Lee Harvey Oswald (Oswald), the only person ever formally accused of the assassination, ran away from the Texas Book Depository where he worked, and was stopped for questioning by a police official. At which time, Oswald killed the officer with a revolver he had hidden (Wicker, 1963). Oswald fled to the Texas Theater and within a short time period he was apprehended by the police and brought into a police station (Wicker, 1963). Although Lee Harvey Oswald was accused of the crime, he was murdered by Jack Ruby and never prosecuted for the assassination. Since the tragic events that occurred in November of 1963, there have been many theories that the murder of President John F. Kennedy was done as part of a conspiracy. As this year of 2013 it has been fifty years since the events and people are still mystified with the assassination of JFK and the possible conspiracy theories. An important fact that Americans and people worldwide...
