According to the article named, (What in the Name of High School Football?) by Hank Hill “Varsity sports only benefit some.” This lead me to the question, “Are high school sports beneficial to students or do they just add more pressure?” We think that sports do not benefit students, because concussion rate has tripled, a student/athlete even thinks so, and for every high school sport the % of every kid getting a scholarship is under 10%
High school sports are not worth all of the stress. Studies say that the probability of someone actually getting into a collage for a sport is 10% (the first video). So is the stress even worth it, the answer is no it's not because really you're probably not going to get into the collage you want to get into

College Atheletes Privilaged

...now. College is a very difficult task to complete, especially when trying to balance both sports and academics. With that being said, education should be their main priority. College athletes should have all of the same responsibilities as non-athletes as far as academics are concerned. So should college athletes be exempt from normal class? The athletics department is considered to be one of the most revenue making departments in many colleges. Therefore student athletes are many times allowed special treatment with regard to minimum school requirements. While I do understand that athletics are a very important part of the college experience, it should not be the main priority. The priority of a college is to provide students the opportunity to earn not just a degree but a skill that will help them to succeed in the real world. The cost of living is very high and just keeps getting higher, for a person to be competitive in todays job market it is almost necessary to have a college degree. The number of athletes that actually turn professional are few. Most athletes don’t go pro after college so they should make academics their number one priority in order to get the full educational experience. Those that do make it to pro are at high risk career ending injuries on a daily basis. That is why it is really important that student athletes be encouraged to put academics first and sports second. Placing their focus on education allows the athlete to develop other areas of there...

Public School Versus Home Schooled

...PUBLIC SCHOOL VERSUS HOME SCHOOL Lisa Cole As parents, we are all concerned about our child’s education; whether to home school or send our child to public school. Home school and public school each has their pros and cons, making it a hard decision for parents to make; socialization, arts and music, peer pressure, and time management. Socialization is a huge part of a person’s life, and the ability to teach our children at a young age is very important. When a child is home schooled, there is a less chance for socialization among peers compared to public school. In public school a child is able to socialize with peers their age, a variety of ethnicity, and cultures. There is a downside to public school, peer pressure. Homeschooled children are less likely to have to face peer pressure; violence, drugs, and alcohol. Children in public schools are taught at a young age about drugs, sex, alcohol, and violence. Public schools hire professionals to talk to our children in these areas. A child who is home schooled, it is up to the parent how the child is taught about drugs, sex, alcohol, and violence. Most parents are embarrassed to talk to their children about these topics and often get ignored. If a parent is not sure on where to begin there are doctors, pamphlets, and the library for books. Not only is socialization important; so is art, music, and sports. Art, music, physical education, and sports are more accessible in public school. Home schooled children are...

Should College Athletes Be Paid

...colleges in these United States. There are many pros and cons to college athletes being paid to play their sport, which makes this is a very controversial topic. Are the sport scholarships and uniforms enough? Should schools really pocket all that money they make in revenue from the sports teams? Many moral, ethical and legal issues can be raised in the idea of paying college athletes to play, on both the pro and con side of the issue. Should an athlete receive a full ride scholarship and also be paid from the school to play? Many big universities may be able to handle such a thing, but what about the small colleges that do not receive such a large amount of revenue from their sports teams? Can or should schools pay all the athletes or only the top players? What about Title IX, how will potentially paying athletes be affected by it? All these topics will be discussed, as well as Team C’s final decision on this matter. PROS In 2012 the athletic revenue reported by University of Texas was $163.2 million, Alabama $143.4 million, Ohio State $142.0 million and Michigan $140.1 million (Berkowitz, Schnaars, & Upton, 2014) Coaches like Nick Saban (Alabama Football) and Mike Krzyzewski (Duke Men’s Basketball) make in excess of $7 Million a year, along with the athletic directors. Conferences receive billion-dollar television contracts for NCAA tournaments and the new college football playoff system, which then gets dispersed to the schools in the conference. (Gasper, 2014). Benefits of Youth Sports

...Benefits of Youth Sports“Sports do not build character. They reveal it,” said John Wooden, legendary UCLA basketball coach. Playing sports not only provides physical activity, but also other positive benefits. This is especially true for children. A well-structured and organized youth program will provide benefits and positive experiences for young athletes. While children are having fun participating in sports they are also building character, learning to work as a team, and playing fairly. Most people think the only benefits of sports are physical. Sports are more than just developing hand-eye coordination and burning calories, youth sports provide many developmental benefits, physical benefits, and psychological benefits. In addition to improved physical health, sports play a positive role in the development of youth. Studies show that the five “Cs”—competence, confidence, connections, character, and caring—develop positively through the participation in sports at a young age (Luxbacher 2). Each one of the five “Cs” are important components of youth development. The skills that are learned through playing sports, such as the discipline of training, learning teamwork and following the leadership of coaches provide athletes with lifelong skills. Important lifelong skills also include goal setting, time management, the value of planning ahead, honesty, respect, and an appreciation for diversity (Wood 3). At a young age, sports help teach youth how to handle adversity by showing...
