...Testing A Theory | PSY201 | W1A1 | | | The one time I have used a theory at work that has stood out the most to me would be trying to explain all the work we have to accomplish during the whole job instead of focusing on the part of that job that needed to be done that particular day. I pulled my dad aside one day and asked if we could just describe the work one day at a time instead of cramming the employees with work information for the full month of work. At first he just said that in order to complete the job the worker must now every detail for the whole job, but eventually I gave him an example of when you’re in school and you need to study for a test most people take all week to study because your brain can gain more information that way, but when people cram information in their head the day before a big test they usually fail that test because they put their brain into an overload state and cant process that much information at once .He finally agreed with me after that example and decided to give it a shot. I believe my theory has a mix of 3 research methods; Descriptive and correlational research, archival research, and naturalistic observation. I believe this because I got my theory from a previously situation I experience in my life that I studied the outcome of what happened when you crammed your brain full of too much information at once. But after I talked my dad into letting me try my way, I saw back and watched the jobsite flow better than ever...

...Motivation Complete the following matrix. When presenting real world examples, do not use the examples listed in the text. Theories of Motivation Theory Type Key components of the theory Real world example Similarities and Differences Instinct Theories Motivation from biologically programmed behaviors occurring in response to environmental cues. A bird migrating prior to the winter season, or a sea turtle seeking out the ocean after hatching. They both deal with knowledge you do not have to learn because your brain will already know how to interact with things. The examples I gave where about animals and the subject deals with every living thing. Evolutionary Theories Evolutionary theories of motivation focus on motives that affect the success of growth over time. Computers and cell phones have changed the way we interact with people. Here I gave examples of how technology has evolved over time and changed the way we live. My examples are of technical creation and the text book shares evolution of living things and how they evolve. Drive Theories A theory that states of tension motivate us to take action to reduce them. Having to go to the bathroom while you are driving down the road you will need to pull into the next gas station to relieve yourself. In both cases your body tells your mind that something needs to be done in order to resume with everyday life. ...A Summary of Reclaiming Adulthood as a Social Category Foundations of Psychology/PSY201 November 6, 2011 I chose this topic because the author included adolescence through adulthood in three separate stages. If I had to write a research paper on this topic, I would not choose this article because the author and his references are mainly concerned with the negative element of living to old age. The author’s intent is to elaborate the social constitution of adulthood in three steps. In the first step the transition from adolescence to adulthood occurs between the ages of 18 and 30. These transitions are measured by the individual’s ability or willingness to progress into adulthood by achieving certain benchmarks. The author notes that in Western society, young people are refusing to grow up or are rejecting adulthood altogether. He bases his conclusions on delayed or forfeited family formation and marriage, prolonged stays or frequent returns to the parental home, long periods of education, leisure pursuits, and practices. He believes these factors precipitate moral decline. This trend has become prevalent in countries throughout the world. He notes that the U.S. National Academy of Sciences considers the end of adolescence at 30. However, there is no social scientific consensus on beginnings and endings. In the second step of adulthood, the securities of the post war era allowed people to plan a relatively coherent future, but that is no longer true. From...

...Practical and emotional intelligence Christopher Ferguson PSY201 July 14th, 2013 Joan Mason Practical intelligence – “According to Sternberg, intelligence related to overall success in living (Psychology and Your Life Ch. 2 Pg. 385). I interpret this statement as whomever has wealth, nice materialistic items, and is financially stable would fall into the “practical intelligence” category. Emotional Intelligence – The skills that underlie the accurate assessment, evaluation, expression, and regulation of emotions. (Psychology and Your Life Ch. 2 Pg. 385). The ability to control our emotions, or keep them under control. There is a large difference between these two intelligences, as one is measuring the intelligence of someone who has lived well and prospered (Practical Intelligence), and the other (Emotional Intelligence) is the measure of keeping our emotions under control. Practical intelligence is important in the workplace, as we must understand how to present ourselves in the work environment. According to Sternberg, (Psychology, and Your Life Ch. 2 Pg. 385). “Practical Intelligence is learned mainly through observation of others’ behavior.” This is how many individuals learn how to present themselves in a professional environment. Emotional intelligence is equally as important within the workplace...

...04 FEB 2015 Socialization Socialization is the process by which individuals acquire the knowledge, language, social skills, and value to conform to the norms and roles required for integration into a group or community. It is a combination of both self-imposed and externally imposed rules, and the expectations of others. Attitudes contain affective, behavioral, and cognitive components and can be shared to relieve the discomfort people feel when components are not in harmony. The relationship between attitudes and behavior is a complex relationship; attitude involves affects (emotions), behavior (actions), and cognitions (thoughts). When these components of attitudes are in “harmony”, a person’s motivation can be understood. (University of Phoenix, 2014) Social interaction is the way people talk and act with each other and various structures in society. It is an exchange between two or more individuals and is a building block of society. The way we interact and relate to each other can reveal our assumptions and influences our prejudice, aggression, and attraction. The role that prejudice plays in social interaction is a usually a negative and baseless attitude. Prejudice includes negative feelings, stereotyped beliefs, and the tendency to discriminate. It is part of normal human thinking and it is sort of a “categorizing” process for the social world (Cherry, 2015). Aggression consists of words or physical acts a person does to cause harm. There are several...

...Practical and Emotional Intelligence Isabel Navarrete PSY201 June 30, 2013 Patricia Riley Practical and Emotional Intelligence According to Psychology and Your Life, Chapter 9 there is two types of intelligence: Practical and Emotional. Robert Sternberg has defined practical intelligence as the intelligence related to overall success in living (Feldman, 2013, p. 385). This type of intelligence is not learned from academic success based on information that comes from reading or listening; rather it is obtained or learned through the observation of behaviors from others’. Now emotional intelligence is the set of skills that underlie the accurate assessment, evaluation expression and regulation of emotions (Feldman, 2013, p. 385). The difference between practical and emotional intelligence is as that practical intelligence is learned from observation and Emotional Intelligence is the ability to get along with others. Emotional and Practical intelligence can be very helpful to the person, especially if they are well aware of the intelligences. The following will discuss how each type of intelligence is important in the workplace. Based on the definition of practical intelligence; overall success in living, this is type of intelligence is important in the workplace because it for one an intelligence that is learned from observations of behaviors and if you as the employee is very observant, then a lot can be learned from the workplace. The employee can...

Psychology And Your Life Ch.1 Retrieved: March 27, 2012 From: My Adobe Reader file Perception is the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses. It is because of the perceptual process, that you become aware of the world around you. Perceiving is one of the brain’s two primary functions. The other is determining how you act in response to what you perceive. Your perception of your environment is influenced by your past experiences, your beliefs, and expectations. This is why each person’s perception of reality is different. An organization’s behavior can be impacted by one’s perception of other in many ways. Someone who may be higher up in the work place, may have a huge impact on the behavior in the organization. Managers are supposed to make the best decisions possible for the business. Every decision made by a manager will affect the company in some way. If the wrong decision is made, it way affect the products and employees of the organization. Some things that can impact a person’s perception may be time, work setting, and social settings. What individuals perceive...
