I recently signed up for an Interpersonal Communication class at Bakersfield College taught by Professor A. Todd Jones. The class was asked to write about what they expected to get from this class. My expectations for this class is to learn how to better interact with others, to learn how to better communicate, and to get my Communication certificate. In this class I expect to learn the principles of interpersonal communication and also the stages of relational development. I believe that learning these principles will help me be a more effective communicator and teach me to better interact with others. I also believe that the class will get to know each other by communicating and interacting with one another. I’ve attended class

Even further, researchers wanted to investigate appropriate ways to use methods of communication in significant events in a relationship, specifically relationship termination. Each potential choice has its own consequences, which is why it important to examine what leads individuals to chose to terminate a relationship with mediated communication versus face to face. The purpose of this study is to explore a new area of romantic relationships, the mediums of communication used to terminate the relationship. Most communication research examines how relationships grow through the use of mediated communication. Research about how relationships are ended through mediated communication versus face to face is relatively absent. Pettigrew (2009) conducted a study on text messaging and the connectedness it can bring to close interpersonal relationships. Researchers discovered that participants valued text messaging because they felt it was a way to privately and directly communicate with their loved ones and gain constant connectedness (Pettigrew, 2009). As a result text messaging seems to be becoming a more acceptable way of communicating important messages to the ones you love, despite the fact that “they filter out several channels of communication like vocal tone, volume, hand gestures, and so on” (Pettigrew, 2009, p. 697). This paper integrates the factors of social capital theory; namely, social ties, knowledge self-efficacy, fairness, identification, and openness; with individual motivations to share knowledge; namely, reputation, and enjoy helping; to explain why people share their knowledge on Facebook groups. The models' efficacy was tested using online survey of 237 Facebook groups' members. The model explained 34% of the variance in knowledge sharing behavior where knowledge self efficacy, identification with group, and perceived group openness were found to positively influence knowledge sharing behavior. Contrary to expectations, social ties, perceived group fairness, and individual motivators showed no significant influence on knowledge sharing behavior.
