...“Performance management and the psychological contract are both critical in getting the best from employees.” One could describe an organization's relationship with an employee as an exchange of sorts; an employee exchanges his/her labour for economic rent and an employer facilitates the transformation of the labour into a value added return. But such exchanges require that the employee be supported, nurtured, and developed in line with organizational aspirations (Behery, Paton & Hussain, 2012). Therefore, in Human Resource Management, the relationship between performance management, the psychological contract and their effects on organisational performance is becoming an area of increased discussion. It has been argued that, in order to generate a work environment where employees know what is expected of them and perform in such a way that the strategic goals of the organization are supported, it is crucial that the parties have confidence that the other party will deliver on their promises (Rousseau, 1989, as cited in Braekkan, 2012). The management of performance is a major element in determining the psychological contract within an organization, particularly in circumstances of change. (Stiles, Gratton, Truss, Hope-Hailey, McGovern, 1997) Global forces have placed performance at the heart of the employment relationship. Simultaneously, performance management has become, at least implicitly, Human Resources Managements primary goal for strategic purposes (Davila &...

Survey research method is being selected for this study along with self administered questionnaire to collect relevant and needed information. Researcher has remained successful in gathering valid and reliable data and then to critically evaluating the data. Univariate and bivariate tables are used to access the results of the study i.e. to study the relationship between level of work life balance and level of teachers’ performance. At the end Resercher has found the two variables linked closely together and moving in the same direction. That means the research hypothesis has been proved and it is concluded that there exists a strong relationship between the two variables under study. ...Introduction: In the recent years, employers have recognised that the success of business is closely influenced by the motivation and professional capacity of their workforces. Accordingly, companies are faced with the challenge of increasing the level of employee commitment, job satisfaction and motivation (Greene, 2001). In this regard, it is important for companies to take into consideration the impact of employee needs, morale and expectations and to negotiate appropriate work arrangements for motivating employees as part of performance recognition. The following paper presents a discussion on the importance of employee motivation in the workplace. The discussion is mainly based on literature review and points that employee motivation is necessary for improved work performance. The paper has explored the important contributing played by work-life balance and financial incentives in improving employee motivation. The research indicates that the two factors foster loyalty by employees, increased performance and commitment, which are essential indications of motivation. The concept of Employee Motivation and Rewards Most discussions of motivation begin with the concept of individual needs – the unfulfilled physiological or psychological desires of an individual. Content theories of motivation use individual needs to explain the behaviours and attitudes of people at work. The basic logic is straightforward. People have needs. They engage in behaviours to obtain extrinsic...

...Organizational Commitment is highly valuable. Studies have highlighted that commitment has a great impact on the successful performance of an organisation. This is because a highly committed employee will identify with the goals and values of the organization, has a stronger desire to belong to the organization and is willing to display greater organizational citizenship behaviour i.e., a willingness to go over and beyond their required job duties. And if human resources are said to be an organization‘s greatest assets, then committed human resources should be regarded as an organisation‘s competitive advantage. This paper will analyze the concept of organizational commitment, what it means and why it is so relevant to organizations. In fact, vast numbers of studies have found positive relationships between organizational commitment and employee behaviours such as a greater effort exerted by the employee in performing tasks, higher employee retention, better work attendance, increased willingness to engage in citizenship behaviour and higher delivery of service quality. In essence, this shows an all-round higher employee performance effectiveness. Moreover, in today’s fast paced and dynamic business environment, organizations can no longer guarantee "a job for life" which has made the notion of organizational commitment even more pertinent. It is therefore in the organization's best interest to elicit this kind of behaviour. Various means of securing organisational commitment, in a cost...
