Complying with government requirements is another major task. It is really needed before starting any renovation. We needed to spend time and also money in processing all necessary documents. Fourth, the Renovation Concept/Theme. This talks about the changes that we wanted to apply in an old hotel. Design concerns and also the theme. Conceptualization process is part of this one. Fifth, is the Time Frame. We need to have clear time frame before we renovate a hotel. The length of construction period must be given attention. The number of working days per week and how many months or years it will take to finish the renovation. And lastly, the Reliable Contractor. A very good contractor will result to a perfect hotel building . A reliable contractor will make the entire work easier, faster and if possible, less expensive than expected. Also with reliable contractor, we are assured that the building will be safe because of high quality materials used by trusted architects and engineers. |

Snow Flakes Case

...Hotel “Snowflake” The hotel guests were all now sitting down to their buffet dinner and George finally had 15 minutes to get away, sit down and drink a beer on the veranda overlooking the lake and reflect upon the news he had received that morning. George, a former mechanic, and his wife of 15 years, Jean, a successful artist in her own right, had both always had a dream to own their own Bed & Breakfast – and, ten years ago, they had gone even further and bought the local, well-known, but run-down hotel that the previous owners had been unable to turn profitable. Despite their previous lack of experience in the hotel business, the couple had been very successful in renovating the old hotel while turning the business into a charming, year round mini-resort. They had even been used by the regional tourist agency as an example for others as to how to build a successful tourist business. They were a local success! The hotel was located on very large, wooded grounds on the edge of a lake near a small town of five thousand inhabitants less than 1.5 hours from the city. It was only 15 minutes from a downhill ski resort and an equal distance from a well-maintained and challenging 18-hole golf course – however, that 15 minutes was on poorly-maintained, unpaved road. A few of the locals used the hotel to take a meal on special occasions, to attend local community and cultural events held at the hotel or for a beer after a day’s fishing on the lake. However, many considered...

Modular Construction

...INTRODUCTION: There is a growing demand for the construction industry to provide better value by improved quality and performance. The 1998 DETR Egan Report ‘Rethinking Construction’ called for a culture of co-operation and greater innovation in procurement, design and construction, leading to demonstrable savings and benefits to the client, the contractor and to society in general. Modular construction uses pre-engineered volumetric units that are installed on site as fitted-out and serviced ‘building blocks’. The use of modular construction is directly influenced by the client’s requirements for speed of construction, quality, added benefits of economy of scale, as well as single point procurement. These benefits may be quantified in a holistic assessment of the costs and value of modular construction in relation to more traditional alternatives. Light steel framing is an integral part of modular construction as it is strong, light weight, durable, accurate, free from long-term movement, and is well proven in a wide range of applications. It is part of an established infrastructure of supply and manufacture and supported by British Standards and various design guides. Modular construction is also widely used in Japan, Scandinavia and the USA, where light steel framing is the primary structural medium, and leads to flexibility in internal planning and robust architectural solutions . There are also important opportunities for modular construction in extensions...

In discovering the TreeHotel innovation, research must be conducted on the customers and their product, other existing markets and competitors, and the tourism product itself. The motivation for people to choose this company could be a number of factors including: a magical experience, isolation, relaxation, adventurous activities, natural beauty, interesting architecture, and a romantic experience. Innovators would be initially attracted to the TreeHotel because it is a new creation with a unique modern design that is environmentally conscious in it’s structure. The natural and isolated atmosphere of the hotel and restaurant, that only uses ingredients from local suppliers, would pull the innovators to the hotel because of new trends that this VALS group practices. Planet Karaoke Pub was expanding fast in Thailand. It was looking for a venue in Patong beach area for setting up another outlet, and was eyeing an unused space owned by the Hotel. At this point, the space was located on the second floor of the main building and was very much under-utilised. It was reserved for the construction of an alley linking to a new wing for the hotel, which would not be completed until two years later. Planet Karaoke Pub offered to sign a four-year lease agreement with the hotel for renting part of the unused space. It proposed to pay: • a monthly rental fee of 170,000 baht for the first two years; and • thereafter, a 5% increment for the next two years. Business Feasibility Study of a Day Care Center

...Business Feasibility Study of A Home Day Care Center Muhisani Kerr OMM 614 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Josephine Carola April 9th, 2012 Executive Summary Kilo’s Loving Care is a venture that provides 24 hour home care services for children in DeKalb County. This facility provides child care services for up to 6 children from the age of 6 months to 12 years. The service also provides weekend and holiday care for parents who work non-traditional hours. There are 73 child care centers in a 35 mile radius from my location. There are franchised child care centers, regular child care centers and other home based child care centers. Only 4 of them provide 24 hour service, 2 of them provide weekend service but none of them provide holiday service. For parents who work non-traditional hours and on holidays, they are forced to seek additional childcare just for the weekends and holidays in order to care for their children. The market is not much competitive because not one of the 73 day cares provide holiday services. Due to the lack of time for themselves, daycare owners use holidays as a time to rest and bond with their own family members. This venture will ensure that their staffs receive constant training to remain up to date on the advances in child care whereby providing quality service. William Somerset Maugham: The Bayon Temple In Siem Reip

...here, sending at first secret agents, and then its full military capability. Greene’s story of his time at the hotel, is perhaps the most insightful evidence we have today of just how the 20-year Vietnam War was ushered in. Today, the Le Club Bar at the Metropole still serves Greene’s favorite drink, named in his honor. But it is not that the Metropole is simply selling its storied past – it is very much part of it. Even as recently as 2011, during renovations of the iconic Bamboo bar, a long lost bomb shelter was discovered below ground. During the early 1970s Hanoi was under heavy attack from the U.S., and the shelter provided cover for guests – including notable anti-war protestors like actress Jane Fonda and singer Joan Baez. The original shelter remains intact, a haunting reminder of the terror Hanoi’s citizens and guests faced for over two decades. But it is in the three Legendary Suites that one feels truly immersed, where a real timelessness illuminates the senses almost to the point of betraying the reality of the present. The Charlie Chaplin Suite is filled with antique furniture, with its large louver windows overlooking the old French quarter. Memories of countless romantic moments seem to fill the air like an aroma, giving the suite a compelling atmosphere that even Chaplin must have felt some eight decades ago. The Somerset Maugham suite overlooks the hotel garden and remains appointed with the finest décor from the colonial days of French Indochina. The original...

...Pasadena Playhouse Established as far back as 1917, the Pasadena Playhouse is a venue for historic performing arts. History tells us that Pasadena as a city was once just a sleepy little town mainly consisting of wealthy vacationers and farmers. This all gradually changed after an itinerant acting troupe headed by Gilmour Brown came to settle therein. Over time, the players captured the interests of the community and were given donations that allowed them to move their company out of the derelict old burlesque house into a more befitting venue in 1924. Over time, due to the impressive performance from this company, this venue was officially dedicated as the California Official State Theater. Over the years till now, the Pasadena Playhouse has...

I did not say difficult. I said diffeient. —A senior Four Seasons manager Executive Summary Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts opened its first French property in 1999. This article presents that opening as a case study to illustrate a perspective on how a company with a strong and highly successful organizational culture might approach a new national culture when that cuhure is both distinct and intense, as is the case in France. Managers can henefit from the case by understanding this approach to organizational and national culture, which the authors believe represents a useful framework for global management. The article begins with a discussion of the linkage between corporate cuifure and competitive advantage for service organizafions. It then describes the corporate support structure and the philosophy that Four Seasons developed over two decades to support its international expansion and to manage the type of challenges its French property posed. Finally, it describes how the firm went about transforming that property into one of its crown jewels.
