You and I had very similar responses! We both agreed that the clinician should respect Mrs. Nelson’s decision, even if she does not agree. It can be easy for the clinician to be tempted to administer the treatment because she wants what is best for Mrs. Nelson; however, she should not. As a clinician, she holds the obligation to her patients to respect their choice. The clinician should take steps to inform Mrs. Nelson to the best of her abilities. Once Mrs. Nelson is informed and makes her decision, the clinician must follow her request. You brought up informed refusal, which is discussed in the book. I think this is a great point.
