Prior to the second Punic War, I believe the Empire of Carthage didn't predict its outcomes neither did ancient Roman Republic, though Rome ultimately managed to conjure a victory through a series of protracted struggles, but both sides were affected badly by successive years of warfare, especially the loss of life that has caused terrible sufferings to innocent civilians, no one really know how many people were killed in those bloodthirsty battles.

As a defeated country, Carthage was forced to sign an unequal treaty, which to modern eyes, those conditions laid down to her were too harsh, even cruel, "She must surrender Spain and all her remaining islands in the Mediterranean. Since then, Rome turned Cartage into a vassal of its state, which led up this African leading power never recovered from its dismal failure. Besides, the war has bled the once-strong Carthaginian economy dry that tore families apart and brought their people only disaster. After conceding defeat in its attempt to invade Italy, Carthage acquired a brief truce by signing a peace agreement, which those unequal conditions stored up huge problems for the future.

In my view, the eventual outcomes of the second Punic War were fifty-fifty. For Rome, it steamrollered its way to victory at all costs that somehow "resulted in Roman hegemony over the western Mediterranean" (n.d.) later on. For Cartage, those military conflicts left a deep scar on its lands, people, and sovereignty.
