...What is social networking? Social Networking is defined as interactions among people in which they create, share, and exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks. With over 2.1 million Instagram followers LeBron James uses Instagram to communicate with his fans. I am a big fan of LeBron James and the Miami Heat so I follow him, the team, and a few other players. I believe he reaches his target market and gives them a look into his life outside of basketball. Anytime you go on Instagram you seem to get an inside look into the life of LeBron and his family and friends. The pictures posted on his site are very personal which leads me to believe that he updates a lot of the info himself, but with all the other commitments that athletes and entertainers have I cant imagine that they would have enough time to update all of their sites, but being that they are responsible for anything posted on their site I would hope that they have the final say on what is posted. His objective would be to communicate with his followers and keep them updated on his everyday life. With the way the “Decision” went down a couple years ago, social media was an outlet he used to repair his image and connect with fans. Honestly, the only thing that I would recommend him or any other athlete change would be to make an effort to reply a little bit more to posts from fans instead of just posting on their page and basically disappearing. Lebron Versus Jordan

...Michael Jordan versus Lebron James Michael Jordan is considered to be the most iconic person in sports history. Since 2002, Lebron James has been compared not only to be the next Michael Jordan but also having the potential of being a better basketball player than him. Some basketball fans might agree and some might disagree, but at the end of the day everyone will have their own opinion of who is better than whom. Lebron James and Michael Jordan do have many things in common even though they play different positions in the national basketball association. They both can dominate the court with their leadership, their skills, and their strength. Surprisingly, there are just as many differences as there are similarities between the legend and the soon to be if all goes well. The differences that set them apart from each other are their statistical analysis, NBA achievements, and their history with the NBA finals. The NBA has changed over the years and over those years many of basketball players have been compared to well-known basketball stars but they have never been put on a pedestal to where they’re are better than legends until now. Although Lebron James is a well –respected basketball player, he is not a better basketball player than Michael Jordan. Lebron James is no doubt a better rebounder and passer, but if you see Jordan’s stats, you will see that he is a better scorer and shooter. Lebron’s first seven season he accumulated a 27.8 point per game average along with...

Mes Cooper’s the Pioneers and the Native American Dispossession

...like Evans son suggests, Evans decides to ride into town in the morning and discuss the situation. This is where he comes across Russel Crowes character, Ben Wade, as he robs a wagon heavily guarded with Pinkerton guards. Wade is seen as a brutal but reasonable figure, especially in comparison to his partner Charlie Prince. As an outlaw, Wade can’t be a traditional hero but in the face of the greedy railroad company that is portrayed in the film as being very cruel as well, Wade is put in a kind of heroic light. Evans goes to great lengths to provide for his family and he risks death by escorting Wade to a prison train with Wade’s barbaric gang on his back for money. However, Evans really could not have achieved what he did without the cooperation of Wade, who seems to hold a certain amount of respect and sympathy for him. In the end with Evan’s death Wade kills all the members of his gang and climbs on the prison train by choice. This can only be explained by his sympathy for Evan and makes Wade a kind of heroic figure, standing up for Evans who has been victimized by the corrupt railroad company that Wade steals from. Wade clearly pities Evans and makes many sacrifices to help him and his family when he could easily kill Evans at any time and make his escape from custody. Although Evans is a very admirable character Wade is a much more heroic figure. Evans is first introduced inside of a domestic space a place that is very uncharacteristic of western heroes. From the very...

Lebron James

...“I’ve failed over and over again in my life and that is why I succeeded,” is the quote that I choose to open up my This I Believe essay and now I have branched that out into a digital story. My digital story has the songs “Cinema” and “Gotta Have It” and it is about the struggles that Lebron James had to endure in order to get his championship ring. The theme of my digital story and essay is, in retrospect, failure is success. The style of my essay and digital story is anecdotal. The combination of the theme and style in my essay and digital story is what helps incorporate the “So What?” First, already know that the theme of my essay and digital story is, in retrospect, failure is success but now I have to show you how it shown in my pieces. The theme is shown in my essay by the sentence, “The only way to learn how to ride a bike is to fail multiple times and to learn from your mistakes.” This quote from my essay depicts how the them is shown in it by giving and anecdotal explanation on how no matter how many times you might fail, the information that you gather will help you out in the end. The theme is shown in my digital story from the several pictures of Lebron James training after he lost the NBA finals in 2011 and which lead to winning the finals in 2012 because he learned from his mistakes/ failure and he succeeded. Next, you already know that the theme of my essay and digital story is anecdotal but now I have to show you it is shown in my pieces. A quote from my This...

...Leonardo Rodriguez Professor Young Intro to Academic Reading 22 September 2015 Journal Entry #1 Lebron James: Why he can't be Compared to Micheal Jordan To begin with, I chose this article because I love sports and the Lebron James-Micheal Jordan debate is on that's been going on for years. People that are huge sports fanatics and love the game of basketball can argue about this topic for hours and would not be able to come to a conclusion. One thing is for sure though. Lebron James is still active in the NBA and his career has not ended so we really don't know who's better until he retires. In sports it is natural to let our minds wonder, “ who was the greatest?” and “ will so- and - so surpass so-and-so? This entire Lebron James could be the Greatest of All Time “argument” is growing tiresome. First he's still completing his body of work. Secondly he's only won two NBA championships, the traditional measuring stick of all the NBA’s greatest players, and lastly they are two completely different players. Jordan is Jordan and Lebron is Lebron. I completely agree with this article. Maybe if Lebron James played before Michael Jordan this would be a different story, but the fact of the matter is he didn't. Lebron James is 30 years old and still has many years in the National Basketball Association. Hes going to definitely keep putting up big numbers. Hes going to make his case stronger and this debate stronger. But for now you just can't compare Lebron James to Michael...

...Winning Time The Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs have kicked off the NBA Finals in what appeared to be one of the greatest series ever. The Spurs were looking for revenge after last year’s heartbreaking defeat after being up 3-2 in the series. In game 6 of last year’s NBA Finals the Spurs looked to have it in control as Tony Parker hit a couple big shots for the Spurs with a two possession lead under a minute to play. But just when you thought the Heat were out and fans were exiting from American Airlines Arena, something special happened. LeBron James hit a huge three pointer to bring the Heat back within 2 and then Kowhai Leonard missed 1 out of 2 free throws to give the Spurs a 3 point lead with just under 20 seconds left to play. Running back on defense everybody in the world knows LeBron is taking this shot and going to try and tie the game to send it to overtime. LeBron misses; the rebound goes to Chris Bosh as he kicks it out to Ray Allen, with Mike Breen on the call as he would say “BANG, TIE GAME.” Ray Allen tied the game with 5 seconds left and from that point on everybody knew the Heat were going to win and tie up the series and eventually win in game 7. Miami would go on to be back to back champions of the NBA. This year however doesn’t seem to be that easy at all as the Spurs are up a commanding 3-1 lead with game 5 back in San Antonio on Sunday night. You could argue on which has been better, whether it’s been the Spurs offense or defense. In game 3 they set an...

...This is one of the most controversial topics in the history of NBA today. I will finally put to rest all of the doubt that Michael Jordan is, was, and will always be the best player ever to play in the NBA. Michael Jordan started his basketball career when he went to the University of North Carolina. While attending college he won a national championship and cemented that he was a great college player. ...In this paper I am going to be discussing whether, or not a NBA (PER) players efficiency rating have an impact on his salary. An NBA players efficiency rating consistis calculated in regard to his points per game, assist per game, minutes played per game, blocks per game, turnovers per game, field goal percentage, three point percentage, free throw percentage, rebounds per game. These stats are used to evaluate a player, or teams overall performance.  These statistics are important, because it help coaches decide who to put on the court in certain aspects of the game. A player’s efficiency rate also play a huge role when it comes to general managers, and team owners choosing free agents. Performing well on the court is what the NBA players get paid large sums of money to do, so it is important to have a way to evaluate their performance. The alternative hypothesis states that NBA players in-game production, combined to form their , has an effect on the player’s salary. The null hypothesis states that NBA players in-game production, combined to form their statistics, has no effect on the player’s salary.   Figure 1 is a graph of the top 10 paid NBA players, and the contracts that they are currently signed to. #1 Kobe Bryant Total earnings: $64.5 million Salary: $30.5 million Endorsements: $34 million Bryant signed a two-year, $48.5 million contract extension in November that will keep his on-court salary tops in the NBA. #2 LeBron James Total earnings: $61.1 million Salary:...

Should College Athletes Be Paid to Pay

...Today, like most of the days of the week, I played basketball at the gym. Unlike organized basketball however, pickup games in the gym have no referees, so its up to you to call your own calls. This is something I am used to. However, as the game progressed, numerous calls were made that most people wouldn’t even consider being a foul. Also, for the exception of one person, everyone else seemed okay with this. Has the sport of basketball become, for lack of a better word, soft? Now, don’t get me wrong, some calls are clearly fouls. I was watching the All Star game this past weekend and on a particular play, Kobe Bryant went for a layup and Dwayne Wade broke Kobe’s nose. None would argue that this was a clear flagrant foul. However, if you go for a layup, and my hand slightly touches yours after the ball is released, THAT IS NOT A FOUL. Progressively, basketball has become weaker and weaker. I remember the days when centers would leave the game with black eyes and bruises, when basketball was a war. These days, people leave the court looking like they did when they got on the court. I do understand that over the years, rules have been added to keep the players’ safety in mind, but at the same time, one of our countries most smash mouth sports is not the same as it used to be. Players won’t even play if they have a sore throat. MJ however played with the flu. He even received I.V.s in the locker room during half time. I’m not saying that basketball isn’t a great sport, but...

...Two of the most polarizing figures in the NBA today are Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. Kobe Bryant and Lebron James come on the top of the list just because of their remarkable performances and their achievements throughout their careers. They both have started their sports career from the school age and then they excelled in their respective sports of basketball. Kobe Bryant plays as a shooting guard for the Los Angeles Lakers and Lebron James plays for the Miami Heat. Lebron James also referred as a “King James” just because of his moves and his utmost versatility in basketball, while Kobe is referred to as the “Black Mamba”. Although they may seem to be alike the two are very different in their own respects. For instance, both players have the ability to score the ball. Kobe is a natural born scorer; many call him one of the greatest offensive players to ever play the game. Kobe averages nearly 26 points per game over his 17 year pro career; anywhere on the court Kobe is a threat because of his basketball fundamentals and ability to score from anywhere on the court. Lebron on the other hand, is also a good scorer but is not considered to be on the level of Kobe Bryant. Lebron averaging nearly 25 points per game through his career which is not bad, but he is challenged to work extremely hard for his points. However, Lebron in terms of physicality is way above Bryant. Weighing in at 260 pounds of muscle and is listed at the height of 6’9 Lebron is considered to be...

Cleveland fans took their anger to the streets by starting riots where they are burning jerseys, flipping cars, lighting garbage cans on fire, and even vandalizing the Quicken Loans arena. Cavalier’s fans feel emotionally hurt that LeBron would just leave them after rejoining them for one year, and bringing them to the NBA finals. "Why would he leave, he was supposed to bring us the championship! He promised us!" Said one fan who was in tears. "This is where he was born. He grew up on these very streets. ...Quote “Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard” -Kevin Durant The quote I chose was written by Kevin Durant. Whatke I think this quote means is that the person with the most talent doesn’t always win. It’s also saying that just because you’re the best doesn’t mean that you’re always going to be in that position. If you stop working as hard as you did to get into the position that you’re in then you can easily lose that position because there is someone out there that’s not as talented working harder. That person that is working hard is eventually going to reach a higher level of talent than you. This quote is also saying that there is always room to get better. Just because you get what you want doesn’t mean it can’t be taken away from you. Kevin Durant Born September 29, 1988 in Suitland, Maryland, is one of the most successful basketball players in the NBA right now, Kevin Durant. One of the four children born to Wanda and Wayne Pratt. After high school Durant played college ball at the University of Texas. In 2007 he was second overall in the first round of the NBA draft by the Seattle super Sonics. Kevin Durant starred in the movie “Thunderstruck’ which is tied in with his famous quote “hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard”. Kevin Durant is a hard working player. He’s earned the title of being the NBA scoring champion three times and is a three time NBA All-star. Even though Kevin Durant has achieved those major things he still...
