...1.12 What is the difference between a sample and a population? In most studies, it is difficult to obtain information from the entire population. We rely on samples to make estimates or inferences related to the population. Population means the population of the whole area. Sample means a sample of people taken out of the population to be tested or studied. 1.13 What is the difference between a statistic and parameter? The difference between parameter and a statistic is that a parameter is a number obtained by calculation from a population while statistic is a number calculated from a sample. A statistic is usually used to estimate a parameter. 1.22 A Gallup poll indicated that 74% of Americans who had yet to retire look to retirement accounts as major funding sources when they retire. Interestingly, 40% also said that they looked to stocks or stock market mutual fund investments as major funding sources when they retire. (data extracted from D.Jacobs, “Investors Look Beyond Social Security to Fund Retirement,” www.gallup.com, March 28, 2011). The results are based on telephone interviews conducted March 24, 2011, with 1,000 or more adults living in the United States, aged 18 and older. a. Describe the population of interest. They are the Americans that have not retire yet. b. Describe the sample that was collected. They are the 18 and older group of adults. c. Is 74% a parameter or a statistic? Explain. The sample may be biased because telephone sampling only samples people with telephones, and if they are available and willing to respond. 24) Stratified – because both urban and rural people are selected. The two strata are urban and rural. Bias could be an issue since a smaller percentage of the urban population will be asked relative to the percentile of rural people. However, asking enough people, regardless of background population density (urban vs. rural) may...

...Biodiversity (Macroinvertebrates) NSCI 102 In this activity, you will learn about how samples of macroinvertebrates found on stream bottoms can be analyzed to determine water quality. Macroinvertebrates are organisms with no backbone that are visible without using a microscope. Crayfish, aquatic snails, and the larvae of aquatic insects are examples of stream-bottom macroinvertebrates. Macroinvertebrates are an important link in the aquatic food chain. They feed upon algae and leaves that fall into the stream and are eaten by larger consumers, such as fish. Macroinvertebrates are useful for studying water quality because some of them cannot survive in polluted waters, while others thrive. Since stream-bottom macroinvertebrates do not generally move very far within a stream, they are excellent indicators of long-term pollution trends. Levels of pollution may vary over time, so a one-time chemical analysis of the water may not provide an accurate picture. However, if pollutants are common in a stream, the macroinvertebrates found there will primarily be the ones that are tolerant of poor water quality. In addition, macroinvertebrates are relatively easy to collect, so analyzing this community can be used to get an initial indication of water quality to see if additional chemical tests are necessary. Materials needed for this lab: - Handouts: Stream Sample A, Stream Sample B, Macroinvertebrate Key - Calculator Part 1: Identification of Macroinvertebrates ...

...In-Plant Training Report 2nd Semester (BCCT) Brandix College in clothing Technology and Management(dip 16) K.A. Vidun S. Piyasumana 2 INTRODUCTION I’m a student of Brandix College who is studying College Diploma in Textile Technology & Management where my name is K.A.Vidun S. Piyasumana. This is the Report of my second semester of my In-Plant Training program. This In-Plant training will let the diploma batch students to join to different Factories and study the whole process. Since the students are beginners to the field, BCCT provided us a guide line to adjust to this environment and continue that studying with the aid of a Guide Line. As I requested some Factories and as the College appointed me, I had to start my InPlant Training in Brandix Green Plant Seeduwa. Commencing on 14th February 2013 I started the Industrial Training for the College Diploma in Clothing Technology & Management Course under the influence and Coordination by Mr. Dinesh Sampath (HR Assistant of Brandix Casualwear Seeduwa) with so many supports & advisers. Initially after walking throughout the factory, I was introduced and guided to each section to study their process, and collect information under the influence of the department chief or Incharge and also from the Minor Staff. Most of the time I had to subject myself for self study, grab the knowledge by walking to the machine Operators and the staff and also be practical in some operations to get the real idea. So therefore...

...Research Proposal: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS ON THE IMPLICATIONS AND EFFECTS OF CORRUPTION IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN ECONOMY AND HOW IT CAN BE MANAGED About the writer: Tyson Thamsanqa Sibanda Rosebank College South Africa: Bachelor of Business Administration 3 (2015) Contact details; Tyson.msimanga@gmail.com 0027786500000 / 0027815993434 BACKGROUND AND ORIGIN Corruption in South Africa has been so widespread that, unless it is decisively tackled in this presidential term, there is a real danger that it will become embedded as a ‘normal’ aspect of life in our country. Once it becomes part of the ‘culture’ of our society, it will be almost unmanageable to uproot. Corruption is generally defined as the abuse of public office for private gain. It usually comes in two forms. Firstly, the alleged ‘big-time’ corruption which take place when public officials bend the rules to channel patronage to relatives, friends and associates, or accept bribes; as well when private agents bribe public officials to give them exclusive advantages or privileges. Secondly, there is the quiet corruption, which occurs when public servants purposefully neglect their duties to provide public services or goods. Quiet corruption may not involve an exchange of money, but involves providers of public services such as teachers, nurses or other government officials, twisting the rules for their own private welfares. This includes, for example, public servants, such as a minister or nurses not turning up for work when...

...launched their new Insights analytics for pages in June 2013. The rollout has replaced the old system gradually from this point, with a more modern-looking platform with more available data. Facebook Insights is a really useful system to understand the more basic elements of your social media analytics requirements. However, if you do want to pull out reams of data purely on your page, Facebook Insights does have its uses. There are six main tabs containing data on your Likes, Reach, Visits, Posts, and People, as well as an Overview tab covering some headline figures. There is also the ability to download extensive spreadsheets containing all of this data broken down by day at a page or post content level. This data is useful, but can be quite time consuming to analyse and comprehend, as well as not having that critical context of comparing it to other pages. If you’re new to Facebook as a business, we’d definitely recommend exploring Insights and seeing what is there for yourself as a first step. Our recommendation would be to not stop there though in your quest to truly understand your performance. FACEBOOK INSIGHTS Facebook Insights covers some of the key metrics mentioned below and contains both public and private metrics; however, it’s one major flaw is that it doesn’t include any real data to compare to on the public metrics, especially in terms of other companies. Insights has a new element where you can compare your page demographics against the Facebook average...
