Introduction
The year 1685 was known to be significant in the historical setting of European music because it saw the conception of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). The year 1685, therefore, took on the part of the marker, separating the music of essential contextual listening called "early music." The pinnacle of Bach's development started in the eighteenth century, where he created an instrumental medium known as the ripieno string ensemble. A medium that could supplement wind or percussion instruments as the occasion demanded. However, it was a period when this form of expression was not in demand due to various political, social, cultural and economic aspects making it insignificant.

The ruler for whom he met his music expectations employed Bach as Kapellmeister. Since he was Calvinist, the sovereign did not oblige the church music that Bach was accustomed to creating. However, subsequently Bach focused mainly on instrumental works despite his love for other works. In the midst of Bach's daily living, he and Leopold developed a close rapport. Their acquaintance granted Bach an opportunity to pursue what he wanted for his music since the Prince had passion for travel, the most importantly the music. Leopold treasured Bach dearly that he motivated all of Bach's works, granting him the opportunity to take part even in the court shows as a violinist, gambist, or harpsichordist occasionally. He even furnished Bach with a grand set of instruments and assembled excellent players with the second highest in salary against any of his court representatives. Bach truly enjoyed his time at Cothen, which was a time when a hefty portion of his most notable works for keyboard and chamber ensembles were composed.

In March 1719, Prince Christian Leopold of Cothen sent Bach off for Berlin. Bach was asked to make the final arrangements before buying a brand new harpsichord, which was a massive, two manual model manufactured by Michael Mierke, instrument maker to the imperial court. In the midst of his visit to Berlin, he got acquainted with Christian Ludwig (Margrave). The Margrave then requested Bach to play for him and send some of his compositions for his extensive music

In terms of originality and complexity, Bach’s compositions represent some of the most sophisticated and ambitious classical pieces to date, which through his rigorous use of counterpoint, tonal control and attention to single moods (called affects) had helped refine western music from a folk-based expressive form to a highly complex and evolved form of musical expression (Tonality).
