...Use of Microsoft SharePoint for Configuration Management in IT Organizations In the contemporary business marketplace, the requirement for a technology-based system to provide the tools for global organizations to archive and manage information has become an increasingly present issue. The use of a corporate-wide portal, supported by a collaborative, content management platform, provides an Information Management System (IMS) that culminates organizational information and intellectual capital, document storage, and collaborative workspaces into a single resource, accessible through a centralized portal interface (Microsoft, 2006, p. 14). Configuration Management (CM) encompasses the management of requirements, production, testing, technical documentation, and organizational processes during the lifecycle of a software system’s development. Within Information Technology (IT) organizations, CM defines a series of systematic controls for changes and developments to the software system, which ensure the integrity and traceability of the environment and software configuration throughout the development lifecycle. The CM process is a culmination of activities and support from each level of the organization, ensuring compliance with all applicable standards and guidelines for software development and production. ...Research Paper: Enterprise Collaboration Systems Introduction Enterprise Collaboration Systems or ECSs are systems that create team and workgroup collaboration. They enhance communications, productivity and provide support in business operations. Some basic examples of ECSs are e-mail, chat, and videoconferencing (O’Brien & Marakas, 2011). As we dive into this research paper more detailed explanations will be made of what the systems are and how they help organizations collaborate and enhance quality of work. ECSs also include applications that are sometimes called office automation systems, which are systems that create workflows to get rid of paper and create a smoother experience for users (O’Brien & Marakas, 2011). Organizations have many systems and ECSs are not ones to be left out. Information systems perform three vital roles in business firms. They support organization’s business processes and operations, give users more valuable information to help with good business decision making, and create strategic competitive advantages. Information technology, with the help of the Internet, provides us with the avenues to communicate ideas, share resources, and coordinate our cooperative work efforts. The goal of ECSs are to enable us to work together easily and effectively by helping us to, communicate, by sharing information with each other, coordinate, by helping us organize our work efforts and use of resources, and collaborate, by helping us work together cooperatively...

...How will SharePoint benefit CIS? SharePoint is a tool for departments and teams to collaborate and share information. This web based clouding platform allows users to create a collaborative site to distribute information as well as manage documents with other users. Within education SharePoint is used to create a platform where teachers, students, and parents can disseminate information amongst each other. SharePoint also provides school administrators the ability to streamline large amounts of information amongst various department and/or school on a regular basis. Taking a comparison look at SharePoint with the virtual learning environment that is currently being implemented, which is Blackboard. When using Blackboard to edit documents the user is required to download and upload the document again for collaborative editing. As with SharePoint users my use Internet Explorer to edit documents in real time with no download or upload needed. Blackboard is what you call a Virtual Learning Environment or a VLE. The main basic function of a VLE is a virtual classroom where the teacher and students can communicate. A lot of institutions are moving away from the traditional VLEs because they become expensive to maintain. Also a lot of these VLEs are an open source site with has a lack of structure support. The department can use the SharePoint platform to build their own VLE. It is a cost effective platform that can support not only education specific functionality, but also...

Much of P&G’s business is built around brand creation and management. To effectively run P&G’s business operations, it is critical that they facilitate collaboration between researchers, marketers, and managers. This is the reason that P&G has been actively implementing information systems that foster effective collaboration and innovation. In early 2000, P&G was in disarray and the company’s share price had fallen by nearly 50 percent, wiping out $85 billion in market capital (Lash, 2012). Despite spending heavily on research & development, productivity had plateaued and the company’s innovation success rate was around an unsatisfactory 35 percent (Lash, 2012). When A.G. Lafley became P&G’s CEO in 2000, he recognized that collaboration would be the key...

...I believe in keeping an open mind, open to new concepts, ideas, and thought as you never know where your learning will take you along this path called life. Just a few years ago, I was sitting at my desk, staring aimlessly at my computer screen quietly working on my mundane administrative work, when my supervisor, for whom I had worked for over 11 years, nicely requested that I follow her. Inquisitive, I slowly entered her executive office mentally wondering what this was all about. With utmost confidence, my boss began to tell me that she had decided to put me in charge of developing a SharePoint site for the unit. My questioning eyes just stared back at her as my mind filled with questions, “what in the world is SharePoint; how in the world...

...The Big Data Challenges By Jamia Yant April 19th, 2012 Introduction When Volvo separated from Ford in 2010, it was breaking free from an IT infrastructure that consisted of a tangle of different systems and licenses. The need was there to develop a new stand alone IT infrastructure that could provide better Business Intelligence, boost communication capabilities and enrich collaborations. Volvo Car Corporation Integrates the Cloud into Its Networks The ability to collectively harness the wealth of data being mined was invaluable. Volvo collects terabytes of data from embedded sensors in their cars, from their customer relationship management (CRM) systems, from dealerships, product development and design systems and from their production/factory floors. Volvo then, via the cloud, transfers and archives this Big Data to its Volvo Data Warehouse where it can be stored for Long Term Archival and Retrieval or it can be accessed by Volvo’s employees. In 2010, Volvo stretched across eight main business units and twelve support areas with production plants in 19 countries. The platform used to link employees at the business units, support and production plants together are done via Volvo’s cloud with Saas software as a user interface and display. They have employee web portals, as well as supplier and vendor web portals to improve collaboration.
