...Caring for the Earth? Should Christians become Tree-Huggers? In today’s society, many environmental issues are being casually overlooked by the same people who constantly complain about them. It is an ever increasing problem that will eventually become irreversible if we Christians do not respond to the issue with definite action. The four key elements of the Wesleyan Quadrilateral provide strong evidence that God has called humans to make a difference in the environment. Several examples that are found in scripture, proven by reason, witnessed through experience, and guided by tradition aid in proving God’s desperate plea to us to care for the earth. By using the quadrilateral in its entirety, I will be able to provide sustainable information that will create a viable conclusion to why I personally believe that Christians should indeed become “tree-huggers”. What does scripture say in terms of protecting the environment? Scripture, the norming norm of all sources, is ultimately the main stemming source which provides moral guidance in helping humankind make wise decisions. It is an outlining source that answers many, if not most, of life’s difficult questions both indirectly and directly. As far as answering the question as to whether or not Christians should become “tree huggers”, several specific instructions provided in scripture are commands given from God to His followers to treat the earth and all the nonliving things within it with good care and respect. In the beginning...

...hospitals are currently on the decline in health care America. Most health care providers have lost the true meaning of healing their patients holistically; both physically and spiritually. If healing hospitals started to come back, I believe that not only will the physical care of a patient increase. But patients will be happier and feel spiritually healed also. If healing hospitals were to make a comeback, hospitals and doctor’s offices would not seem so cold and unwelcoming to the patients. Even though there are challenges in creating a healing hospital, they are still a necessary component in the health care system for patients to feel spiritually healed when they leave. Components of a Healing Hospital Related to Spirituality Laurie Eberst, the president and CEO of Mercy Gilbert Medical Center describes a true healing hospital to, “include three key components: A healing physical environment, the integration of work design and technology, and a culture of radical loving care.” (Eberst, 2008). A Healing and Physical Environment When patients and their families enter the hospital, they are all under a lot of stress due to the illness of the patient. When a hospital provides aesthetically pleasing waiting rooms and doctor’s offices, it helps the patients and their families cope with that stress they are having. It is also important for a healing hospital to promote a quiet environment so the patients can sleep. Quiet environments can help the patient recover from their illness...

...Have you ever gone outside on a nice, windy day, and smelled the scent of freshly cut grass or the aroma of blooming flowers in your garden and thought it was wonderful. Now think about if you had gone outside just like the first time, as in weather, but all you could smell was an environmentally devastating chemical that you had sprayed on your flower bed and your grass and the air was filled with the scent of chemicals that will eventually kill us. Ecocriticism is the study of literature and the environment, its importance is that it helps to inform people of the environment and how it is being affected by the things we use on our plants. Many people have tackled this type of writing for several decades through persuasive pieces about the...

...which is important for care. I have looked over my practice assessment record and is one of proficiency and competency needed to achieve as professional care worker. I have also read the NMC code of conduct performance and ethics which states at chapter five about value to people's right to privacy and confidentiality. Feelings I felt sometime people think the manner of liaising information to them is unacceptable and the believe it breeches their confidentiality in the existence of others which I need to be aware of whenever doing any task. I am shock to have said things in an open manner {rather than being in an isolated place and my feelings are unwariness to situation and environment at a point on time and that always causes miss communication and unhelpful frame of mind to patients. There is a sense of patients losing the self-confidence reposed in staff if confidentiality is not safeguarding. Evaluation of experience In my opinion is sometimes over confidence which makes me think I can discuss information without looking the information in a critical way and exactly how sensitive the information weight and the extent of the safeguard of the information to...

...During my internship at Wright County Health and Human Services, I participated in a multitude of activities to enhance my learning experience. Per the learning contract, there are five activities that I chose to discuss throughout this paper. I chose to write about these five activities because they were insightful, and I learned a lot from doing them. Agency’s Confidentiality Policy One activity I chose to complete in my learning contract was to read and follow Wright County’s confidentiality policy within the first week of my internship. This activity falls under objective one in my learning contract: Demonstrate Ethical and Professional Behavior. This activity connects to objective one because it helped me to better understand the expectations at Wright County. Additionally, this activity made me engage in professional behaviors. By understanding their confidentiality policy, I am engaging in professional behavior because I am following the agency’s policy. Social workers must understand their roles and responsibilities in not only the social work profession, but also their role at the agency. To complete this activity, I did the training on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). This training taught me the importance of confidentiality. In addition, my supervisor and I discussed...

...Personal Nursing Philosophy My personal definition of nursing would be getting your patient to the highest level of health you can in your time with them while incorporating their family, environment, and beliefs/culture with a high level of critical thinking at all times. The American Nursing Association defines it as “the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations” (ANA, 2012). The quality of nursing care can be the difference in life and death. Nurses provide the backbone of care to the patients’ and serve as the main mediators for the whole health team to make sure everyone is on the same page in care while advocating for the patient. Nurses are key to primary education for the patient and families, which provides for continuity of care and keeping healthy. When developing a personal philosophy it is important to be aware of ones values, beliefs, strong characteristics, and also one’s weaknesses to be more apt to catch possible mistakes. No one theory will work for every setting or patient, nor will one perfectly apply to your personal values and beliefs. “Philosophy is an attitude towards life and reality that evolves from each nurse’s beliefs” (Edwards, 1997). Picturing a good nurse is envisioning someone who has mastered the art of caring with collaboration...

...involves care workers from Monica Court and I will be discussing the progress of the residents who are maintained within the care home, I will also be discussing the medication throughout the care home and the plan for the medication. I also spoke about whether or not the clients feel comfortable throughout the care home when discussing their personal needs. It will also be suggested on whether or not it will be necessary to have training days once a month to help to improve the professional standards throughout the care home itself. Dave was the manager and was running the group interaction and Nicola and Marie are the senior care workers. Everybody spoke formally to ensure that it was understood that what was being discussed was serious and improvements needed to be made. Context- In the group interaction the people were involved was Dave who is the manager and Nicola and Marie who are the senior carers throughout the home. They are going to be discussing how the care home can be improved and what parts of their professional careers will need to be put in, in order to ensure that the service users throughout the home are getting the best professional care of which is possible. Verbal listening and responding skills-Throughout this case study the language in which I used was effective and formal as I understand that this kind of language used in an interview can ensure that the other care workers in the interview understand that the conversations being spoken about were serious...

...independent comparison of one’s personal values and those of NSW Health. This work will analyze the influence of these values on health teams and demonstrate how NSW Health leaders may use these values to impact effectively on patient’s healthcare. An independent evaluator needs to follow the criteria that ensure professional practice. I adopted my values in a collage characterized by strong family bondage and commitment, sharing, love, happiness and family pets. This collage values happiness, wealth and family bondage than other matters in life. I express my vision for a happy family, values and goals to measure progress. My vision aims to ensure family safety, health and togetherness. In order to have a happy family, one must attend to all their needs including shelter and food. One also has to try and be the best father or mother and thus promote common family values that ensure commitment, guidance, respect and openness in the family relationships. I upholds these values as a consequence of ill-upbringing. There was no care for me during my early life. There was also no such a thing as rights to be provided. After a deep soul-searching, I...

...Building a Personal Framework I have spent most of career practicing nursing in the surgical setting. I was a staff nurse on an orthopedic surgical unit for the first two and a half years after graduating from an associate’s degree nursing program. I then went back to my home of the Operating Room (OR), previously working as an OR Assistant prior to going to nursing school. I joined the cardiovascular team in the OR during my orientation period and absolutely loved it. Four years later I began my journey in nursing leadership. My first leadership position was the supervisor of an operating room, and was promoted to a nurse manager a few years later. Looking back, I’m not sure how I remained in management, I had little to no mentorship or guidance. Since then I have developed a passion for mentoring nurses and helping them be successful in both staff and leadership roles. Performing both inpatient and outpatient procedures, I get to be involved in the care of healthy and ill adult patients undergoing surgery, endoscopic procedures, and pain management procedures. I have a holistic approach to nursing care, and place the patient in the center of the care they receive during their stay. Of course, there are times during a patient’s stay, the focus must be placed in a particular area, such as patient safety in the operating room. Another important focus while the patient is undergoing surgery is the patient’s family and loved ones. We adopted a standardized process for...

...Watson's Theory of Human Caring Watson's Theory of Human Caring Theory of caring, Watson has taught me how healthcare providers should practice loving, and kindness to our patients and others. Watson’s theory is not only for patients, but it is for everyone who works in the healthcare industry. Loving, and caring for each other would establish a trusting relationship that will be remembered for a long time. There are four carative factors that I practice on daily basis which they are the humanistic-altruistic system of values, development of sensitivity to oneself and others, promoting and accepting the expression of positive and negative feelings, and the supportive, protective, and/or corrective mental, physical, societal, and spiritual environment. I am going to represent an example of how I have been practicing these four carative factors on daily nursing basis. Caring Moment Watson (2006) described caring as, “acknowledged as transpersonal, involved with the one caring as well as the one being cared for, and it is mutual” (p 90). According to Watson in the caring moment, this moment can become a part of our life history for each other, and the relationship will form deeper between nurse and patient. The caring moment will initiate a healing ability. Nurses will need to show that they really care for their patients during this historical moment by listening to patient attentively, acknowledge how the patients feel, and make eye contact. Alligood (2010) stated...

...affects the entire family and not only an individual, plus, the effectiveness of health care is improved when emphasis is placed on family (Harmon & Hansen, 2001). There was no conceptual theoretical framework that was found in family nursing. Friedman, Bowden and Jones (2003), discussed the lack of a complete family nursing theory with their proposal “nurses must draw upon multiple theories to work effectively with families” (p. 62). This particular subject matter will discuss the family system and theories related to the up-and-coming to unite with family nursing. This will also portray stratagem to integrate nursing theories in the practice of family nursing. This includes family work as a system, concept of area of nursing practice, most helpful area in my nursing of practice, chosen concept of family and why is it helpful, theories conducive in the area of my practice and last, the conclusion. Family work as a system Family must first define themselves to have a better understanding on how to work as a family nursing system. In real life family is composed primarily mother, father, single, and married children. Family must have unity to function well. Each member of the family should first learn themselves how to become aware of their own characteristics in functioning within the family system. Family systems theory suggests that persons must study initially about themselves, differences of uniqueness; emotionally and how to convene with good interactions...

...exists a systematic approach aimed at maintaining as well as improving the quality of medical health care within a given health system- this is what is referred to as Clinical Governance. This paper aims at discussing various issues to do with clinical governance as well as the practice of Nursing. Learning Activity One Introduction There are three major aspects of professional performance that have been discussed; these are professional accountability expected from the practitioners to their clients, their fellow staff as well as to the organizations that they work for. There is also the need to have a system through which there will be appraisals for good performers within a health facility that will encourage the others to provide exemplary service and finally, clinical governance which is a vehicle that tackles all the wide differences in the quality of healthcare provided to the patients throughout the world. It is important to note that there has been a difficulty in the past to produce a universally approved definition of clinical quality. It is the framework that is used to enhance clinical excellence (Department of Health, 2008). Aspects of efficiency or resource usage discussed Information delivery is a major issue that clinical governance seeks to address. It should be noted that every health care organization requires having a rich information environment, it should be noted that information forms a...
