Social Responsibility Strategy Report

Overview
Radharani Yoga Sanctuary (RYS) is a brand-new, small business located in Portland, OR. Currently, the company has start up funding, is looking for a storefront and plans to open its doors within the next 6 months. RYS would like to offer the community yoga classes, meditation sessions, dance classes, community events, workshops, Yoga Teacher trainings, and socially responsible retail.

Objectives
The main business objective in opening the studio, is to maintain and run the studio based on yogic principles, while bringing in a profit. Living in harmony with self, community, and the planet is at the core of these principles. While the exchange of money for the ancient practice of yoga is relatively a new concept, in this modern day and age the majority of teachers need to make a living and require payment for their service. This correlates to the socially responsible business principle of “Triple Bottom Line”. Triple Bottom Line refers to focusing on three factors in business: people, planet, and profit.

Leadership Considerations (People)
Under the “People” category there are 2 main groups : Leadership and community. Leadership includes the individuals running the studio and community includes every person or organization that has a relationship with the studio.

The owner of RYS is currently looking for a studio manager. Within the job profile, the owner has utilized characteristics of socially responsible leadership. The manager is the facilitator of business between the community and the studio. The most important quality is that the manager exhibits ethical behavior. It is important to establish and maintain a culture of high ethical standards- the manager is the face of the business and strong public interest depends on these standards even

The Social Policy Responsibilities and Tasks of Local Government in Poland

...Dr Tomasz Kaźmierczak University of Warsaw The social policy responsibilities and tasks of local government in Poland Introduction In Poland, local social policy consists primarily of welfare assistance, i.e. the domain covering a range of universal (categorical) social services and means-tested monetary benefits. An important part of Poland's social security system, welfare assistance is guided by the principles of personalized support and discretional decision-making.  Unlike the old-age and disability pension system - a pillar of the country's social security framework - which remains centrally administered, welfare assistance is almost entirely devolved to local government. Local authorities are wholly responsible for the provision and - to a lesser extent - financing of statutory welfare benefits and services. In addition, non-governmental organizations have taken on an increasing role in social service delivery over recent years, although this varies greatly by area. Regardless of local disparities in the availability of non-governmental service providers, authorities are obligated to cooperate with them. By contrast, the presence of profit-oriented companies in social service provision remains fairly marginal. Poland's current institutional regime, including its social-policy model (i.e. the organizational structure and instruments, the division of roles between the state, for-profit and non-profit sectors and the relationships between the state...

...Task 1: Ethical Situations in Business Assessment Code: EST1 Student Name: Student ID:   Date: Task A Peter Drucker once wrote (n.d.), “profits for a company is like oxygen for a person. If you don’t have enough of it, you’re out of the game. But if you think your life is about breathing, you’re really missing something”. What Drucker meant is it’s not all about the almighty dollar; today’s businesses are expected to participate in corporate citizenship to fulfill its responsibility to contribute financial and human resources to the community to improve the quality of life. Unfortunately, Company Q operates as if their purpose is breathing. Gross profit margins for grocery stores are very low, especially in high crime districts. In order to survive businesses must be able to sell products customers want and be able to promote their store throughout the neighborhood to differentiate themselves from the competition. Company Q attitude toward social responsibility is very poor. A decrease in customer retention has clearly affected store sales because they hesitated offering healthy related foods. Selling high margin organic food products in a poor neighbor shows a lack of common business knowledge. The lack of sensitivity Company Q has towards their customers has forced them to buy from other stores. The absence of top management driving social responsibility has allowed the store workers to become poor corporate citizens. Company Q’s lack of social responsibility...
