...PESTEE Analysis Korea Political Analysis Political factors refer to political situation of the country and the extent to which it may affect and interfere with the project. Political system of South Korea has undergone a huge transformation to become a democratic country in 1987. South Korea became a stable democracy with strong political and economic support from the US The political landscape of the country include centralization of power which the implementation of economic reforms became faster and effective so that the country was fully focused on economic development and friendly to foreign investments, especially strengthening foreign relationships with emphasis on EU. According to economic forecast, South Korea is to become the seventh largest economy in the world within next ten years. Though the fact the relationship with North Korea remain tense and uneasy, the government aims to solve this situation in better way. Since crisis in 1997, the government opened the South Korean market to foreign investors by identifying Foreign direct investment (FDI) and abolished the harmful regulations on foreigner shareholdings in domestic companies. The taxation system and particularly corporate tax in South Korea was simplified encouraged foreign investments. |Current strengths: |Current challenge |Future prospects | |Centralized power of attorney |Military violence still...

...Technology in South Korean Introduction The Republic of South Korea is one of the priority partners of the European Union (EU) in the global economy and has been historically known for technological innovation. Moreover, with a highly educated workforce and well equipped infrastructural facilities, the country is a favoured destination for R&D. The impressive economic and technological progress South Korea has been demonstrating for last several decades has brought the country to the forefront of the global powerhouses and South Korea is the most wired country, in terms of communications and internet facilities, in the world. The gap between innovation and commercialization is also very small in South Korea. Korea is also among the most technologically advanced and digitally connected countries in the world and a recognized market leader in electronics, mobile communication and the automotive sector. Current strengths ▪ Firm telecom sector South Korea has world's highest broadband internet subscription rate, while the country’s 68% mobile-phone penetration rate is also one of the highest in the world. South Korea also introduced the world's first commercial wireless broadband (WiBro), satellite digital media broadcast (DMB), and telephonic-DMB services. All these developments act as major attractions to foreign technology investors to set up their R&D centers in the country. ▪ Presence of large global and domestic players The powerhouses of South Korean economic growth...

...security concerns because they are exposed to a great amount of potentially untrusted or hostile content than most other applications. Every year there is an increased reliance on browsers and their plug-ins as the Internet becomes more integral to business and leisure activities. Attacks can originate from malicious websites as well as legitimate websites that have been compromised to serve malicious content. Browsers also facilitate client-side attacks because of their use of plug-ins and other applications in handling potentially malicious content served from the Web, such as compromised documents and media files. According to recent statistics from late 2009, there was an increase in the market share of Chrome, Firefox, and Safari at the expense of Internet Explorer over the course of the year. Symantec speculates that security concerns may have been a factor in the shifting browser demographics. While it is certain that the increase in the percentage of Internet Explorer 8 users is due to installations of Windows 7, which includes the browser by default, enhanced security is also believed to be a factor in its increased use even as Internet Explorer loses market share overall. The shifting market share should not significantly endanger browsers other than Internet Explorer in terms of attacks in the wild as it is unlikely that a tipping point has yet been reached that will make the development of concerted attacks on other browsers sufficiently profitable to be viable. ...

...After the war between North Korea and South Korea the North stayed communist but the South went back to its natural state meaning that it was not communist. -- Well, North Korea and South Korea went to war in the late 40's or early 50's (before then, Korea was one whole country.). The economy and government are very different between the two countries. South Korea is a perfectly good country. They have cell phones and cars and internet and they're a democracy (things you probably take for granted if you live in the US or Canada or South Korea or pretty much any other free country). But in North Korea things are different. Kim Jong ll rules over North Korea. In North Korea, people are pretty much brainwashed from a young age that the ruler of the country is always right, no matter what, and there's nothing you can do about that. North Korea doesn't have internet, and even though there's a few buses there, there's no such thing as a traffic jam there. They just started allowing cell phones, only a few people have them. International calls and texts aren't allowed. North Korea is basically a country that's closed off from the rest of the world. It's very difficult to leave the country. You might not be able to leave without a good reason, and if you do get to leave you might not be able to come back. It's pretty hard to travel there too- you can't just hop on a plane and fly there. Of course people do escape from time to time- but most people don't even try, don't even think...

...Informatics 101 September 11, 2015 The article I have chosen to write about concerns the Internet cyber attacks that took place a few years back in South Korea. The cyber attack plagued over 32,000 computers and servers with a virus or “computer bug” (Bits and Bytes Powerpoint, Onesti & Richart). The virus crashed multiple computers and enabled them all to function extremely slow, or not function at all. This attack was targeted at banks and broadcasting computers (Pearson). Sources say that these attacks were traced to an IP address in China. However, this does not mean that China was at fault. The article states that North Korea is under suspicion for these cyber attacks. In lecture, we spoke a lot about the Internet and also something called a “computer bug” (Bits and Bytes Powerpoint, Onesti & Richart). Before lecture I did not know the origin behind the term computer bug, however, I learned that it was a literal bug found in the machine that was blocking one of the tubes in the computer, disabling it from doing its job. Later, the term eventually came to mean something that inhibited the computer from working properly. The hackers that caused disturbance in South Korea hacked the computers of many banks and broadcasting companies with a bug. In lecture we also discussed the importance and meaning of information. Information is data, and data is created by the users of the Internet (Onesti & Richart). During this hacking, there was a mass amount of information that...

...Bringing Western Culture to South Korea via Nursing Home, Plastic Surgery, Clothing and Makeup Jacob Schwarz Executive Summary My reason for writing this study is to determine the feasibility of building a nursing/retirement home, a plastic surgery outpatient center, and a cosmetic and clothing store in Seoul, South Korea. In my opinion, South Korea is welcoming to this venture; this can be seen in the upcoming research. In this report, I explore the geography of Seoul, South Korea. I learn of the growing, large, population and the population density of 45,000 people per square mile (“Population Statistics,” 2013). Next, I review the demographics and find out that minority groups consist of 2.2% of the population (Population Statistics, 2013). While reviewing the demographics I found that the education system is extremely strict; though it is more lenient now, it is still success driven (Chakrabarti, 2013). I also found that religion is not going to be an issue with this venture, in my opinion. There are two major religions; the major Christian religion will be implemented in the venture (Koo, n.d.). Education and demographics are important to a global business venture, though I believe the economy is most important. I present information about South Korea’s economy, and how it has transformed from an aid recipient to a donor country (Globalization, n.d.). Here is where I mention the chaebol’s success, which accounted for 55.7% of South Koreas GDP in 2010 (Globalization...

In order to overcome these limitations, a mathematical diffusion model with verified official time-series data is used to analytically investigate the impact of both innovation and imitation effects on the mobile phone adoption in South Korea. The results showed that the imitation effect of the first mover was larger than those of the followers in the mature mobile telecommunication services market in South Korea. The innovation effect of the follower was larger than that of the first mover, and the innovation effect was larger than the imitation effect in the market. ...REGIONAL STUDIES PAPER ON SOUTH KOREA 1. Have you ever sat back and wondered what it would be like to live in another country. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of South Korea? Most likely it will probably be the Korean War or maybe even the 1988 Olympics. You may even, some day, be stationed there. I personally experienced the country first hand through a tour between 1988 and 1989. Korea is one of our major theaters of operation so it is very important for us to understand a little about their culture and where they came from to prepare for any future missions or tours in their arena. In order to introduce us to this fascinating country we will initially talk about their rich history. We will then cover a little about the people and their culture and finally, we will discuss their economy. Now that we have a vector, let’s start by discussing South Korean history. 2. Many historical events following World War II have culminated to shape the South Korea that you and I know today. The country came into being immediately following World War II, as a result of a 1945 agreement which made the 38th parallel the boundary between them and neighboring North Korea. The new republic was proclaimed on Aug. 15 and was recognized as the legal government of Korea by the United Nations (UN) on Dec. 12, 1948. On June 25, 1950, North Korean Communist forces launched a massive surprise attack on South Korea, quickly overrunning Seoul, the capital city...

...Economic Reform in South Korea: An Unfinished Legacy by Marcus Noland, Peterson Institute for International Economics Paper prepared for the conference "Korea as a 21st Century Power" University of Cambridge April 3-6, 2002 © Peterson Institute for International Economics Introduction Since 1997 South Korea has been on an economic and political roller coaster. Between 1997 and 1998 forecasts of annual economic growth swung from +7 percent to -7 percent, and the country elected Kim Dae-jung, former dissident, future Nobel Peace Prize winner (and University of Cambridge honoree), and avowed economic reformer, president. However President Kim's weak electoral position—he was with only a plurality of support and forced to form a governing coalition with an ideologically dissimilar conservative party—and the continuing regional nature of South Korean politics have impeded the formation of a stable political coalition in favor of reform. Today, despite the enormous political power granted to the executive under the South Korea constitution, Kim is effectively a lame duck. Constitutionally limited to a single term, he confronts a hostile national assembly controlled by the political opposition, his personal popularity has fallen below 30 percent, and his party is trailing in public opinion polls in the run-up to December's presidential elections. Yet in spite of these challenges, a hundred other countries would envy the forecast of 5 percent growth and five percent unemployment...

...Country and Culture Assignment (South Korea) City University Ivan Wong BSM 404 My name is Ivan Wong and I come from Indonesia. In this article, I will write a review and comparison between 2 countries; those are Indonesia and South Korea. Republic of Indonesia with a motto of ‘Bhinneka Tunggal Ika’ (Unity in Diversity) is a sovereign country located in Southeast Asia and Oceania. Indonesia stands in latitudes 11°S and 6°N, and longitudes 95°E and 141°E. It consists of 34 provinces and 17,508 islands (approximately around 6000 islands are inhabited). Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia or also known as ‘Special Capital Region of Jakarta’ and it is located in Java Island. Rainfall is the main variable of Indonesia’s climate and it has mostly tropical climate. Temperatures in Indonesia are listed as; coastal plains averaging 28 degree Celsius, inland and mountains averaging 26 degree Celsius, and higher mountain regions averaging 23 degree Celsius. There are only 2 seasons in Indonesia, dry season (June to September) and rainy season (December to March). Indonesia is one of those countries that using presidential system, the country is lead by president and vice president. President of Indonesia is the head of state, head of government, commander in chief, director of domestic governance, policy making, and foreign affairs. ...led to increased Internet access for the casual home user and the phenomenon of compulsive-impulsive behavior disorders related to Internet addiction disorder (IAD) and excessive, problematic computer use. If every drug that is abused yields a level of gratification, then based upon a person’s use and frequency, it would appear that social networking activities (Facebook, MySpace, blogging, Twitter and instant messaging, multiplayer online games, e-mail, online gambling, etc.) must afford some users similar gratification. Perhaps the chief component and allure of these social network forums for some is the level of anonymity, the possibility and excitement for reconnecting with past friends and relationships, and perhaps just the inherent instant communication and social connection with others who share similar interests via online environments. Arguably for some individuals, social networking sites fulfill an unmet real life social need, which therefor reinforces the excessive or prolonged computer use. In fact, the success and pervasiveness of the social networking platforms has even permeated its way into business sector via sites such as Linked-In and corporate sponsored social network sites, as a means for individuals to network professionally or to gain new customers through instant information and visibility saturation of products and services. However, for all the potential benefits of social networking, an unfortunate outcome of this pervasive Internet access and social...

...this growing interest is reflected in the increasing number of K-pop acts that have performed here. “Now, you can see at least one K-pop act performing here every three months.” DiGi, which has been hosting various K-pop “parties” with stars like 4Minute, Beast, G.NA and recently Jay Park, is also a proponent of K-pop here. “K-pop is a music genre that is very close to the hearts of our customers, especially among the youths,” DiGi's head of marketing services Sulin Lau had said at a press conference promoting K-pop star Jay Park. In fact, a KTO survey conducted in May last year showed that K-pop has indeed overtaken K-drama as the main purveyor of Hallyu in Malaysia and elsewhere. The survey revealed that, driven mainly by the Internet and social media network, more than 53.3% of 12,085 fans from 102 countries chose K-pop as the Hallyu aspect that interested them most. The K-pop influence online was proven when YouTube invited K-pop stars TVXQ and Kara to headline its seventh anniversary concert in California recently. The 22,000 fullhouse reception for the concert reflected how the K-pop fanbase has grown not only in size but also range. In June last year, the European media was blown away by how a concert in Paris by unknown artists (to them) from a faraway land managed to sell out within minutes. Another date was added, but it was sold out...

...electricity, the internet and other technologies. Much of South East Asia is also ‘switched off’. However within countries there is a large variation in level of development. Rural areas are typically far more disconnected and access to technology is very limited. In cities, especially Capitals and larger cities, for example Lagos in Nigeria have widespread technological access. Figure 1 – Energy consumption per person, by country, 2009 Figure 1 – Energy consumption per person, by country, 2009 Sub-Saharan Africa is the most ‘switched off’ region in the world with less than 2% of the population with internet access and widespread ‘low human development’ ranking in over 25 African countries. The vast majority of sub Saharan Africans fall under the lowest two categories of energy consumption, this means they use less than 9 btu a year. This compares with an average of 313 million btu/yr in the USA. (See Figure 1) However some technology is prevalent; mobile telephone technology is on the rise, mobile devices are increasingly popular in Africa, with many people owning their own phones despite not having electricity access in their homes. This has had a knock on effect with many mobile phone charging businesses starting. Africa has ‘leapfrogged’ the landline telephone stage of telecommunications technology and mobile phones are widely used. However not all African countries are disconnected. South Africa for example ranks 5th in the world for mobile date usage and internet user growth...
