...Dublin-based rock band U2. Bono was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, and attended Mount Temple Comprehensive School where he met his future wife, Alison Stewart, and the future members of U2. and has refurbished and owns The Clarence Hotel in Dublin with The Edge. He was raised in the Northside suburb of Finglas Although Bono was the second child, he also attended Church of Ireland services with his mother and brother. Bono was 14 when his mother died on 10 September 1974 after suffering a cerebral aneurysm at her father's funeral. Other songs focus on the theme of childhood vs. maturity, such as "Into the Heart", "Twilight" and "Stories for Boys". Bono attended Mount Temple Comprehensive School, a multi denominational school in Clontarf. During his childhood and adolescence, Bono and his friends were part of a surrealist street gang called "Lypton Village". Bono met one of his closest friends, Guggi, in Lypton Village. The gang had a ritual of nickname-giving. Bono had several names: first, he was "Steinhegvanhuysenolegbangbangbang", "Bono Vox" is an alteration of Bonavox, a Latin phrase which translates to "good voice". It is said he was nicknamed "Bono Vox" by his friend Gavin Friday. He initially disliked the name; however, when he learned it translated to "good voice", he accepted it. Hewson has been known as "Bono" since the late 1970s. Although he uses Bono as his stage name, close family and friends also refer to him as Bono, including fellow band members. The couple...

...(Paul 297, 284). Of the ten teams in the conference at the time, the University of Mississippi was the last to integrate (Paul 287). This integration of the team took place ten years after the University itself was integrated. Not only did the school refuse to integrate until years after other teams had already done so but, they also refused to come in contact with any integrated team: “There was no written law prohibiting Mississippi teams from pkaying against black athletes, but legislators threatened to withdraw funds from schools violating this unwritten law. The university of Mississippi, ranked number two, would not play Michigan State, ranked number one, in the bowl game to determine the nation’s top football team in 1961” (Paul 284-5). This long and fought off integration of the university’s football program derives from its deep history of racism. Many of the predominant and well thought of symbols of Ole Miss football are directly related to slavery, white supremacy and racism. The Confederate flag was seen at all football games and carried by both fans and cheerleaders. The lyrics of the school’s unofficial fight song, “Dixie,” tell of the times of the slavery ridden South. The team’s nickname, the Rebels, arose as a result of the Ole Miss students who sacrificed their lives for the Confederate army. The nickname for the school itself was the name for Ole Master’s wife during the slavery age (Oriards 80). Michael Oriards explains it best...

As an enthusiast of World War II I would like to tell you about three soldiers whom in there own ways helped shaped a war. In my own right I have served in the United States army and with those experiences and tales I have learned a great deal about war and the Soldiers who fought it. The three gentlemen that I will present are as follows Audie Murphy, Desmond Doss, and Richard D. Winters. These men were average run of the mill men who would shape the war in their own ways. At the ripe age of twelve Murphy...

...Rand’s rise to the prominence coincided with a broad cultural, political and social change in America that took place in the context of the Cold War. Fighting against the common enemy in the war had briefly improved the relations between United States and Great Britain on one side and Soviet Union on the other, but once the war ended any hopes of more permanent cooperation faded quickly. If 1945 Yalta conference had closed on an optimistic note, then Potsdam meeting a few months later already ended in disappointment, as it became clear that former allies had very different views of what would constitute a fair post-war settlement and balance of powers. Less than a year later, on March 5, 1946 Churchill gave his famous “Sinews of Peace” address...

...Blues vs Country music According to Etta James in an interview with American Chronicle: "The Blues and country are first cousins ... What I look for in a song is for the story to be for real. I like a blood and guts kind of thing. That's what you find in the lyrics of country music." Blues and country music both developed in the 19th century in the Southern United States. They share a similar history. For this reason, they share many of the same musical and lyrical characteristics. Read more: How to Compare Blues & Country Music | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/how_5888119_compare-blues-country-music.htInstructions 1. * 1 Learn the history behind blues and country music. They are both forms of American folk music influenced by earlier styles brought overseas. Blues music grew out of field hollers and chants sung by African slaves. Irish and Scottish balladeers borrowed the guitar and banjo of blues and thus created "country". According to Reebee Garofalo in "Rockin' Out: Popular Music in the USA", "Terms like country and blues are only used to separate the same kind of music made by blacks and whites ... designations like race and hillbilly intentionally separated artists along racial lines and conveyed the impression that their music came from mutually exclusive sources." Country is an offshoot of blues. They are essentially the same thing. In the PBS special, "Rhythm, Country and Blues," country is referred to as "white man's blues." * 2 Listen to...

Caesar’s ultimate goal was to become Rome’s first king and he remained focus on this goal until his death in 44BC. His death was as a result of fate and his refusal to acknowledge the many signs and omens that foreshadowed his fall. Brutus a very good friend of Caesar also took part in his assassination. Brutus feared that Caesar would become a tyrant and harm the people of Rome. In an attempt to ‘save’ the people Brutus helped Cassius to take Caesar’s life. After Caesar’s death he is avenged by his loyal servant Antony who skillfully manipulates his way into the band of conspirators. Later, after winning the love of the people Antony pursues and conquers Brutus’ and Cassius’ forces. Refusing to be taken back to Rome in shame Brutus and Cassius kill themselves in a similar yet ‘completely’ different way. The play is not just a tragedy because of the death of numerous characters but also because of Brutus’ reasons for becoming apart of the conspiracy. It is the fact that Brutus falls because of his love for his country and its people that also make the play Julius...

Although it only lasted one day, it was minorly destructive, both physically and mentally. Nazi Storm Troopers stood in front of Jewish-owned shops, preventing anyone from entering and the Star of David was painted on the shops’ windows and doors. There were even signs posted that warned Germans not to buy from Jewish-owned stores or to not trust Jews at all (“The Boycott of Jewish Businesses” par. 3). The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum writes that, before April 1, “Although German Jews continued to encounter some discrimination in their social lives and professional...

And for what does he hold the thunders in his right hand, if not to smite the oppressor, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the spoiler?” These are rhetorical questions because Douglass doesn’t proceed to answer them, but they are asked in order to get the reader engaged and view the way he sees acts of God.
