...financing infrastructure * Impact of Infrastructure on Economic Growth. * Conclusions and recommendations * References Introduction * Generally, a consensus has developed that, under the right circumstances, infrastructure evolution can play a major role in improving growth and equity-and, through those two channels, help to eradicate poverty. * However, in spite of this acknowledged aspects and their importance, sub Saharan Africa “SSA” falls behind other regions in infrastructure services and its quality, and this gap is increasing over time. * This is intensely showed in the energy sector, with around 800 million population, the 48 sub Saharan Africa countries produce all together about as much power as Spain, which has only 5.5% of the population of the SSA countries. * Investment in maintaining the current infrastructure is also lagging behind, leaving many African countries with deteriorated and inefficient infrastructure services; conditionally poor roads, railways, ports and weak information and communication technology services. * The depressing situation of infrastructure deficiencies is also combined with the unpredicted urban growth which resulted in the explosion of informal settlements (slums) all over the African continent (Blinde and mayor, 2001). * Another characteristic of urbanization in SSA is that it’s...

...Migration and its impact on the labor market Case Study: Romania "Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is symbolic as well as actual beauty in the migration of the birds...There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature - the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after the winter..."(Rachel Carson) 1. General theoretical aspects of migration. Historical and social perspective Migration is defined as a "change from a social, economic, political and / or cultural environment to another, in order to develop a project and answer to any individual or group expectations." Migration phenomenon has always existed, resulted through transhumance, invasions, colonization and crusades, generally caused by the attraction of the richest regions on the poorest populations. Labor migration is the supportive factor of globalization,'' a process that allows reducing geographical constraints on social and cultural processes in which individuals are increasingly aware of this." There is currently no state or part of the world that does not import or export workforce. During the 20th Century the migration process developed significantly. In this period, Romania was predominantly a country of emigration and still is. Acording to some sources, by 1914, a large number of people decided to cross the Atlantic Ocean, most focusing on the U.S. and Canada, the rest of them going to...

...Arpanet, was fist deployed in 1969 (Abbate 1999). But it was in the 1990s when it was privatized and released from the control of the U.S. Department of Commerce that it diffused around the world at extraordinary speed: in 1996 the first survey of Internet users counted about 40 million; in 2013 they are over 2.5 billion, with China accounting for the largest number of Internet users. Furthermore, for some time the spread of the Internet was limited by the difficulty to lay out land-based telecommunications infrastructure in the emerging countries. This has changed with the explosion of wireless communication in the early twenty-fist century. Indeed, in 1991, there were about 16 million subscribers of wireless devices in the world, in 2013 they are close to 7 billion (in a planet of 7.7 billion human beings). Counting on the family and village uses of mobile phones, and taking into consideration the limited use of these devices among children under five years of age, we can say that humankind is now almost entirely connected, albeit with great levels of inequality in the bandwidth as well as in the efficiency and price of the service. At the heart of these communication networks the Internet ensures the production, distribution, and use of digitized information in all formats. According to the study published by Martin Hilbert in Science (Hilbert and López 2011), 95 percent of all information existing in the planet is...

...Background Paper submitted to the Committee on India: Vision 2020 Telecom Sector in India: Vision 2020 Manas Bhattacharya*, IES (Deputy Director General (Finance), Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications & IT, Government of India) The views exposed in this paper are that of the authors not of the Planning Commission Telecom Sector in India: Vision 2020 by Manas Bhattacharya*, IES (Deputy Director General (Finance), Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications & IT, Government of India) Introduction The purpose of this paper is to construct a vision of Indian telecom sector for the year 2020, i.e., about two decades from now. Development being a continuous process, the choice of the year 2020 is just an arbitrary division of time, a pre-defined time horizon to take stock of what is likely to be achieved. Pre-portrayal of a stage of development in future requires understanding of the process of change, the dynamics that set law of motion. In attempting to do so, the present paper deciphers the recent past. Process of change is often volatile and responsive to intervention and global circumstances impacting it. In such an inherently dynamic situation it is convenient to assume that cross-country experiences incubate the most recent seeds of change. This is because countries at various stages of development encapsulate developmental experiences that occur with the passage of time. The present paper isolates...

The focus of this research is to discover at what extent security and privacy factors contribute to the adoption of e-commerce. This study has been designed to explore why online shopping is growing so fast among some users, and so slowly among others. 2051 questionnaires were distributed by using different media such as email and Internet to the subjects and received back only 21% questionnaires from respondents. The result shows that all of the independent variables played important roles in determining the adoption of e-commerce and created a gap between users who are adopting e-commerce and those who have not. The finding also shows that there are two significant factors, making an impact on the adoption of e-commerce, which are the user’s educational background and their understanding of security features implemented by the vendors. 1 INTRODUCTION The United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) has made major efforts to establish itself as an e-commerce hub in the Middle East region and established itself on a par...
