In addition throughout it will examine the teachers’ role in developing high-quality mathematical dialogue. To some, the ability to reason may seem like a simple skill, however in order for a person to reason there are many fundamental skills which must be first developed. The Using and Applying Guidance Paper (DfES,2006) believes before children are able to reason they must first acquire a confidence with solving problems and thinking logically. Then they should develop the ability to ‘represent’ the problem, choosing key information and using mathematical calculations, pictures and diagrams to record their thinking. Next they must develop the skill of enquiring, asking questions to further their understanding of a problem. Finally they are able to develop their understanding of reasoning and communication. According to the Using and Applying Guidance Paper (DfES,2006) to enable a child to reason they must be ‘taught how to describe, interpret and explain what they see and how to use...

Art-Based Intervention Paper

...Using 90 college students (N=90) from a public university in the United States, they randomly assigned the students into one of three groups: individual art project, group art project, or non-art project control group. In the individual art project, two paper towels, a cup of water, a paintbrush, a marker, a pallet of watercolors and a pre-labeled sheet of watercolor paper was made available for the participants. Verbal instructions were read in which the participants were told they were participating in a guided art project. Although this was a guided project, participants were given the freedom to interpret instructions freely. The participants were asked to draw a variety of 12 line types. The following step asked participants to add color to their design with no limitations; however, they had 15 minutes to complete this portion of the project. To keep track, a photograph was taken of the painting and labeled with the corresponding ID number. The same applied to the group art project, except, students had to work together. In the control group, the non-painting group had a choice of Sudoku and word puzzles to complete during the 20-minutes session. After each group finished, they were escorted to a separate room to complete the SSAI for the second time. Researchers used the state version of the...

Post It

...Conclusion 1. Market Analysis The repositionable notes market is made up of paper or tabs with adhesive, which allows the product to be stuck on surfaces and moved, without leaving residue. They are also known as ‘sticky notes’ and the idea was first conceived by 3M innovators. Post-it, the original inventor of ‘sticky notes’ have seen other competitors entering the market, yet having little success in toppling Post-it as the market leader. This is especially so in Singapore, where most of the brands shy away from competing head-on with Post-it, by differentiating their products. 1.1 Market Environment 1.1.1 Technology The ease of accessing wireless networks via Wireless@SG, since its introduction in 2006, has led to a surge in consumers switching to 3G phones. The implications of this on the repositionable notes market is that gadgets like phones are increasingly being used as a substitute in place of sticky notes, in reminding people of certain events or things. Instead of physically placing a post-it on the desk, people choose to set reminders on their phones, with alarms. People also choose to send short messages via their handphones, instead of writing notes on sticky notes and placing them on a colleague’s desk, for example. 1.1.2 Social Trend Research has shown that Singaporean’s are consuming even more paper than before, despite the recent bids of environmentalists to cut down paper usage across the nation....

A01 Health and Social Care as

...In this unit I will show an in-depth understanding of health and wellbeing. I will then produce a comprehensive description that shows an in depth understanding of two different factors that affect health and wellbeing. I will also compare and show the differences between the medical and social models of health and wellbeing and why individuals often fail to comply with health education advice. I will then draw conclusions about each model of health and wellbeing. I will then aim to give a description of two ways of which individual’s quality of life is affected by ill health. Section A Good health is to do with physical, intellectual, emotional and social aspects in life. These aspects affect us daily. Eating healthy and exercising regularly is important as this could potentially prevent illness and disease. Good health may also be affected by society and how the media influences us. This may be related to teenagers and how they often look up to celebrities who could potentially affect their health and wellbeing. Environmental and economic factors have a big influence daily. One example of this is where we live and if there is crime. If there is, this may have a big impact on our physical health as well as emotional. People may be affected by economic factors specifically if they haven’t got much money, this could potentially mean they cannot afford treatment which in turn makes their physical and emotional health worse. There are three ways to describe health and wellbeing...

Globalization

...Globalisation describes an ongoing process by which regional economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through a globe-spanning network of communication and exchange. The term is sometimes used to refer specifically to economic globalization: the integration of national economies into the international economy through trade, foreign direct investment, capital flows, migration, and the spread of technology. However, globalization is usually recognized as being driven by a combination of economic, technological, sociocultural, political, and biological factors. The term can also refer to the transnational circulation of ideas, languages, or popular culture. Definitions An early description of globalization was penned by the American entrepreneur-turned-minister Charles Taze Russell who coined the term 'corporate giants' in 1897. However, it was not until the 1960s that the term began to be widely used by economists and other social scientists. It had achieved widespread use in the mainstream press by the later half of the 1980s. Since its inception, the concept of globalization has inspired numerous competing definitions and interpretations. The United Nations ESCWA has written that globalization "is a widely-used term that can be defined in a number of different ways. When used in an economic context, it refers to the reduction and removal of barriers between national borders in order to facilitate the flow of goods, capital, services and labour... although considerable...

...THE PLAYER Good game design is player-centric. That means that above all else, the player and her desires are truly considered. Rather than demanding that she do something via the rules, the gameplay itself should inherently motivate the player in the direction the designer wants her to go. Telling players they must travel around the board or advance to the next level is one thing. If they don’t have a reason and a desire to do it, then it becomes torture. In creating a game, designers take a step back and think from the player’s viewpoint: What’s this game about? How do I play? How do I win? Why do I want to play? What things do I need to do? MEANINGFUL DECISIONS Distilled down to its essence, game design is about creating opportunities for players to make meaningful decisions that affect the outcome of the game. Consider a game like a boxing match. So many decisions lead up to the ultimate victory. How long will I train? Will I block or will I swing? What is my opponent going to do? Where is his weakness? Jab left or right? Even those few, brief questions don’t come close to the myriad decisions a fighter must make as he progresses through a match. Games invite players into similar mental spaces. Games like Tetris and Chess keep our minds busy by forcing us to consider which one of several possible moves we want to take next. In taking these paths, we know that we may be prolonging or completely screwing up our entire game. The Sims games and those in...
