This academic essay will be on two chosen theorists Fredrick Frobel and Maria Montessori.
The philosophy of the chosen theorists-
Fredrick Frobel-
He was born in Oberwach Thuringa in Germany on April 21st 1782 , His mother passed away when he was a baby and he was abandoned by his father he was taken care of by his uncle. His Christian faith willed him to become an educator.

From 1800 to 1802 He went to the university of Jena but became in debt due to the substantial university payments and was put into prision.

Her father didn’t like the thought of his daughter breaking the traditional norms of the era as it was an era where women weren’t educated.
Despite his fears, Maria went to medical school and became the first Italian women to graduate from medical school in 1896
In 1907 she opened her first ‘Casa dei Bambini’ (children’s house) in the Roman slums. The children became voracious learners who really enjoyed to work and study.
She determined that children need furniture e.g. child sized chairs and tables and tools that are their own size to be comfortable. She created many of her own matierials. i.e. children’s scissors
She believed environment isn’t only your surroundings and matierials but also the people you share your days with.

They are both strong believers in self directed learning for their self confidence and growth and development
They both believed in children working better using their senses and working practically with their hands and by being emersed in the environment they are learning about i.e if they are learning about plants to go out in a safe environment to find the plants and not just get shown pictures of them.
They both believed that from birth to the age of six is the most influencial period of learning in a childs life as brain development is most dramatic between birth and age three
They both believed that the educator should remain a silent presence in the classroom and that they should be an observer of the children to make sure they are selecting work that is appropriate for their age to satisfy their learning.
