After reading the 2011 article, “Media Stereotypes, LGBT Youth and a Documentary Worth Watching” by Peter DeWitt former writer for Finding Common Ground, it pointed out information that is still relevant today. The article focuses on how negative representation in media can affect the way people see the LGBTQ+ community. For example, multiple movies came out in 2015 that had LGBTQ+ representation in them, but most of those movies used the representation for laughs. DeWitt even says that these laughs may last for a few minutes but their negative effects can last for many years.
