Athletes were either charged, temporary and or permanent banning of their sport, stripped of medals and were required to pay heavy sanctions. The world of sports has yet to be the same again. Conte gave an interview with ABC News surrounding the BALCO Scandal. ABC news anchor Martin Bashir says, “There are some people who do believe that this is a problem that will never resolve because people in American sports and sports worldwide, want to win. And if you want to win, want an edge, they will do anything (ABC News, 2008).” Another scandal surrounds the sport of professional cycling. Lance Armstrong was a seven time winner of the Tour de France and dominated the cycling sport. In 2004, allegations arose in regards to doping which he denied for years. In 2012, the USADA investigated and filed charges against Armstrong. A 202 page report providing the details surrounding Armstrong and other cyclists, using abused substances was released (CNN, 2014). Armstrong was later stripped of his seven metals by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), stepped down as spokesman for Livestrong and lost all his endorsements (CNN, 2014).
