...The Influence of the School Media Specialist’s Role on Students’ Attitudes and Performance in the Research Process Abstract Many high school students at all achievement levels fail in the research process due to the frustration and anxiety that arise from their inability to efficiently locate and manipulate resources. This frustration causes them to perform poorly and in some cases to abandon the process. At the same time, the media specialist’s training and expertise are under-used by both teachers and students. All classes of male and female 11th grade students of all ability levels will be subjected to two different styles of bibliographic instruction prior to beginning their research papers. At the time the assignment is given they will be given a questionnaire that measures their attitudes at various stages of the process. A correlation between attitudes and grades is hypothesized. The conclusion drawn from such a correlation is that an active bibliographic instruction role reduces students’ frustration and anxiety in the research process and thus, positively influences grades. Introduction To address the problem of failure in the high school research paper process, the method of bibliographic instruction is one of several factors that can reasonably be examined. If BI is, indeed, a relevant factor, it may then be postulated to extend its influence to other areas that may have a contributory...

...chronologically. Many theological topics will present themselves along the way as we see the growth of the early Christian church as recorded under inspiration by Luke. We will conduct the course in a seminar format, with many topics assigned for pre-reading and research, with learning shared with the class on a daily basis. There will also be a major topic assigned (“term paper”) for research and presentation to the class. Classroom Expectations 1. Speak and listen with a generous spirit. 2. Bring a physical, printed, Bible or have a Bible app loaded and ready on your chromebook.. Load up the “Daily Questions” from your “classroom folder”. 3. Be prepared to share your insight each day into the topic shared in “The Look Ahead” section in the previous day’s “Daily Questions”. Classroom Procedures 1. Nearly every day, there will be some question that required “presearch” for the section of Acts being considered that day. 2. Nearly every day, the “Daily Questions” form should be considered, and completed with answers from yourself and the class reflected there. 3. Most often, we will study a section of Acts, with students seeking answers to questions presented by the teacher, and with students seeking life-related applications of the answers found. Grading This course is in development and in “rough form” as far as grading procedures are concerned. Therefore, some grading expectations will change along the way as we/I flesh out the...

...Overview of Organization The organization that I am proposing for the basis of my research paper is Brownstone Day School. Brownstone is a for profit organization that has been in business and family owned in Lakewood, Ohio since 1989. We are a full time daycare center that accepts age range of infant, toddler, preschool and school age. Brownstone participates in two different programs that include the subsidized child care program which is sponsored through Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and Child & Adult Food Care Program. When the director changed in 2010 after replacing the original director of 20 years management took a different turn. Employees that remained on with new director organization and morale decreased. Brownstone no longer felt like a “family” run business even though it was the 2nd generation of the Rafferty family that had taken over. With the change of directors many teachers began to resign and the turn over rate of new teachers reached record numbers. Brownstone is always looking for teachers with any form of a degree to be in compliance with the state. They don't offer a benefits package, 401k plan, sick time and aren't willing to offer a negotiable salary. Brownstone was a top daycare in it's prime but currently struggles to keep in stride with newer and more up to date facilities. I am an infant/toddler teacher and administrative assistant. I started at Tots R Us in October of 2010. I joined Tots R Usat the same time the new director...

...An Essay: An evaluation of how workplace practice is influenced and directed by a specific social policy. Social policy is “the theoretical pursuit of norms about how we think society ‘ought’ to behave” (Alcock et al. 2008) in action it consists of plans and interventions put in place by the government and social services to improve the wellbeing of society. There are five main areas influenced by social policies derived to improve services for the classic welfare state namely, education, housing, social security, health and social work. Social policy is intimately concerned with how to address and ameliorate social problems and with the analysis of the success or failure of policies designed to improve welfare and wellbeing (Alcock et all. 2008:2-3) Historically social policy can be seen as far back as 1388 when “attempts were made to fix wages and to limit the mobility of labour which may cause wages to rise” (Alcock, 2008:9) a more methodical system of poor relief was introduced in Victorian times, the Elizabethan Poor Law Acts of 1598 and 1601 to house and provide work for the poor under the direction of local parishes. Following this the Poor Law Amendment Act 1834 set the foundations for social policy and the modern welfare state today by changing the way that poor law was dealt with, it was streamlined into universal laws and principles that towards the end of the 18th century prompted formation of the English government. The...

...Career Research Paper I have designed this assignment as a step by step guide to walk my students through the research process. Of course, you may adjust it as you feel is necessary according to the level of students you are working with. This project explains in detail everything they need to research, as well as, giving them real world insight into what to expect in a career in terms of education, job duties and responsibilities and income. I begin by having them take a reality check quiz on the Jump Start Coalition website. This little quiz helps them determine how much money they will need to earn in order to live the lifestyle they would like to have. This income amount in turn helps open their eyes to the type of job necessary to achieve that income and what amount of education is involved. It was a real wake up call for many of my students. In this package I have also included a grading rubric for the project and a list of possible career choices for their assignment. ...Willowbrook School Mission Statement Providing quality, individualized education and care to the children of our community during their formative years. Willowbrook School Information Systems Business Case Executive Summary In response to the rapidly increasing workload generated by both the addition of the Grade 4-6 program and an unexpected jump in application requests, the Board of Directors has authorized a project to research and develop an information system capable of supporting the school’s expansion. Of immediate concern is the substantial increase in administrative and accounting activity, which is currently being administered by one full time employee with assistance from faculty as their schedules permit. The proposed system will increase productivity and allow the current organizational structure to efficiently accomplish daily operations and activities until the school is in a position to increase the administrative staff and fund the remaining system requirements. The new system will automate current processes by eliminating the paper and manual processes, which are both inefficient and time-consuming. Furthermore, the proposed database will allow staff to quickly retrieve compiled data in order to make informed decisions regarding enrollment, bookkeeping, scheduling and student status. Recommendation Initially, the new system must track and process scheduling, after care hours and attendance, tuition payments and invoicing. As the program expands and funding...

...Analysis 3.1 Dan Brown ITT-Technical Institute Problem Solving Theory-GS1140 Mr. Wood April 23rd, 2015 i. Making a telephone call in the year 2020. In the year 2020 making a telephone call will be very similar as it is today. But I believe that there will be some major advancements in the technology involved with phone calls. Some of those advancements I can foresee is totally hands-free calling by using the dwellings Wi-Fi and entertainment devices to accept the incoming call and be able to broadcast it over speakers in the entertainment systems of the home. There would be small microphones located in each room so that no headset would need to be worn to take the call. Also there would have to be a way to screen the calls and the phone system would actually vocalize who is calling. Kind of like caller id but a lot better in the fact that there would be no looking at a small screen telling you who called. Also making a call will be simpler as well since the microphones would let you dial via voice command. And with the phone system interlinked with the home entertainment system and computer systems it would have the customers contact list available at just the command of the user’s voice. ii. Eating a meal with your family in the year 2050. Eating a family meal in the year 2050 will be very different than it is 2015. I truly believe that there will be advancements in the technology around how we eat and how the food is prepared. Eating the meal will...

...DEVELOPING AN INCLUSIVE CURRICULUM: “EVERY TEACHER MATTERS” Keith A. Humphreys Centre for Advancement in Special Education University of Hong Kong The development of inclusive education practices have led to worldwide discussion of how best to deliver a more equal education opportunity for all. In Hong Kong this has led to the development of the concept of an inclusive curriculum for special schools. This paper looks at the implications of writing an inclusive curriculum that has common curriculum content for all pupils that is based on the State curriculum. Over a four year period, nine special schools for pupils of different designated disability collectively pooled their resources to work for one common curriculum goal. In doing so they discovered that the biggest challenge was to the teacher’s hearts and minds. Over 130 teachers were involved in the project. It required a significant paradigm shift in the way the teachers thought both about what they taught and how they taught. It required a common team effort within and across each school. It was apparent that providing equal opportunity to raise standards of education for the all the pupils required the recognition that every teacher had to change their way of thinking, every teacher matters. Introduction Four years ago, nine special schools embarked on a development program to work out an inclusive curriculum. When they met the schools were all designated with different disability responsibilities...
