...natives and immigrants and how they use technology to suit their different needs. Digital immigrants are more reluctant to change and are somewhat fixed in their ways. The saying “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” is used to describe digital immigrants. With the world today revolving around social media, managers and executive level managers are blocking them from their company’s network as a means of safe guarding from hacks and such. What they don’t realize is that the digital natives that work for them, need these sites to function. Digital natives thrive on technology. So much so that it is a lifestyle and it is the basis for their way of working and communicating. Natives are literate, connected, social, and in need of instant gratification. (Myers, M. D., & Sundaram, D) Digital natives use technology as a way of communicating between each other by the use of blogs and texting, whereas immigrants use face to face or email to communicate. Digital Books for Digital Natives written by Cynthia Houston, speaks about how the internet has changed the way we as a society read books. Mainly this article talks about children literature and how our children have open access to everything. Those born after the year 1980 are considered Digital Natives and have had the digital world as a part of their daily life. Prior to this all books were found in paper format. Since 1997, these books have started to be republished, but not in paper, in the digital world. When it comes...

...Deviance and the Internet In today’s society we have made plagiarism and the ability to cheat very simple for anyone who is looking for an easy way out. In our culture, we have what are referred to as “cultural norms” which are rules and expectations which guide the behaviors of the members of the society. When there is a violation of these “cultural norms” it is referred to as deviance. There are many forms of deviance within society, some that are easily overlooked and those that are not. Those more serious wherein a person violates society’s formally enacted criminal law have committed a crime at this point. Even criminal deviance takes on many levels of deviance. We have the traffic tickets on the less serious note up to the murder charges on the more serious end of the spectrum. With increased internet access we have opened up opportunities to the children and adults of today who are already susceptible to deviance from the “cultural norms” and have in turn increased our own desires to cheat and plagiarize reports instead of doing the work themselves. I began my research using www.yahoo.com. For my keyword I chose “college term papers”. The results were astounding. I received 18,800,000 website hits, which were both paid and free websites. A few of the top websites are www.ghostpapers.com where you can buy a term paper, book report, thesis for college, high school and graduate school as low as $8.99 per page. There is also www.termpapershortcut.com/...

...CHAPTER ONE THE THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK: CONCEPTS AND PROBLEMATICS OF THE KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY CHAPTER ONE THE THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK: CONCEPTS AND PROBLEMATICS OF THE KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY Introduction This chapter presents a general theoretical framework for the knowledge society, based on four major axes linked by the concerns and issues invoked by the project to create a “knowledge society” as an integral part of a comprehensive programme of Arab renaissance. The first of these axes presents the premises and principles guiding the knowledge society. The second deals with the conceptual structure of the discourses that have attempted to shed light on the changes in modern societies since the information revolution. Here we have constructed an operational definition of the knowledge society in the Arab world, based on the ideas put forward in the Report’s various chapters. The third axis constructs the systems of reference that have guided, and continue to guide, knowledge discourse in the contemporary world and allows us to become acquainted with the dimensions and options underlying earlier reports on the same topic. The fourth axis examines some of the problematic issues posed today by information and knowledge development in contemporary society, believing that reflection on these issues will influence efforts to close knowledge gaps in the Arab world and achieve comprehensive human development. While subsequent chapters of the Report examine the quantitative and qualitative...

...Florida Introduction They say that we are living in information age, this however is a clear scandal that neither definition nor theory, of information both precise and broad enough to qualify such assertion sensible. Niels Ole Fiennemann in the year 2001 came up with Media’s general history. He said that no Society could exist where exchange and production of information is of little significance. Therefore one cannot compare information societies and industrial societies in any steady way. Information societies could be industrial societies and industrial societies could as well mean information societies. The following is a media matrix he suggested. literature cultures: writing(number systems and primary alphabets),secondly print cultures: print + speech + written texts, Second order alphabetical cultures: written texts + speech + analogue electrical media + digital media and speech based oral cultures .This paper seeks to visit the origin of the Information Technology and the developments it has undergone to become what it is today. In history of development of information technology, the paper looks into challenges that were encountered during the advancement stages. Discussion In today’s era, the crucial influence with regard to the concept of information is borrowed from information theory that was developed by Shannon alongside others. In reality there are two metaphors being used and which are contradictory:...

...Cheaters: In an Academic Environment GEN 300/ Skills for Professional Development Cheaters: In an Academic Environment Upholding Academic Honesty is not only ethical, but it is enforced by most institutions of higher learning. If a student should use the ideas of an outside source he or she must properly cite every resource used; fail to do so is plagiarism. Plagiarism is a serious issue and seems to be getting out of hand since the technology boom. The internet has paved the way for cheating students; making writing assignments as easy as clicking a mouse. Some students in today’s world are finding it easier than ever to cheat. With websites that specialize in selling term papers to lazy students; how can teachers ensure that their students deserve the grade? High speed technology has been wonderful for our economy and way of life; however, it has also put academic honesty to the ultimate test. Before Computers Plagiarism is a crime that has been committed continually ever since the written word; the Middle Ages and Renaissance saw the continuous use of others ideas without proper recognition. Romans stealing from the Greeks, and the thousand times over, re-written versions of all the biblical books being inexactly transferred from a millennia of ancient scribes and medieval scripts. During the time of the Renaissance, thoughts and ideas were used quite regularly without due acknowledgement. Authorship did not...

...1020-101 July 4, 2013 Should e-books Take Over? In the current world, it is hard to see people with paper books in their hands. But people with smart phones, PC’s and other technological innovations can be seen in every place. Is it true that nobody is reading paper books in the world anymore? Some people say that e-books are more ecological and useful because there is no need to waste paper. However, others have a different opinion, and think that nothing can replace traditional books. Some people argue that there is no need in paper books anymore, while others people argue that there is need in paper books, and that it is more beneficial than e-books. There are two main words that need to be defined: traditional books and e-books. Today, most of the people are familiar with the term book. On a daily basis humans are using books for information, studying, researching or just for reading during their leisure time. A book is defined by Oxford dictionary as “a written or printed work consisting of pages glued or sewn together on one edge and bound in covers”. It is a literary composition that is published or intended for publication as such a work (Oxford dictionary). Also, the term book can be referred to some literature works. In science a book can be called a magazine, journal or newspaper. However, as society grows everything is starting to improve, for example different technologies and even knowledge about certain things. People are able to educate themselves better because...

...CHAPTER I INTODUCTION Today's society is different to the one that existed not so many years ago. Our society is constantly changing. The most important characteristics of our era may be the transformation, transmission and dominion of information. We live in an information society where the leading role has been given to new technologies, especially those devoted to information. Our society could not be imagined without new technologies and their role both in this society and in human life in general. With advances in technology, student study habits have dramatically changed. It's affected the way classes are taught, students learn theories and the way information is presented. Gone are the days of slaving over books in the library and scribbling down notes on paper. Modern technology has rapidly changed our world. It improves the length and quality of life. Although modern technology brings an enormous number of benefits for mankind, it causes many harmful effects as well. Modern technologies are very powerful because they rely on one of the most powerful genetic biases we do have — the preference for visually presented information. The human brain has a tremendous bias for visually presented information. Television, movies, videos, and most computer programs are very visually oriented and therefore attract and maintain the attention of young children. The problem with this is that many of the modern technologies are very passive. Because of this they do...

...Fundamentals Paper Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper in which you discuss the fundamental principles of environment science. In your paper, answer the following questions: • How do you define environmental science? Environmental science is the study of how humans interact with the environment. Environmental science is the study of the interaction of the living and non-living components of the environment with special emphasis on the impact of humans on these components. Environmental science is a very dynamic area of research and involves many different fields of study. (Hartwick College, 2013) These other study areas include biology, ecology, geology, chemistry, physic, engineering, math, computer science and other sciences that work together to keep the world moving forward. • How does the relationship between science and technology affect environmental problems and solutions in today's society? Science and technology have been and will be ways to study the environment and the issues that are occurring including climate change, pollution and the reduction in natural resources. Over the past thirty years scientist have studied air pollution and how it is affect the environment which has led to new technology to monitor air quality. Also science and technology have developed new engines and manufacturing plants that reduce pollution back into the environment. Automobiles produce lower volumes of carbon dioxide then they did thirty years ago because technology was developed...

...INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND CRIME: AN ANALYSIS 1.Introduction In the era of technology all activities are being conducted with the help of technology in all over the world. Now it is considered that ‘information is power’ and so the widely used term ‘information’ is combined with ‘technology’ that encompasses the term ‘information technology’. Information technology generally means processing and distribution of data using computer hardware and software, telecommunications and digital electronics. So the common medium of information technology is computer, internet, and mostly used cellular phone. This system helps us take the optimum benefit from this ‘Global Ocean of knowledge’ that much our every day needs. The strength of internet in which everybody’s knowledge is open for use by everybody within a global village for better living standards. On the other hand crime is a social and economic phenomenon and is as old as the human society has become a legal concept and has the sanction of the law. So in combination the term of information technology and crime if positive relation then makes a definition that information technological crime is those facts which is made by digital way getting economical and social benefit illegally and legally prohibited by law, on the other hand if opposite relation then make definition is a method if reducing crime by digital way in the digital era. From the view of positive technology stimulates not only a free trade and economic...

...to define what exactly is the technology. In principle the term literally refers to the study of the technique, that is, to all the theoretical or practical knowledge involving the scientific disciplines. According to this definition, something is to be a technology as such, you must have a use in a particular field. At the time that no longer used, it would be technology. Like that is pretty hard to categorize, we tend to talk about obsolete technologies or obsolete. No need to go to the time of the invention of fire to see technologies that have been replaced by others: that to our grandparents it was technology for our generation can be an anachronism without practical use. There is another concept used today such as new technologies, involving various fields of recent creation as computer science, telecommunications. Anyway in modern society living technology as old as the wheel with newer. The importance of technology is almost always linked to practical applications you may have. In fact, a very expensive or very complicated, technology doesn't succeed, because its implementation is very complicated. That's why sometimes technologies that seem rudimentary trump other much more 'modern'. Either way, technology tends to be in continuous progress, in general being the practical development of new ideas conceived by the scientific disciplines, and is therefore closely linked to the concept of innovation. In the life of modern society, technology is indispensable. In fact, most...
