Television technology The technology that I’ve chosen to write about is the television. (Oxford University, 1997) defines television as a system for transmitting visual images and sound that are reproduced on screens chiefly used for broadcasting programs for entertainment, information, and education. In 1927, the beginning of television, the pictures presented on screen was only shown in black and white. Television eventually evolved into color pictures in the early 1940’s. Over the next eighty years television will undergo numerous advancements from cable TV, high definition, to 3D television with even more advancements made to televisions for the future. This paper will explain three impacts of television, 1. That it competes with other ways of human interaction, 2. Provides information and entertainment. 3. Television could be damaging to one’s personality. The first impact that television has is that it competes with other ways of human interaction such as Friends, Family, and School (Human Communication Research, 1985). It also has an influence with young people in helping them develop values and ideas from events happening around the world. It also has a hand in contributing to viewer’s attitudes and beliefs about themselves as well as socially, ethnically, and cultural backgrounds. Television has a visually interesting and highly interesting style that commands many human’s attention for several hours a day. The second impact television can have is providing information to a mass group of people at once. Mass Media is informational on broadcasting important events. Television can report negative or positive information. There are various amounts of news broadcasting channels on any standard cable or television packages with all network providers. Television broadcast sports, business, politics, and religion and all events globally. Television previews news in a foreshadowing thought of its choice to viewers not always given the chance for people to formulate their own thoughts and opinions based off what news is being viewed on television. The third impact of television is that it can be damaging to one’s personality. There are many topics portrayed on television that can contribute to one’s personality about its own culture or someone else’s culture that can be in false pretenses or misunderstood. The old folk tales goes “Watching too much television can destroy the brain cells.” Recent research has revealed a child which indulges in many hours of television has lower I.Q. levels. (Cerebral Cortex Journal, 2014) reveals large amounts of television changes the structures of the front-polar region of a human’s brain region. The front-polar region of the brain is linked to intellectual ability. In conclusion the evolution of advancing television technology will never cease. Every home in America has least two televisions or more; humans will not ever stop watching television. As long as television networks cater to the need of entertaining humans, more technological enhancements will continue to increase. We as humans have a need for information and entertainment since the production of the television. This has been most of society’s major source of media. ...interacting with people. They miss out active learning and replace real needs with active needs. The major disadvantages include stereotypes and promoting violence. The main goal of media is to attract as many viewers as possible. Therefore, they will show things that people are interested in rather than what is right and this is how stereotypes are spread. The mind of the kid is like clay. It forms early impressions on what it sees, and these early impressions determine how they see the world and affect their grown-up behavior. It is proven that people who watch violent programs compared to people who do not tend to be more aggressive, have less self-discipline, and patience. Aggressive behavior has many roots. Also, children who watch television or play video games for long hours are less likely to exercise and more likely to be overweight. Viewing TV can be good if it is done in moderation, and if the program being watched is selected. Some TV shows can educate, inform and inspire. It can be more effective than books or audiotapes in teaching your kid about processes like how a plant grows or how to bake a cake.Through media, kids can explore places, animals, or things that...

4k Tv vs 3d Tv

...Affirmative Agreement: 4K TV will be no more successful than 3D TV. According to Barry Sandrew, who is an internationally recognized visual effect pioneer and digital imaging expert, “To the average consumer looking to purchase a big screen TV, 3D is unavoidable.” Today it is difficult to purchase a big, flat screen TV from a reputable manufacturer that is not 3D ready, even if the soncumerdid not purchase the set specifically for that feature. Despite what you might read in the media says that 3D ‘s popularization was limited by lacking of content, there are plenty of 3D Blue-rays for sale today of all genres. Also, for instance, Comcast HD subscribers with a current set-top box can find dozens of recent 3D releases available for rental, including “Captain American”, ”Hugo”, as well as a few channels that provide 24/7 3D content, including ESPN 3D. Moreover, Netflix is starting to grow its 3D catalog slowly. In fact, a lack of content is no longer an excuse. However, for 4K, the cost of producing 4K content is a huge amount of investment for Networks and advertisers. If 4K TV wants to gain its popularity, the 4K content would need to be available everywhere. The problem remains, however, that it will take a rather larger investment by the networks, as well as advertisers, to be able to distribute and produce 4K content. As previously mentioned, a large portion of networks and advertisers have yet to adapt to HD which was introduced back in 2009. (franis, K.) Cost effectiveness...

...remote, which has a microphone to take in voice commands that are then transmitted wirelessly to a TV set. The TV responds to simple commands like "volume up" or "channel up." Saying "Web browser" opens up the browsing software, and users can also speak directly into the Google search box instead of typing. The remote and TV are linked via a long-range Bluetooth connection, and voice commands are helpful if a user is not in front of the TV. Beyond voice recognition, the TV also has gesture recognition features in which moving a hand in the air allows users to browse around and select features, much like the Nintendo Wii or Microsoft Xbox gaming consoles. But there are signs that Samsung is still adapting to the newfangled voice control technology. The company recently issued a firmware update for its voice-controlled TV sets that changes the power-on command from "Hi TV" to "Hi TV, power on." This change will "avoid any confusion both with the commands themselves as well as the way the TV is interpreting the commands,"...

The World of Mass Media

...were developed. Many sources claimed that the world's earliest dated printed book was known as "Diamond Sutra". It was printed in China in 868 A.D. using woodblock printing technique. However, it has been said that many books were published way before this time. Around 1040 A.D., the world's first known movable type system for printing was invented in China. China made little use of their invention because literacy was not widespread, so there was little demand for mass printing of books. But the printing technology was spread rapidly across Europe. In 1400 A.D., a German goldsmith, Johannes Gutenberg had invented printing press machine with movable type which allowed books to be reproduced in masses. The first book printed with this technique is The Bible. With the printing press technology, books can be printed quickly and with less effort, hence the cost of bookmaking reduced and this made books available for a much bigger audience. The invention of printing technology has a dramatic impact on the Europe civilization. As information and ideas were able to be spread more quickly and accurately, it helped spread literacy in public. Nevertheless, books were not regarded as a mass medium for at least a century. Besides that, printing press also gave rise to the development of newspapers. The newspaper was developed around 1600. Nieuwe Tidingen was one of the...

Television

...I did this to make an account Television is a telecommunication medium that is used for transmitting and receiving moving images and sound. Television can transmit images that are monochrome, in color, or in three dimensions. The word television comes . Television may also refer specifically to a television set, television program, or television transmission. First commercially available in very crude form on an experimental basis in the late 1920s, then popularized in greatly improved form shortly after World War II, the television set has become commonplace in homes, businesses, and institutions, particularly as a vehicle for entertainment, advertising, and news. During the 1950s, television became the primary medium for molding public opinion. The replacement of bulky, high-voltage cathode ray tube screen displays with compact, energy-efficient, flat-panel alternatives such as LCDs, plasma displays, and OLED displays was a major hardware revolution that began penetrating the consumer computer monitor market in the late 1990s and soon spread to TV sets. In 2013, 87% of televisions sold had color LCD screens. The most common usage of television is for broadcast television, which is modeled on the radio broadcasting systems developed in the 1920s. Broadcast television uses high-powered radio-frequency transmitters to broadcast the television signal to individual television receivers. The broadcast television system is typically disseminated via radio transmissions on designated...

Technological Determinism

...Adorno, Williams and Dienst have multiple views on the effect, development, and influence that Television has upon our society. Its original purpose and vision has been altered towards us, as society has and is still forever developing. Television did just not begin; it was and still is a process of evolution (Dienst, 3-12 A). To many, television is just a form of entertainment, to the normal eye that is. Dienst describes television as more than that, he shows us that numerous factors are responsible for what television and communication really was, is and still may become. Using Economic, Social factors and course material, this essay will prove why these factors are important towards the development of what is now television. If we compare and contrast the definitions of what television was upon its creation compared to what television is now, we will have two completely different answers. Television in the early stages was simply the transferring and receiving of moving images through telecommunications (Dienst, 3-12 A), now television has evolved in a multiplatform medium. The word “evolve” is being used heavily, for the reason that television equipped with technology is forever changing. In (Dienst, 3-12 A) Williams says TV is hard to describe because “ it never is, its always becoming”. Which has lead to its growth in our society at such a rapid pace. Television is responsible for numerous factors in the world, if not one of thee most important. Moving images...

The promotion of IPTV is affected not only by the technology and market demand, but also by the regulatory policy. Policy barriers caused by yield game between telecom operators and State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) about profit allocation hindered the development of IPTV. We use the Stackelberg model to analyze the yield game between telecom operators and SARFT. With deep integration between the industry, the traditional regulatory framework should also advance with the times, be replaced by a more flexible integration framework, so as to promote the development of IPTV and other integration of services. However, the pace of development is far below expectations in China. Many experts pointed out that there were few technical problems existing in IPTV, which leaves the main crux to its institutional settings. From the found of fire in to the use of solar radiation, from the use of traditional horse-drawn carriage in to the spacecraft propulsion, from the found of simple model of aircraft in to jet. Discuss the Marshall Mcluhan’s Proposition of ‘Extensions’ and ‘Amputations’ in Relation to a New Technological Development in Television.

...Television has extended its own self to be familiar with many technologies, spreading its technological alliances to become even more part of our lives. When the shift in technology from analogue to digital became apparent, a decoder was made for the masses to receive television that previously had to be paid for in subscription. The digital box extends the amount of channels sent on one signal, increasing the media coverage and which in turn “creates extensions of the human body and senses” according to McLuhan, every extension has an amputation. The digital box is an over extension of the television, it has become part of television to extent senses and body for the masses. This has established a wider connection, forming a larger global tribe and opening up more space for information from the media to the senses. The demand for constant supply of content has distorted our global view, everything must be simultaneous and we must be involved in everything. Everything we must be involved in is shown on digital television. The chances to connect with more people than before is immense, their visions and their ideas are now at the forefront of our technology. In theory this should extent the broadcasting systems to reach more people and more people, creating a clearer view of the world. As McLuhan has put it “the electronic age’ has sealed ‘the entire human family into a single global tribe.” This should reach out as a united front connecting every singular person through the...

Technology and Management Functions

...Technology and Management Functions When describing how technology and management function within my personal work environment. I had to review the past and present management alongside the mass media and how it would pertain to this paper; Giant RV has neglected to update their technology to increase their ability to overcome past setbacks. Technology, mass media, and outstanding management have never been a large importance in the recreational vehicle industry. This industry has been behind in technology for many years, it has become increasingly harder to improve standards to public when management will not spend the extra cost to explore new avenues. It would be to the companies benefit to explore the Internet, radio, newspapers, television, and to other industries to increase knowledge on how other companies venture out to expand their profit through mass media. If management within the recreational vehicle industry would implement new standards to improve how the recreational vehicle industry does business this might increase revenue throughout the United States and within Giant RV. By doing this it could change many of the standards already in place throughout the United States and how other recreational vehicle dealerships do business. Mass Media With many ways to explore how management can overcome this setback they could look at how the mass media has implemented suggestions within the population so that many will follow the media’s recommendation on trends...

...Neil Postmen’s book “Amusing Ourselves to death” opens in the forward by comparing George Orwell's dystopian society to Aldous Huxley’s. Both end with people en-slaved to technology but in oppose to Orwell’s view, where big brother controls the public, Huxley believes the public will willingly choose to follow the media and be controlled by there own lack of choices. Postman believes that culture will be based on how media is conducted rather then perceived. Today the news is broadcasted in small chunks, and the unrelated topics are all thrown around and tied together to change the magnitude of a news story. Our culture now functions best when focused on tiny bits of unrelated material training us to have smaller attention spans and to not...
